I feel that being a mage will be extremely significant story wise in Inquisition, with the Veil being torn and demons pouring into this world, having a understanding of the Fade will be a big help when combating the demonic tide. What do you guys think? The whole glowing green hand will be intriguing as it may give you new magical abilities, but seeing as all Inquisitors will have the Mark, will it differ depending on which class you choose? What do you guys think?

Your glowing hand ability will not change depending what class you are playing as.

Doubtful. The main power that interacts with the rifts is the green glowing hand, and all classes have that.

However, given that there is also a mage-templar war going on, I'll be disappointed if being a mage has zero influence on that particular part of the story.

i also agree the first two stories we easly mortal skill. But that marked left hand(often seen as evil) that gives us a magical power to seal rifts a magical occurance. Ideally mages should only do this

I dunno, it's always story wise for me. Because either you're a Warden, a Champion or the Inquisitor, there's awlays some weird (magical) sh*t you have to deal with. Mages more involved in this... stuff, for better or for worse. Far more interesting than playing just a human or just a dwarf who just happened to be involved.

I'm actually a lot more intrigued by the roleplaying possibilities opened by NOT being a mage, and suddenly having a quasi-magical glowy green hand giving you phenomenal cosmic powers. As a mage, glowing hands and tapping into the Fade and handling demons is just your ordinary Tuesday, there's nothing new or fantastic about this - as an average person who's never had any contact with this creepy magicky stuff, you're thrown into this whole universe of demons, old gods, sparkly fingers, what is a Fade??, etc. Everything is new, everything is terrifying, are you a mage now?, how do you handle this? I find the "stranger in a strange land" aspect of a warrior/rogue dealing with this weird new supernatural world they've been pulled into a lot more compelling from a roleplaying angle than just the "mage doing mage things" it seems to come off as from the other side.

I ha the same thought! My first play through was going to be as a human warrior who fought on the side of the Templars. Then, suddenly, he's given these magical powers and has to rethink his whole view of the war and how this affects him because he's asking himself "am I Mage?" "Will they come for me when this is all over with?" "If I make the wrong choices will they condemn me later and make me tranquil?"

Then as a dwarf... You're a dwarf that can do magic! This is unheard of! You're the first of your kind to gain some semblance if magical abilities that the surfacers have. Might this be able to be passed down to your children? Could you be the start of a brand new and powerful caste?

I doubt it will make much of a difference (though it really should). I've always been an advocate for a personalized game experience based on class. It just never seems to happen in the way you'd expect.

The Dwarf idea is intriguing, especially if you let Dagna study at the Circle.... She might provide some insight into the phenomena.

I really hope we can see her again. With her meticulous nature of studying magic, she may be able to tell you what is going on. You never know. But it would great for a dwarf inquisitor.... Dagna romance DLC!!! Take my my money!!!

I am really looking forward to my Mage playthrough, especially if it opens up dialogue with the other companion mages and whatever goes down in the Fade. However, like ninetozero, I'm really going to love seeing how my Dwarves react to suddenly having contstant magical connection. Will they dream? Will they be terrified? Elated? I'm sure the writers thought of it all for this and I can't wait to see all the options and reactions!

Edit: browser collapsed -_-'

Btw looking at OP, I think I will roll a Rift Mage (whatever that may be), to match my glowy green hands ;)

And looking at other mage specializations.. I Don't think I find the others as interesting. Let's see..
Knight Enchanter.. Hm, nope.
Necromancer?? Eew... The smell.. XD

I plan on playing a Mage as my main character. Still lamenting the loss of the Blood Mage Specialization, so I will probably roll as a Necromancer.

Same here, no blood mage made me quite sad. Necromancer does sound fun if you actually get to summon the dead. If it's more like entropy from DA:O I might consider Rift Mage (although I did enjoy the whole Sleep, Horror, Waking Nightmare branch).

While my "canon" run is Hawke as a Mage. I love Warrior/Rogue Hawke who is passionately pro-mages because his outsiders perspective on the subject is so refreshing versus "mages complain about freedom" and "templars hate them for it."

Warrior Hawke's separation from Bethany, fear of the Templars, and so on really worked well.

As did his tragic loss of Leandra due to evil mages.

I imagine that there might be a few tiny ability differences depending on your class, yeah. I mean remember that potion you could drink from that guy in that tower that gave you those powers that varied depending on your class? Something like that.

I think it's possible the character's role as a mage will have an impact on the character, but not necessarily in how the mark looks on an aesthetic level. A mage would have intimidate knowledge of the Beyond that a non-mage simply wouldn't be privy to; there's also the different racial backgrounds that reflect multiple cultural views on spirits and the world beyond the veil, which can shape how the main character sees the crisis with the Breach. I'm also curious how these Beyond-related abilities will impact the Dalish and Vashoth in particular, since the former comes from a society who prohibit using magic related to spirits, while the latter may or may not share the Qunari view that the Fade is the Land of the Dead.

Well I am really looking forward to my first time ever full mage party! I hope we get special banter as we travel and deal with the closing of the Rifts.

You've acquired unique powers from the Rift. There's a specialization called Rift Mage. Mage Inquisitors will be called Herald of Andraste despite the religion reinforcing a millennium of systematic oppression against Mages. One of the female love interests is a Seeker; a glorified Mage hunter.

I think I know which class I'm playing first.

I'm willing to forgo locked chests and doors to see this in action at least once... I've been wanting a pure mage party since DA:O.  xD

Nah to both of these things.

Anyway, I look forward to seeing how everyone reacts to the mage surviving the Veil being torn asunder alone.

Mage Master Race checking in.  :D

In all seriousness, wizards have always had a significant impact on any fantasy genre they have been in, much in the same way engineers / techies have a significant impact in any sci-fi genre they have been in.

Adding to what you said TDKR, there is also the fact that Andraste is rumored to be a mage, there is the Mage-Templar war going on and then there is Red Lyrium, which seems to be a corrupted version of the typical lyrium that mages consume in dilute forms.

The Seeker is more of a Templar-hunter. The male love interest is the witchhunter.

I'm betting she went to the circle weather the warden helped her or not (I mean it's been ten years, she probably managed to follower her dream at some point). But it'd be cool if she has even more knowledge if you helped her get started earlier.
