Trick question.
This is Bioware bro, of course males are gonna be under represented. It's like their new motto.

Most likely it will balance out after the free DLC that will come with the MP. I'm more interested if we can play Grey Wardens and fight darkspawn.
I don't understand the mentality of "I refuse to play certain gendered characters". I mean that's your business but to me it's a bit silly. Like, do you feel like you can't relate or be interested in a character unless it shares your gender?
My argument would be that players want to represent themselves in a way they see favorable to their tastes. It's a matter of preference or choice. If we had a choice, we would pick the character that best represents us. Just like how single player has a character customization, because players now want to have more control of what their character looks like and why it's a big thing for RPGs like Dragon Age, SWTOR, Mass Effect, and Phantasy Star (just naming some examples). Personally, although I would prefer playing male, out of the fact that I am a male gamer, I wouldn't be disappointed in playing as a female as long as their skills meet my expectations of their class professions. In the end, it's just player preference and taste. Much like some would like to customize how their armor looks (like in the Mass Effect series).

That's really the fundamental psychological difference I guess. Some people play character action games and want to project themselves as the character and so there's this desire to "make my player character as much like me as possible." However, there's also people like me though who don't view the player character as having to be this "as close as the real me as possible" type of representation.
I've been playing video games since the Atari 3600 and so I didn't feel "less immersed" when I was controlling the flying ostrich from joust any more than I did the Mario Bros., Link, Mega Man, Simon Belmont, Samaus Aran, Ryu Hayabusa, Little Mac, that tiny dude from Dig Dug, or any number of video game characters. Rather I enjoyed being able to play through a story with the illusion of control, with an interesting protagonist. So in modern RPG games, I don't "set out to make a copy of myself" as much as I try and make a character that I find interesting. There's a mental sepration there. That's why I enjoy strong female characters in RPG's because you rarely see them as lead roles in game and movie narratives. Bonus points if they're non-white (my FemShep was a black woman).

In the words of the great Mahatma Gandih.
"Why dont you f**k off then."
I admit there is something lost in translation.

It's funny because when I play a game (video game, table top RPG, etc) I always gravitate towards those characters/creatures that are the least human. Whether the character in question is a male or female is secondary to how far from humanity I can get with my choice.
I know it sounds weird, but I would much rather play as a Rachni, or a Mabari vs. playing as a Human or Dwarf. This doesn't mean that I hate humanity IRL or anything like that, I just find the 'mundane' humans, elves, dwarves, etc to be boring compared to the exotic fantasy and sic-fi creatures present in a setting.
I mean I am a human IRL 24/7, why would I want to be a human or a human with pointy ears, or a short human with a beard, when there are sentient trees, rock men, etc. in the same setting?

Nah. ![]()
Why play as a boring human when you are one in real life
I just think it's a bit of a shame that all of the badass human classes are female. I mean come on, Reaver, Necromancer AND Templar?

And that's a bad thing.... how?

The human males are stuck with the weedy archer and hunter. What if I wanted a heavy metal Reaver dude who listens to Anthrax whilst he drinks mage blood?

Just wait for the DLC. Always more characters.

That's what your Inquisitor's for...
Also, the Elementalist is going to be a beast and he's a dude so, there's that.

For real. I LIKE badass women characters. The more the merrier.
I don't know about other people, but I like to play as a human because it's easier to put myself in that position. That's not to say I won't play as the other races (except a dwarf...I don't like dwarves), I just enjoy a human because it's easier to play along.
I really, really, REALLY, dislike dwarves in fantasy. It's the hardest part for me to accept in the Dragon Age universe. Figures that my starter multiplayer class has to be a male dwarven warrior (since I'm going warrior).

I used to be the same way, it was always normal height races for me in any MMO. Then I played Dwarven Noble Warrior in DA:O after my original file corrupted just to screw around. Holy Crap did it feel manly and beefy, I felt like a ball of destruction. The beards only made it better. Their decreased height only enhances their pure muscle, testosterone for days. Even past that, if you get behind who the Legionnaire is as a character it only gets better. The Legionnaire are truly the badasses of Thedas, they dedicate their entire lives to hunting Darkspawn but unlike the pansy Grey Wardens, they hit them on their home turf. They live and die by their armor, and with a hardy defense to magic they are literally ****** walking shields. Human/Elf/Quarian you're using just weapons...Dwarf? You are the weapon.
Honestly im sure that that will be temporery and the classes will be gender nuterall later on.
