I never found height to big of a deal, but my main problem with elves in the first game was that their body frames made them look like young teenagers.

In a game, height doesn't factor in for me at all.

I can't play dwarves cause the height. Too short. Can't do it.

And I'm tall in RL so being able to play a femqunari has me squeeing. FINALLY I won't be shorter than the majority of my male companions.

How tall is tall? (shamelessly curious)

When I saw the female Qunari inquisitor walk next to Dorian...22.gif  And now I can play an elf too since they're not shorter than humans anymore. So yeah, it will affect my choice of race.

5"11 (so close to six feet I am T_T) edit: I also grew another inch so I was pleased. I might not be done growing.

on the downside that also applies to these tugboats I call feet -_- I went from a size 12 to a 13. :crying:

XD yes that pleased me.

Cool same height. Size 13, how much is that in cm?

To keep on topic, I once considered playing a dwarf but yeah I couldn't get used to that short height either, I never got past the origin story. I must admit though, the dwarves look much better in DAI, just look at Varric and Harding. Seriously if I can get my quizzy to look that hot and be tall at the same time, it'll be a high level fantasy coming true ^^

I don't think height is a factor for me. I am more interested in the social/story implications of playing a given race. When it is brought to my attention, I will comment on it via dialogue, but otherwise, I tend not to think about it, I guess.

I don't really think, "I'mahumanI'mahumanI'mahumanI'mahuman" as I walk rhythmically through a meadow, nor, "I'manelfI'manelfI'manelfI'manelf" as I stroll through the forest.

sixfootonesixfootonesixfootonesixfootone

fivefootsevenfivefootsevenfivefootsevenfivefootseven

Nope; not much of a factor for me.

29.4 according to google.

Same. It was fine til I hit ostagar and the neck craning hit. After that. Nope. I'm hoping I can get my qunari lady to look very amazonian

I just looked, and I think I would have a size 9 1/2 in US size. I have a European size 40-41 and you'd have a 45.

I liked the qunari quizzy in the game footage, I thought it was so nice when she comforted Dorian. As for amazonian, it's one height right?

I wish I was that foot size again :(

Same. Nah just really really tall is what I want. Preferably tall and curvy.

Actually that kind of kills some of the enjoyment for me, but I've been planning to play as an elf for so long that I'm kind of stuck now... not a huge problem, but it is annoying.

i'm considered tall amongst my peers, yet i really can't play a dwarf, though i really do like dwarfs but they are just too short! and a leader need to be you know.. intimidating not cute

other than that, dwarfs are usually the best friends you could have in every DA game so far

I'm a tall and rugged man, and I can play as a female dwarf. Height and gender has never been a problem for me. The one trope I don't like is the hyper-effeminate male elf. Looks dangerous like Sephiroth is fine. More dolled up than a cherub is not.

IRL I'm tall (fem) and I tend to prefer/be more attracted to guys who are taller than me.  This carries over into the game - I prefer playing taller/equal heighted men and equal-heighted/shorter women.  As long as it's relatively the same, though, it doesn't bother me a lot - a human female and an elf male, for example, is all good.  But the height difference made me not want to play a dwarf - I did their respective origins and then quickly lost interest.  They're my favorite origins, honestly!  I just don't like 'playing someone that short.  Complete personal preference.

It is a little unfair, yes. The flip side of that, though, is that height and masculinity are so connected for some people that they slag off tall women as "mannish". Many guys that talk to me feel the need to mention that my height is emasculating to them. It's exasperating for all those people to make the mere fact of my existence into something that makes them feel bad about themselves, and then use that to set the terms of the conversation. If I were trying to start a relationship with any of them, I imagine it'd be infinitely worse.

I mean, guys can feel whatever they want about their masculinity and tall women, but I'd appreciate it if they'd refrain from taking out their wounded freaking feelings on us.

