I would like to point out that anyone who would call the Grey Wardens selfish obviously has no idea what the heck they are talking about. The Grey Wardens are literally so selfless they impress the Maker himself.

Indeed.

Unlike the Jedi Order of Starwars, their special interest status is deserved.

Well, I don't think we're supposed to respect their decision to use Blood Magic. Just understand it.

The sad fact about Maric and Rowan is the fact he was probably never aware she didn't love him.

Everyone is selfish.

A very cynical perspective. If so, the Grey Wardens are among the least-selfish on the planet. They sacrifice everything to safeguard Thedas from the Blight. Their homes, their families, their happiness, their hopes, their dreams, their health, and eventually their lives. All to keep the Darkspawn at bay.

Heh..My Dalish Warden would disagree. I was prepared for being dragged kicking and screaming all the way to Ostagar.

They don't sacrifice their dreams or hopes because they die for them and warden often crush things you mentioned of other beings to fullfill own dreams and goals.

Yeah, well, some men are born great, others have greatness thrust upon them.

Besides, it's not like he had any other options. Better to succumb to the taint in 30 years than 2 weeks.

If they wanted to be anything other than a Grey Warden, that goes down the drain. If they wanted to have a family, that's almost impossible. And whose goals exactly are they crushing? Other than the darkspawn of course. Cause I'm pretty sure the goal of "survive the blight" trumps all others.

And who forced them to being wardens if they didn't wanted to be one no one other than wardens (pretty much 1 thing i was saying)... in fact still after joining you don't have to be grey warden what was in case with few wardens including my warden.Well you said already peoples they forced to their goal and throwing their own and as well beings they sacrificed for their goal that had own goals and well darkspawn as well qualify.

It's necessary. What's your alternative? Not have any Grey Wardens? Good luck taking on Razikale, you're sure going to need it!

I really enjoyed the book. Got the book last night and have read it whenever I got a little bit of free time. It was a really nice little bit of Dragon Age to tide me over until I get into the Dragon Age Keep  *sadest little panda forever* ;)

However there is one thing that got me worried. These people who in the end found the eggs, are they in any way or form ready to care for a large number of newborn animals. It was not an easy journey to get there, and on the way back they would have to care for hatchlings as well. They need food and shelter.

Currently on maternal leave taking care of a small baby, and that is the reason for why this stood out to me, made me feel uncomfortable. My child is a little bit older now but I can still remember that first time when he needed to eat every few hours and all the energy it took. How are these travellers prepared to care for all those little griffons, they were quite a few. My parents once helped a few very small kittens when our cat couldn't take care of them, it sounded like a fulltime job when there are many of them and they are completely new. Hoping that magic will be a good answer or that they brought enough food and such things to get them back safely. I wouldn't want them to lose a single one of them.

What does baby-griffons eat? Since they spent a great deal of time in the library I just hope that she read up on baby-griffons in advance and packed accordingly  :P

Loved the book however and am very excited to see what this means for the future.

You mean the Sith? The Jedi give up emotion to protect the galaxy, I don't see anything selfish about that.

To be honest in truth none action is necessary what is necessary or not is matter of your perception.Ask yourself if human survival is necessary? Not rly but we still try to survive and we will destroy everything or everyone to do because we want to what is in fact selfish.

No.

The Jedi Order, from its corrupted hold on the old republic to its newer incarnation.

The Jedi give up emotion to protect the galaxy, I don't see anything selfish about that.

What about them using republic funds to maintain an opulent lifestyle?

What about them having the right to declare right and wrong regardless of galactic law?

I can go on and on and on and on again.

The Sith are what they are, they make no qualms or excuses about it.

The Jedi hide it.

Bruh, the Sith are the most selfish people in Star Wars, their order is sooo fragmented because Sith only do what's good for them, not what is good for the Empire.. The Jedi are defenders of the galaxy, nuff said.

That's kind of a nihilistic viewpoint. I can't really argue against that. Do you think the Darkspawn are morally the same as everyone else?

1. Opulent? Dude, these guys own a datapad, a commlink, a lightsaber, and like three robes. What more do you want them to give up?

2. Nothing, because they can't. Jedi have never ruled over anything. They have always been subservient to the Galactic Republic, which has in turn endowed them with their authority and power.

3. I assume you've never played KOTOR? The Sith lie to themselves more than anyone. They think the Dark Side is all about freedom and independence and never having to take orders from anyone, when really it's about childish rebellion, petty cruelty, and mindless hatred.

Look, the Jedi can and have been wrong about a lot of things. That's doesn't mean they aren't heroes.
