(A thread to pass the time)

An interesting discussion i saw in another thread was the issue of dwarves and their height which sparked this topic. For me personally (as shallow as it may be), the dwarves height is really the only detail that keeps me from choosing them. Despite my interest in their culture and endurance in keeping the darkspawn at bay, i really cant be one for the simple fact that they're always looked down upon, literally.

Now that we are an authoritative figure and commander of an organization that answers to none, i want a player model that that will impose a sense of authority just by glancing at my Inquisitor, which is exactly why im very excited about the qunari option (along with a lot more).

As for the next issue i have with height, i think this affects males more than females (though there are exceptions of course). As a man it really throws me off to have a female LI look down at me or have to lean over to hug/kiss the character, almost drains my masculinity away.

So any thoughts on this "issue" if thats what you'd call it, or is it not an issue at all and couldnt care less about height?tumblr_inline_n9rcx4Wnxc1s9sxcr.jpg10467899_242300605970352_502527830_a.jpg

Height does affect my race preference. I prefer to play a tall female when given the chance, I relate to it more because i'm tall irl. So I'm pretty excited to play a qunari. I'm looking forward to playing an elf too since their height is not that short this time around.

I am a woman who is 198 cm tall and who is going to enjoy every single second of being able to play as a character who doesn't have to look up to talk to everybody.

I don't really have problems with playing as shorter characters, because that's what usually ends up happening anyway. My favorite Warden is a City Elf, after all. But it will be cathartic to incorporate a little more 'me' into a qunari Inquisitor. It'll be lovely if qunari women get to do some nice intimidating stare-downs.

I am the same but the inabbility to use magic is the final straw. I love the people culture types of liquer(tried to recreate it when i turned 21) but the height is breaking for me since im 5'8 and without magic they from a story perspective would have much relevance aside from DA:O +DA:A imo. #Shamedmonkey

Doesn't bother me. I'm considered a very tall person in reality, but I primarily played a female elf in DA:O, and actually enjoyed the height difference between her and humans. And Sten. Came up to about his  lower sternum. :S

Now, I'll probably be playing a female Qunari, which will be a very opposite situation. It isn't really something I mind either way.

I'm a women and I'm a shorty in a jungle of families (they are all tall , all around 6feet something , save for me ) . so yeah , I'm planning on a Qunari that is TALL .

I don't mind the dwarf size . I kinda find it hilarious having to romance someone taller though then them . But would love a dwarf + dwarf romance (and not cose of heigh)..it just that it was..badly implemented in the previous games .

And it's a grip I have . For I know many females in real life that are tall . Yet in game...we always have to be the shorty one..cose..of who know why .

I can't play dwarves cause the height. Too short. Can't do it.

And I'm tall in RL so being able to play a femqunari has me squeeing. FINALLY I won't be shorter than the majority of my male companions.

Height doesn't bother me at all or affect what race I pick or which LI I choose to pair them with. Personally I find height can make things interesting and unique. Like My female Cadash with IB or BW since there both really tall. Or my Female Adaar with BW, it will be very interesting.

I love being really short or really tall. I love being a dwarf most of all, I love being small. Since in real life I am like 5"9.

As a short person, I personally like picking the short races. But I also can't wait to play as a badass qunari that towers over everyone. I really don't limit myself.

Height isn't an issue with me when I'm playing girls, but I will admit that I don't like playing dwarf males (partly for this reason) and am not overly excited with the idea of being a qunari male either (completely for this reason). I don't know why; I'm super excited to play my female dwarf and qunari, but it is what it is.

I prefer playing a smaller androgynous male, and that's one of the reasons I prefer elves.  I'm still not happy with elves being made taller.  I liked the male elves being shorter than human women.  Morrigan referring to my male elven Wardens as "little man" was always amusing to me.

IRL I'm a small woman, and I don't care to be tall, but I like playing male characters, so there you go.

Why elves and not dwarves?  Aside from the androgyny thing, elves are more interesting to me and I can relate to them more on some levels.  I also like to play mages.

I'm fairly giant (6'1/185) in a family of fellow skinny giants. I actually like playing dwarves because I can twist the stereotypes.

I'm 5'1 and I do think I do have this unconscious preference for playing as an elf first because of their height. Afterwards it's all whatever. I do have a liking for height differences with LIs, however, so it should be fun to romance Iron Bull and Sera with an elf/qunari respectively.

I'm pretty tall for a ladydude, but I have to say dwarves are my favorites to play. The height difference actually makes me quite happy. There's something inherently amusing about tanking on a dwarf gal. Something about being that small and able to take on whatever makes her seem even more of a kicker of butt and taker of names.

That being said, I'm also going to really enjoy playing a qunari -- qunari gal rogue is probably up for round #2 of Inquisition. Being a big gal is also awesome.

Honestly, I'm looking forward to playing all of them. I dunno. I don't think it's a huge deterent for me.

6'1". Doesn't bother me. I just don't do the romances with dwarves. I would reconsider if there were dwarven and elven females available to dwarven males. And that's my two cents.

I'm about 6'2" and love playing as dwarven characters. Sure, they're short, but, more importantly, they just have such an interesting culture and backstory :) And, honestly, the height difference in romances doesn't really bother me.

A great deal now that you ask!  I have never liked playing as a dwarf because they are too short, and I will probably avoid playing as a qunari because they are far too tall.  Humans are the middle ground, and elves are just a bit on the short side, so those races are fine...

Oh, and I'm 5'11''... so that's probably why I don't like extremes one way or the other.

Without accounting for anything else, I prefer playing the shorter/smaller races with males, the taller/bigger races with females.

Yes, i dont see whats so unbelievable about that, i dont mean it offensively if thats how it seems. As a man, most feel obligated to be the "protector" and the "nurturer" of their (for the lack of a better word) "lover", but when you're literally being looked down to, it almost seems belittling and undermines the "protector" position that most men perceive themselves in.

I'm the opposite... I like taller women.  Does that mean I want to be protected?  o_O

I'd say there are definitely some deep-seated social and cultural biases around height... in the real world. It's not uncommon to hear "women want tall men" or "men want tiny women," whether you believe it personally or not. I'm a relatively tall woman, and I can't say height is something that I judge people on.

As for my characters in Dragon Age, I like to play characters of all shapes and sizes. I played a dwarf in Origins, and I don't think his height ever came up in conversation. I'm excited to play a tall, muscular Qunari woman AND a lithe elf woman back-to-back in Inquisition.
