That DA2 was rushed, half-assed and mediocre isn't hard to grasp. Is it enjoyable? Sure, but that doesn't make the blatant flaws go away.

 

I won't argue that it wasn't rushed, but every piece of work has flaws, and the amount that DA2 have doesn't seem to warrant this almost memetical hatred that people seem to have for it. It's even more noticeable when you consider Origins has far more flaws in it than DA2 did, yet seems to escape with a godlike reputation of written genius whose equally glaring flaws should all be overlooked.

 

With the deadlines they were given, I think BioWare did a good job, and released a fairly decent game. What about it in particular grated on you, or made you think that it's worthy of being deemed "bad"?

Okay then. Let's do this ****. I'll provide a link to a funny review of the game, so each one can provide some entertainment value.

My subjective opinion as to what was wrong with DA2:
- plot was ridiculous & had little in common with Origins
- dialogue wheel was unecessary
- combat was a characture of itself
- character designs sucked (darkspawn?)
- the "awesome button"
- forced to play as a lame human
- lore was mangled
- too many narrative gaps
- Anders
- DLC underwhelmed
- cringeworthy dialogue
- environments became repetitive way too quickly
- AI had down syndrome

That is the PRIMARY problem with everyone who doesnt like DA2 they wanted another DAO.  It wasn't and never was supposed to be. Until people get that into their thick, hard heads they will never be able to rationally discuss DA2. Its like the kid who gets the wrong toy at Xmas no matter how good it is, she/he is incapable of seeing it for what it is and enjoying it. Kills me every time.

Even if you look at it from the perspective of it not being a sequel to Origins, the game is still a pile of dogshit.

 

No its a great game. I loved it as much as DAO. But I can look at it from a rational POV unlike many.

I can understand that thinking to a certain extent, but I can also understand where people are coming from that are upset with how DA2 ended up. Of course people didn't want DAO again, the point of a sequel is to expand upon what the original already had. To improve what needed improving, and at the same time retain what made the original so fun and special in the first place. DA2 made a lot of changes, and most of them were pretty huge. And to some, DA2 just didn't feel like it kept what made DAO so special in the first place. Don't get me wrong, I think DA2 was a good game, certainly better then what a lot of people say. But I can understand when people say the were let down.

 

And even if you look at it not as a sequel, but as a stand alone game, it certainly had a lot of problems. All the glitches, reused areas(I know DAO had them too, but DA2 didn't even try to hide it) and I could go on and on.

 

So while I wouldn't really list it as a "Worst Game Ever" personally, I could understand how someone might.

I can rationally and calmly state that Dragon Age 2 was slightly/moderately worse from character/story standpoint, and massively worse from a game standpoint than Origins. It was the spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate turned generic fantasy with press the action button to win. 

 

So, sure, it was fun in parts, very... small parts. It's better than many games, and that can mean a lot of the negativity seems out of place, but it doesn't change the fact that it kind of just isn't very fun for a lot of people. 

 

For Bioware though, which gave the world things like Baldur's Gate, KOTOR, Mass Effect, etc, it was very jarring. So when people say Dragon Age 2 for worst game ever, I think they're kind of just making a point of how problematic and unfun it was, I doubt most mean it's actually the worst game ever.

A game not being like its predecessor is a valid complaint. Sequels tend to build on the concepts of the previous title and expand on gameplay elements and themes that work, it is generally expected that when a sequel comes out that it won't be a 180 of what the title before it was. If DA2 was made in the vein of something like Halo Wars where it was very obvious it was an off-shoot game I could see where you were coming from, but DA2 was touted as a sequel to DA: Origins, and as such there are expectations of what that means.

 

Sure, there are people who can't see beyond what DA2 does right because they're too hung up on what it's not, but not liking it because it wasn't like DA: O doesn't inherently make you incapable of pointing out the game's flaws/successes fairly. Even the ones who are a bit hung up aren't wrong in their complaints. If you were expecting feature A and B to be in the sequel and then got X and Y which are features you like less, it's perfectly rational to consider it flawed by design.

I wanted a good game, and barring that, a good story. Failed at both.

 

And really, if you call it Dragon Age II, then don´t complain if people get annoyed it doesn´t feel like the previous game at all.
