Some of you seem to confuse 'worst' with 'not perfect'. Civ IV, Rome: Total War, DA2, ME3.. come on. Those aren't horrible game, by no means. That they didn't live up to your expectations does not make them the 'worst' games ever.

Check out things like Silver Surfer for the NES.. or any game covered by angry video game nerd for that matter. A lot of garbage came out in those days, some games nearly unplayable (again, check out Silver Surfer)

As for my own list: I don't even know where to begin, and I forgot most their names anyway. I've been gaming for 24 years and back in the early days there was so much garbage coming out that you threw away after 5 minutes and never touched again, it's impossible to remember most of them, and some I've wilfully and purposely blocked from memory :P

forced to play as a lame human

little in common with Origins

That is the PRIMARY problem with everyone who doesnt like DA2 they wanted another DAO.  It wasn't and never was supposed to be. Until people get that into their thick, hard heads they will never be able to rationally discuss DA2. Its like the kid who gets the wrong toy at Xmas no matter how good it is, she/he is incapable of seeing it for what it is and enjoying it. Kills me every time.

" Stop misliking games I like, AARGHH!!"

I have absolutely no clue wtf  DA2 was ' supposed to be'. Guess I just can't get it in my "thick, hard head."  D:

DA:O was a huge success. Critics and fans of Bioware RPGs generally speaking loved it very well. Perhaps even more importantly, it left great deal of people with a very good aftertaste; DA:O did quite well when it was time to select "Game of the year" & RPG of the year rewards.

With this backdrop in mind, I'm very happy to be able to tell you that great deal of people actually&highly 'rationally'  very much expected&hoped that   - >Sequel for DA:O < - would be another DA:O game, yeah. What they got was a monstrosity where graphic style had been replaced with some void-of-all-taste vomit and combat with some tribute to every average action RPG ever released on  PS2.  Disappointing games are always much worse than bad games. If we get all  boring, rational and objective, DA2 can not be called a downright bad game. However, it is utterly undeniable that great deal of people who usually enjoy BW games consider it a very disappointing game.  Even after all these years, it still lives in an infamy. It remains an ugly stain on shield that, up until release of DA2, was highly pristine. (At least if we mercifully forget a pile of lackluster DLC.)

Amount of  "Most disappointing game of the year" nominations for DA2 must be roughly equal to amount of them GOTY medals pinned on DA:O's chest.

Rather, I think  it is about people  finding different ways to define WORST. Bad games aren't worst games; most disappointing ones are. Genuinely bad game from a genuinely bad dev in situation where absolutely nobody expects to see a good game bothers absolutely nobody. Disappointing games are another matter.

It was the gameplay mostly, didn't find the story anything spectacular, but it wasn't bad either. Simply hated the gameplay and think it is far too overhyped, though that applies for anything CD does these days.

There is no such thing as overhyping a CDPR game. It's impossible. Their games deserve all the hype they get. That doesn't mean their games are without flaws mind you, no game is, but they are so f*cking good that they really do deserve all the praise they get.

If anything I'd say CDPR is UNDERhyped. The Witcher 2 sold well, not not nearly as well as other RPG games that are vastly inferior in quality and there are still a lot of gamers who have never heard of The Witcher or never played it.

Eh, until they can claim to have made more than one good game, I think they deserve at least some skepticism. I've never played The Witcher 2 myself, but I know from experience that The Witcher 1 wasn't very good. Mojang has made one good game too, but I wouldn't say that I have great expectations for what they have coming next.

It's not just about the amount of copies sold, but the development costs as well. It's the reason why publishers might get disappointed even when a certain title sells well over 5 million copies. I know that The Witcher 2 only had a budget of $12 million or so, and The Witcher 3 is around the $30 million range or so.

Regardless, TW2 has been successful enough that CDP managed to double the size of their team for TW3 and open up another studio in Kraków.

There's only one game I found so bad I couldn't finish it, and heck I even threw the disk away - Hellgate: London. It has way more repetitive environments than Dragon Age 2 to the point where hell levels look exactly the same with exact same enemies, and the more you play it the more suspicious you get that half (if not more) of the game's budget went into the intro scene.

There were some pretty awful 8 bit games although I don't remember the names of most of them, just things that required split second pixel-perfect timing (good job the pixels were so huge) and one on the BBC B that ran so stupidly fast that there was no time to react to anything.

For a game to be worth mentioning as bad, it has to have some good qualities, even if they come in the form of corrupted reviews. I can think of too many absolutely horrible games that can't even be played because the control scheme is terrible. But what's the point of mentioning them?

The reason I said Rome 2 is a horrible game because despite of being the continuation of a series that had high points, it fails at every possible level and the only thing it has going for it is the size of the map.

I can talk for hours and hours about how shitty this game is and how there is no consideration for the player rather than just seducing reviewers by false advertising, but luckily I don't have to. This amazing guy did a 2 hour video on how bad this game sucks and he is spot on.

Oh come on, The Witcher 1 was great. The game mechanics that the game had might not be the best mechanics ever and there is something to say about the facial animations or the voice acting, but all doesn't matter if you look at the rest of the game. The writing? One of the best I've ever seen in a game. The environment? Absolutely gorgeous (it really has that legit European medieval feel that most other fantasy RPGs don't have). The choices and consequences? Really well done, better than many other modern RPGs that came out after The Witcher 1.

The Witcher 1 has its flaws, but not enough to call it a bad game in my opinion.

As for not having great expectations for what they have coming next: are you living under a rock? Have you not seen all the amazing and gorgeous gameplay footage of The Witcher 3? If you did see those demos then how in the hell can you not have great expectations for it?

Never played the first, but Two Worlds II felt like a poor man's witcher. Had a few neat quests, but I'd highly suggest other games instead. One of the bosses was impossibly difficult to the point that I had to enable cheats just to finish the game.

Maybe not the worst, but it was a dissapointment.

I actually liked Two Worlds II, but I 100% wont say it isn't a bad game, I just like it in spite of its flaws.  That voice acting from the main protagonists was just so very very flat. And that Savannah horse race mission? Believe me I get the hate that game gets. haha. But all in all I like a lot about it too. Those markets to this day are the best I've seen in any game. Felt like a real old time market with venders trying to outdo each other and get random people to shop. The magic system wasn't explained well in game but after looking it up online it was really a lot of fun.

As for worst game I ever played hands down Settlers 7. From what I was able to play of it.  It had an always online DRM and servers that bumped you off your game at least once every 40 minutes with no chance to save before kicking you out of the entire game. It just closed everything on you. People might think DRM isnt part of the game so it's unfair to say it is a bad game but I feel when you and everyone else on the forums are unable to play the game sold to them, it makes it a 'worst game ever' list.

DA2 gets a lot of dev and fan defenders that say people didn't get the story or that it wasn't what they were expecting, thus they didn't like this clearly great game. Yeah... people can understand a game and still not like it. People can like things they weren't expecting too. People just have different opinions about it. It's like everyone that said the Witcher series is bad, I feel different from them but no amount of me telling them how great it is will get people to like what I do. And no amount of people telling me "DA2 was actually great, you are just wrong" will get me to think it is a great game.
