Not if he possessed a tainted individual. Something like Cory might have did.

Not many options for those running around, though.

I've just began reading the book. Page 4 and the main character, an elven woman, is fawning all over Garahel's legend; therefore, I can only conclude that the legend will be absolutely shattered beyond repair by the end of the book.

You'd be surprised.

Also, those two kids in the alienage must have been really stupid since apparently "every elven childs knows of Garahel".

The Anderfels is a long, long way from Ferelden.

Garahel is a world wide hero.

I think this is most likely since this would allow him to give command to all wardens in Orlais with little issues and thus would be a big reason why we do attack a fortress filled with them. Put that with the fact they have lost contact with him and it does not bold well for that warden-commander.

Indeed. I think there was a reason that it was mentioned that Orlesian Wardens had cut off communications.

The Fourth Blight did not touch Ferelden at all, and it was 400 years ago. Orphan's in elven alienages are also not known for their vast historical knowledge. I think it's perfectly reasonable they never really knew about Garahel.

Yeah.  It never really makes no sense why the elves didn't know.  I mean....I can't imagine the elder isn't aware, and he would obviously spread that story around the alienage.

Not....necessarily.

Plus THEY don't know about Garahel, you can tell them about him.

So after you do so, every elven child DOES know of Garahel.

Garahel is an interesting figure as the book doesn't really get into his head but it's clear it's mostly the case of being at the right place at the right time.

He does, however, serve as the "Warden" of Origins in that his big role is making the hard choices.

Not the fact he stabs the Archdemon.

Most wardens would also follow him simply because of loyalty, most wardens like Blackwall are rare(this might be a big reason why Blackwall does join up) and thus the ones that would question their orders or refuse would be pretty dam slim. That's not even taking into account if Cory has done some mind hijinx already.

Hell, Isseya had it worse than him. She was the true hero of that Blight.

Yes and no.

Gaharel is the reason she did what she did.

He's the guy who made the, "Help Branka make Golems" or "Werewolves kill Elves" decision, so to speak.

He would have done it too even knowing the consequences because, well, it worked.

Considering one of Blackwall's concept art was an execution, I'm pretty much certain he joins us due to these problems.  Heck, his recruitment probably is at a place where he's about to be executed for not following orders.

Eh.  At least she didn't have to worry about her soul being destroyed killing the Archdemon.

I disagree. Him basically asking his sister to poison herself and accelerate the Taint in her own body does not make him a hero, in my opinion. Yes, he slew the Archdemon, but without Isseya, he wouldn't have been in position to do a damn thing.

You really can't. The City Elf has no idea who Garahel is until Duncan tell him/her.

Yes, Isseya wouldn't have led

Spoiler

Garahel would have done it, IMHO, even knowing it.

But yes, part of what I liked about both of them is that they don't attempt to shy away from the consequences of being a Grey Warden.

Neither of them run away from the Taint.

They're going to die because of it and are okay with that. Because if you die stopping the Blight, you've done your job.

I think Garahel took the final shot because he wanted to show his sister he wasn't asking her to make any sacrifices he wasn't prepared to make himself.

This shows they're both better Wardens than Fiona. Who the oddest thing about is she didn't RE-TAKE the Joining.

Oh, don't get me wrong. They are both great Wardens, miles above Fiona could ever hope to be. All I was saying is that I consider Isseya the hero (though completely unsung) of the Fourth Blight more so than her brother.

That's just a confusing plot hole really. Are we just to assume she never wanted to be a Warden in the first place?

But yes, the sad thing about Isseya is not only is she forgotten but if her deeds were known, they'd probably HURT the elven cause and prestige.

Kind of like the Warden if Alistair dies killing Urthemiel.
