happens over and over again no matter what i do. Tried, running safe mode, installing off my external hard drive which supposedly helped someone, Normally when i try running it i get the "instalation finished" box right after i input the serial number. If im running the install from my external hard drive i get the saferun.exe/saferun.dll error when the installer unpacks the music_bank.isb from what i managed to establish.
I got my copy from direct2drive, so i can't really hope for a refund, and it seriously pisses me off that i paid for the freakin thing and can't play it while the warez versions are working flawlessly. Seriously bioware, way to fight piracy.
Oh, i also tried the "unpacking each folder seperately" method, and no, it didn't work. And i am positive my system can run it. And im running windows 7 home edition 64 bit. Can't think of any more relevant info. PLZ HELP!
Installation has been canceled

Win 7 64bit is the problem here. I upgraded from XP 32bit to Win 7 64bit Home ed and can no longer install ME (same error as you) . I'll look around a bit more and if I find something, I'll post it here.

Installation trouble is usually related either to windows security or your antivirus interfering with the installation process.
If you haven't done so already make sure you turn off Win 7 UAC (Control Panel -> User Accounts -> change user account control settings -> move the slider all the way to the bottom). Also disable your antivirus program during the installation. Thirdly make sure you run the installer as administrator by navigating to the disc drive and r-clicking on setup.exe -> run as administrator. Also just in case shut down any programs running in the background that you don't directly need.
Also if none of the above works, there is a way to do a manual installation. It was posted in a sticky on the old forums by a Bioware member, but those forums are now closed. You can however find a copy of the post here: http://www.rpgwatch....read.php?t=4634

I've tried the manual install but I encountered a few problems:
- Some .rar files doesn't seem to be proper archives. Their header starts with "MZ" rather than "Rar!", and I can't extract them.
- When I try to run Mass Effect 2_code.exe it fails to find a "supported language".
Has anyone succeeded with this method?

When installing retail PC disks, my first disk seems to extract/install fine, then the drive door pops open and requests disk 2 with a message on the screen, "insert disk 2, "retry or cancel" I insert disk 2, wait for it to continue, it does not so I try the "retry" and nothing happens. After many attempts, I end up cancelling and re-installing with the same results. Is this part of the PC install issues some folks are having?

sorry for not responding, i solved the issue and i was just too darn busy playing the game to check the forums
what kept bugging me was the fact that the installation would fail on the same file over and over again. I assumed that the download was incomplete... and heck i was right, all it took was downloading the file again. As it is, I still had to install it from a portable hard drive, since normally the installation would end after i typed the serial number. Hope that helps some people,
done with me 1, downloading 2, can't wait already
btw are the requirements for 2 much higher? i know its the same ol' unreal engine but i wanna know if i'll be able to run it with the same details as the first

Well I know have the game installed, I just did it the quick way, and downloaded a copy from EADM. So now I have new problem, I can get as far as the game load screen but then the game just hangs there and is "not responding" in the task window. Any ideas? I'm a PC gamer, but now I'm feeling though I really should have just but a console copy!
