"Kossith" is not "the" name of the race, but rather the culture that predated the Qun. Officially, they are all "Qunari", and that's what the people of Thedas will call you, but other than that, there is no unifying racial catch-all word as far as the lore goes. "Oxmen" or "giants" would really be better.

But I'd rather keep that discussion in other threads.

I use kossith because it is older than qunari, before they came to thedas, meaning that there was no other races present that we know of. So kossith to me is what the qunari used to be, but since the qun was founded and claims anyone can be a qunari if they follow the qun it helps to have the term kossith to distinguish them from the other races.

No need to get rude. I even said I understood what you meant, but I thought sense you were interesting in the topic you'd like the know the difference for future reference. My appologizes if you took it the wrong way.

To be fair, all the npcs are just going to refer to you as a qunari anyway.

My PC will be a female qunari.

I'll say that the other two non-human races are rather unappealing. The dwarven kingdom has been reduced to a single city whose people struggle to have children. The elves are either chased from place to place and seemed doomed to eventually be destroyed, or impoverished and stuck in a ghetto.

Only surface dwarves and qunari seem to be thriving.

The race was and is Kossith. you see this with accounts of a Kossith settling in thedas in 400ish ancient then being destroyed by Darkspawn during the first blight. they weren't known as the Qunari yet. because just like we are called humans, at the time they were called Kossith. any one who submits to the Qun is Qunari.

Edit: real world example

Anyone can be a Christian

But that doesn't make every Human a Christian.

The definition of what makes one "manly" varies greatly. Varric is as manly as Bull as is Alistair.  A man is not made by his muscles or force but by his convictions, his honour, his word and the respect he shows for others IMO.

Alistair?  manly?

Well at some point when you play as a Qunari you're going to have the option of putting headgear on them

That's fine. Use whatever makes sense to you. I was just saying that it isn't the term for the race.

The race was and is Kossith.

Tell that to the devs, who insist on calling them all Qunari.

They have said Qunari PC cannot have head gear. same with iron bull. that is probably why they gave the Qunari a 50 point health boost.

Actually they did say why they just call them Qunari. because some people might not know who the kossith are except if they enjoy the lore so they did it for more moderate DA player. that's also why its the Qunari Inquisitor not the Vashoth Inquisitor even though many times they have said You are not qunari. you are vashoth.

Just because a Certain group call themself Qunari doesn't make the entire race the Qunari. and if you use the Argument well thats what thedas calls them. i can easily say i can call all canadians woodchucks, but that doesn't mean im correct. When the Qun was born it didn't make the kossith race or name disappear. all it did was become an ideology everyone who joins the Qun is Qunari.

If you really want to say what the race its now called, it would be Vashoth since Vashoth translates into Grey Ones. while Tal-Vashoth translates into true Grey Ones. Kossith is their race. even if they call themself Qunari.

Im still human even if i call myself Christian. but someone might refer to me as a Christian, yet im still human.

Dwarves are manlier then qunari. Sorry man, but as a fan of the qunari and someone who can't bring themselves to play dwarves, that's just the truth.

I'm gonna play the prettiest princess Qunari thank you very much. She will have impeccable manners, flawless fashion, a love of romantic stories that rivals Cass/Leli's, and a soft giggle. She may be large, grey, and have giant horns, but there will be nothing masculine about Daisy Adaar.

I heard that there will be something that takes the headgear slot.

Sorry that is my mistake. forgive me. i misspoke. I meant you cannot wear helmets as a Qunari Inquisitor. it will probably be face paint or headbands. maybe face masks like the Sten's had.

Depends on your definition of masculinity.

There are 4 types of men out there if you wish to categorize them by personality easily.

1) Alpha :- The player and the jerk. The studs and the rooster. The guy that gets the girls easily. A very conquering, leading, aggressive type of man. The power player as opposed to the quiet bystander or the introverted overlooked thinker. The James Bonds, the top athletes, the dominant CEO.

2) Beta:- The average typical men. They are the type of men who do "the socially right thing to do". The steady cogs spinning away in life. The type of men that girls dump for Alphas when they are young and then marry when they are old for free access to the man's wallet.

3) Omega:- The losers that women usually friendzone and other men look down on. The really super nice simpleton guys that everyone steps on.

4) Zeta:- The men who does not give a single f*** about what society and women think. He does what he does because he wants to. He is the indifferent introvert, the lone wolf, a man going his own way. The reject the traditional notions of what it means to be men and actualize their masculinity on their own terms independent of other people's expectations.

So a Qunari would probably be an Alpha personality or a Zeta personality type of man. I recall Freddy Prinze Jr. himself saying that Iron Bull is an alpha personality.
