I'm really tall for a guy at an intimidating height of... 168cm (5'6" roughly for anyone who swears by Imperial units).

But I like height differences, and had there been a gay male elven (inspite of how they upped their height now) love-interest instead of Dorian, I would play a Qunari. In fact, that was the combination I was hoping for before they announced any of the characters in Inquisition. Like, I'd have this story in my head of a rough and crazy Qunari warrior for a change who'd have his eyes set on an elven mage... I wasn't expecting it, but I was hoping. So, my height in real life doesn't really affect how I'd like to play in the game.

Then Dorian and Iron Bull happened and I figured, well, I'll play an elven mage. I mean, it means I'll revisit my favourite class. And I've grown so attached to Dorian already. Something as small as height differences in a character relationship I'd like to see aren't that much a thing for me now.

But I did want to play as a Qunari for my head-canon playthrough, but I kind of don't like the idea of forming a romantic relationship with Dorian with one, personally.

But I suppose playing a Qunari is something for the next Dragon Age main sequence installment.

I don't like any of the options I have for LI, probably will wait for someone modded Cullen as a LI before buying it, so it probably won't affect my decision to create a character specifically for that LI. If I decided to care enough to give a flying bird, it's probably gonna be Qunari with Ironbull.

I don't mind playing dwarves, but I find the concept of dwarf/non-dwarf romances...awkward and my dwarf Wardens didn't romance anyone in Origins. Unsure if this was due to height differences or more of a cultural thing (seems like most dwarves strongly prefer other dwarves from what we've seen, while human/elf pairings are more common).

Height affects my canon race preference. I am a 5'5" Asian Indian man, I come from the tropics near the equator, I am sarcastically funny and I like being free.

As such my canon race in RPGs, when I am given the choice, have always been some form of Wood Elf. In Elder Scrolls its Bosmer (though I give the finger to the Green Pact). In Dragon Age its Dalish Elves.

I would also say that class affects my canon race preference as well. I am an academic in real life and the profession that translates the closest to that in a medieval fantasy RPG is a wizard. In sci-fi RPG it would be an engineer (my degree is in engineering as well so there's that too).

Which means my canon race/class is almost always male Wood Elf Wizard.

I'm 190 cm and will start out with a human, but in origins I played a dwarf. Make of that what you want.

I like playing tall characters but that doesn't prevent me to play an elf or a dwarf if I like their story and background. The noble dwarf was awesome in DAO. I still prefer my Cousland, but not because of her height. Dwarves and elves always seem less relevant, I feel much more involved in the main events like the Landsmeet or the assault on Denerim while playing the future queen...

It may seem quite strange to a see a small female elf as a two-handed warrior, but I usually go for rogues or mages so... it doesn't matter much.

Height matters to me but I'm not sure how much. When I played TOR I'd chose the large build as I wanted my bounty hunter to be large and imposing even though she was a healer and such a build would suit a tank better. I can't say that it's what keeping me from playing a dwarf though. The only class I tend to enjoy playing is mage. I've played through Dragon Age Origins and DA2 as warriors and I tried rogues but I never got into them. Even in other games like Warcraft I've tried warriors, death knights, rogues and so on but the only classes I really felt comfortable with is a paladin or shaman magic users that like to get in your face and take it off for the most part.

So height is important to me just not as important as being able to use magic.

It doesn't matter to me, at least that's what I used to think, I played as a dwarf on my 3rd playthrough of origins and seeing a small short heavily bearded man going down on leliana in the middle of the camp sent shivers down my spine which I can still feel to this very day. Nothing against dwarves, I freakin love Oghren and Varric, they're the funniest characters in the franchise so far. But yea something a little bit off putting about dwarf and human romance

Napoleon was considered small and he had no problem being a conquerer. Height isn't always correlated to power. I can't wait for my Cadash to go around kicking people in the shins with ease.

