I feel like manly in this case is independent of gender, and instead a precise unit: number of bears it is possible to wrestle while drinking neat scotch.

The Qun disapproves of making threads every five minutes. Give it a rest.
You know what I don't like? Forum dictators. If he wants to be a chatty cathy, let him be a freakin chatty cathy. Christ.

The definition of what makes one "manly" varies greatly. Varric is as manly as Bull as is Alistair. A man is not made by his muscles or force but by his convictions, his honour, his word and the respect he shows for others IMO.
I don't think so. Honour, convictions, and honesty aren't traits shared solely by men. They're noble traits that can be shared by women or men.
A "manly" man would be a stereotype; Aggressive. Extremely muscular. Big. Dominant. Chest hair.
Alistair isn't manly as manly as Varric or Iron Bull. He is timid and awkward and only speaks his mind AFTER the event has occurred (Redcliffe Castle)

Varric's chesthair is a close second to a MANLY BEARD, but I'm not sure it's truly of the same man-value...
Hmm. Tests.
If Varric would have a beard as well his manliness level would reach critical condition and who knows what would happen.
Hmmmm........
I think Varric growing a beard might be what made the veil tear.

we all have opinions.
You're right about that, we also all have the ability to look up actual definitions too xD
What you described were noble traits. The definition of manly varies based off of whether or not it is physically manly (As I described) or mentally manly (Courageous, daring, etc)

The "manliest" thing for man or woman to do is wrestle 5 cave bears with their bare hands, while holding a beer (or other beverage) and not spilling any of it. That is the definition of being "manly".
We reek of elderberries and satire!

Man, I was really just being bratty/kidding when I said I was going to make an ultra femme Qunquisator...but now i can't stop thinking about her. Large and strong while delicate and graceful...giggling and cooing over baby nugs and then taking a man's head off with one swoop of her 2H sword. Vivienne going from auto horrified about her huge frame to downright impressed by how she picks clothes to accentuate it while still being fashionable as heck. Going out on a mission to destroy the red templars and coming back with a perfectly arranged bouquet of flowers for Josie. Pointing out the best strategies on the war table by pressing one delicate lace gloved finger to the map. Holding her hands up to her heart like it might explode otherwise while hearing about Cullen/MageWarden or Biance/Varric, or some other romantic tale.
....I already have too many playthroughs planned, but...how could I not...do this....
(at least now I've found my Josiemance character

Give they are of the species of men.
Not some horrid crossbreed between oxen and men back at the dawn of time.

They are Dwarves.
Which are stunted and imperfect.

I'm just saying Qunari beards are a bit on the shabby side. Goatees are a sign of beard-based-weakness.
And if you want to call dwarves stunted, you can always try armwrestling one. They're the perfect build for maximum pain, beer, and efficency.
Very manly.

Nah, men just suffer from debilitating gigantism, same with the elves. Makes you so close to death that you go to the realm of the dead every time ya sleep.
Keeps you from being able to lift 50 times your own body weight or toss around blue rocks without going into a stroke, like dwarves can.

I don't know about manly. Wouldn't humans be that? Qunari almost seem appealing to furry/animal fans.