They just flat out say to you that you're emasculating them? How bizarre. I don't think I have ever heard a guy just flat out say that to any girl before. Sure, they may think it, but say it aloud?

It doesn't really, I picked Dwarf in Origins, then obviously Human in DA2 and my Inquisitor is gonna be an elf (my 2nd playthrough in Inquisition as a qunari) so I'll play anything, but I prefer not to play as human if I get the choice, although I love Hawke.

I guess at the moment I'm picking Inquisitor's based on which race fits which romance best in my opinion (I guess height difference is a factor as well) so yeah my first Inquisitor is a Male Elf with Iron Bull, 2nd is a Qunari with Dorian and 3rd either a Qunari or Dwarf with Sera.

At 5'2, I much prefer playing shorter races, but it doesn't stop me from playing taller races too.

Not that I'm short irl (5'8-9'') but I wish I was really tall, like a foot+ taller (don't ask why, I'm not sure, just imagine it'd be cool I guess) so I usually jump on being able to be a huge gal when possible, I was 2m11 in Dragon's Dogma (which I'm fairly certain was the tallest a female Arisen could be). But in DAI I'll stick with probably around 5'6-7'' human or 5'4-5'' elf at least for now because the qunari hair just sucks that bad

As for romancing, I'm pretty flexible about it, any race's height is fine by me except dwarves. Too short to work for me, also because they're too stocky and I'm not fond of beards. And tbh I think most of those we met are ***holes

(A thread to pass the time)

An interesting discussion i saw in another thread was the issue of dwarves and their height which sparked this topic. For me personally (as shallow as it may be), the dwarves height is really the only detail that keeps me from choosing them. Despite my interest in their culture and endurance in keeping the darkspawn at bay, i really cant be one for the simple fact that they're always looked down upon, literally.

Now that we are an authoritative figure and commander of an organization that answers to none, i want a player model that that will impose a sense of authority just by glancing at my Inquisitor, which is exactly why im very excited about the qunari option (along with a lot more).

As for the next issue i have with height, i think this affects males more than females (though there are exceptions of course). As a man it really throws me off to have a female LI look down at me or have to lean over to hug/kiss the character, almost drains my masculinity away.

So any thoughts on this "issue" if thats what you'd call it, or is it not an issue at all and couldnt care less about height?tumblr_inline_n9rcx4Wnxc1s9sxcr.jpg10467899_242300605970352_502527830_a.jpg

                                                                                                                           ( http://scontent-b.cd...502527830_a.jpg )

As a man, it doesn't bother me at all if the woman is taller than me. Hell, my most wanted romance options were a dwarf and a qunari. Huge size difference between them both, but I like tall and short women.

They don't usually use the word "emasculating" verbatim. Unless they're drunk.

Often, it'll be more like "whew! You're pretty tall. [forced laughter] Not used to having to look up at women, haha." or "Damn, girl! You're yuuuuge! Ima just be...standing over here. [walks next to a woman about a foot shorter than I am]"

Elves are still shorter than humans from everything I've seen.

I actually did like elves being shorter than humans. I think it fit with their second-class citizen position, as humans are literally looking down on them. It also distanced them from tall, DnD style elves, who always seemed a little too "superior" to be interesting, at least to me.

Solas was shorter than the HMI in the trailer and the FEI was shorter than Cassandra. I honestly don't know what you're seeing.

As some others have mentioned in the thread, my issue with playing a Dwarf in DAO was not so much their height itself, but how weird it made some of the cutscenes look (that one in the Tower of Ishal where Alistair spoke to the top of my Dwarven Noble's hair was... ugh).

I tried to run a Dwarf play-through several times (thought their culture was interesting and wanted to see their special content), but I couldn't make it past finishing Lothering with any of them  :(.  I'm hoping the camera angles will be improved this time, but I'll wait to see how things look via youtube clips before I start one in DAI.  The game is way too long to start a PC I won't finish because of cutscene weirdness...