I'm a short person (about 143 cm) myself so I like Dwarves a lot. I also love height differences in couples! :D But I have no problem playing other races. I think my Cadash is always sentenced to a height difference romance because no Dwarf LIs.  xP

It doesn't bother me at all. It's an RPG. I play all races and have them romance whatever.  my canon warden is a female casteless dwarf that romanced Zevran.  I'm a short female in real life. Hight doesn't bother me. why should it?

I wanted to play female qunari who has short boyfriend. But after all gatings that didn't work out. So it would have affected my race preferences romance-wise, now I just have to play male qunari who has shorter girlfriend.. yep what's new on that height difference.

Nope. Height makes no difference to me. All I care about is the story and game play.

It doesn't bother me. Only thing that annoyed me was how a City Elf in Origins looked more like a teenager surrounded by adults. That is a body frame issue more than height.

It's definitely a factor. I never liked the short races like gnomes, halflings, etc... Dwarves I'm kind of alright with, I'll play them on occasion, but not that often.

Good to know. I figured some wouldn't be comfortable with the image of a powerfully built female character. That people feel the need to comment only make it more amusing. It tempts me to use some of the fan art that depicts her as very well conditioned rather then just well conditioned.

If you mean the fanservice? sure but the body is pretty spot on, after the last fight I think that is evident.

Also Korra is a good example of a short character that has the raw strength of aggression in itself. Other is Wolverine.

Dwarves are the most interesting culture in Thedas to me (I suppose I should say "so far") and the two Dwarf origins are my favorites by far. I tend to like more solidly built, squatter people in real life so I think that does bias me a bit since all of the other models from DAO/DAA are pretty restricted in that regard. Plus, the beards! But the height thing never really bothered me, I guess. I am 6'4" but I can't recall ever consciously wanting to pick characters based on their height.

I'm playing Dwarves for my first two Inquisitors, one romancing Blackwall and the other romancing Iron Bull, so I am curious to see how that plays out.

I usually like playing elves, since they are short like me (5'3), but not really short like dwarves. I am curious to play a Qunari lady though.

As far as that affects LIs, I usually prefer to have an LI with a similar height, and I'm not keen on a man/woman towering over my character. As such, I tend to romance dwarves with elves. I'll give Blackwall a whirl for my Cadash though. Not sure about Iron Bull, at the moment human is as short as I'll go with him.

It's sad, but I have a much easier time playing any height race with a female than a male.  I could romance Zev with a human female, but romancing him with a dwarf male felt really weird.  That might have been because of the height banter with Oghren, though.  When I play a dwarf male, I think I'm going to romance Josie, though.  The kiss scenes with dwarves of either gender were really cute, though.  I think my first Lady Aeducan romanced Alistair, and when he kneeled down to kiss her it was so romantic.

I actually prefer the dwarf race because of the height/width ratio. I couldn't really care less about my dwarf romancing someone who is taller because to me the way my character looks in his armor is my main priority in choosing a race over another. I just like the stocky armored look.

I am only slightly below average height of men in real life and I am still above the average for women. I do prefer to be taller than a woman myself but in games I don't truly care. My stocky dwarf doesn't look any less "powerful" because of his height in comparison with others, especially not if compared with the feeble noodle arms of the elves.

For my original character in Origins (the one you're looking at right now) I tried as best I could within the limits of the system (and the fact that I was borrowing a PC that belonged to my brother and thus on the clock as I played) to make a character who looked like me. (With a little extra in the tattoo because I thought it looked cool.) I'm taller than almost everyone I know, and if I don't have as muscular a figure as I'd like I certainly have a heavy one. So that I would play human in Origins, at least for my first character, was really a foregone conclusion given my goals during character creation. Only the fact that Qunari are now an option makes it up in the air what I'm playing first in Inquisition.

I've never really thought about it, but I guess it does affect my preferences. Although I've no interest in playing a Dwarf for story reasons, I'm also not a fan of playing as short races such as dwarves or gnomes or what have you. On the opposite end of the scale, one of the (many) reasons the Qunari are so appealing to me is because of how big they are.
