Apparently Notch wanted to sell Mojang and Minecraft especially because the pressure was getting too high to work on it/run it. Minecraft according to him was never supposed to get as big as it did.

My guess is he saw how successful it was on 360 and went, "they can handle it".

Good thing is(and this is coming from someone with a 360 and One), Minecraft will remain multi platform. At least thats the idea from what I gather.

So is Notch going to stay with Mojang and is therefor now working for Microsoft (thus no longer an indie developer) or is he gonna stay indie and leave Mojang?

Notch is leaving so he can work on things other than Minecraft(stress/pressure related).

Ah, makes sense. As far as I know Notch he always wanted to stay a small indie developer and he wouldn't wanna work for a big corporation or publisher like Microsoft, so I understand why he's leaving Mojang. He already is stinking rich anyway so he can really do whatever he wants right now without having to worry about finances.

Not just him, the other two top figures for Mojang are leaving as well, presumably for the same reasons.

Small game gets big, pressure builds, stress escalates, sell to those who can shoulder the burden and go back to smaller venues.

I just think it's kinda funny after he went and threw his toys out of the pram after that oculus facebook deal.

Anyone wants to take bets on when the first micro transactions will come to Minecraft?

Pressure my foot. Notch already gave up leadership AND developing of Minecraft to other developers. He was basically only in charge of Mojang, And you can't cope with a company with 3 games and a extremely small team that you created YOURSELF, you're basically the worst entrepeneur ever.

No, IMO it's just a freakin' stupid excuse in order to be bought for 2,5B bucks. Which I understand, because heck, 2,5B $. But don't sell us the "oh, I'm stressed!" tale at least.

Sounds more like he wants to retire in general rather than selling Minecraft and making other games (though he may do so).

If I actually played Minecraft a lot I would be worried about this.

Good for them.  Better than being bought by EA, in my opinion.

I imagine Notch is basically strapped with enough cash for four lifetimes at this point anyway. Quit while you're ahead I guess.

I don't think too much will come of this. Even Microsoft has to be aware that if they mess up Minecraft the PC community will never forgive them, and large groups of angry gamers are bad juju muhgumbo.
