You know all this new info on magic and blood magic makes me wonder how the Tevinter Imperium or the ancient elven nation for that matter made it past their first year.

It sounds completely contradictory. Previously, the lore on blood magic read, "Nothing inspires as much wild-eyed terror as the Blood Mage. Mages of this type take the raw energy of life and twist it to their own purposes. They can corrupt and control, and sustain their power by consuming the health of others, willing or not. The effects can be vile, but this specialization isn't limited to madmen and monsters. Many see it as the only form of magic that is truly free, because it's tied to the physical, not favors to spirits or demons."
That's the point though, 'many see it as the only form of magic...' A lot of the lore in game, especially the codex entries, are written from a character's perspective and therefore are likely to be just as misinformed as the players themselves. As far as the in-game info goes, it's a case of unreliable narrator being used. Those mages that believe that could have easily been misled. Yes, blood magic can probably be used without a demon, but it doesn't exclude demons from being involved. And we've already seen in-game that they can be involved, such as in Merrill's case.

Ahh, so this book will cause all the blood mages to cry: "Retcon" eh?
I will fill a goblet with their tears and sup heartily!

Either way, it simply proves even moreso that Merrill is completely awesome.

No, truly, this is only good news for blood mages. Either the demonic yammering is merely cosmetic (which seems likely, because if demons really could break the Veil and possess people without special circumstances, Jowan would never have lasted as long as he did) and nothing is changed, or it's an actual problematic factor, in which case the failures of the blood mages who did fail become more explicable, and the ones who didn't fail become even more badass.

So, Corff finished his book about speed griffons! Good for him.
Regarding the demons whispering: remember, there is Blood Magic, the School with its peculiar spells which can be casted only by blood, and blood enhanced magic, which is normal spells fuelled with blood. My theory is that casting normal spell using blood it's the "not connected to the fade" superior magic. Casting Blood School spells is different, as it is stated in the book.
Reader, there is something in the book which disproves my theory?
Also, seeing how dangerous the mages are makes me reconsider how to deal with them. I mean, siding against Meredith was an easy choice to me: she wanted to kill all mages because of the actions of an apostate. That was madness. But if the mages are that dangerous... And in the Borken Circle quest, maybe Cullen is right. How many mages were actually strong enough to resist? I suspect that the decision of helping them in Ferelden is going to backfire.
The circle is a necessity, that's for sure.

They aren't that dangerous. In fact, this makes it clear that they're less dangerous, as demonic whispering is something they clearly get used to early on.

@Xilizhra: Demonic possession is rare? Have you even read the books or played the games Xilizhra?
By all means, headcanon away - but demonic possession is not "rare".
