Hello everyone. So I've seen elemental and primal builds for a mage Hawke, however are there any suggested builds or tips for a Hawke focusing on spirit spells? Spirit bolt, walking bomb, horror and death cloud?

After reading the masked empire, i loved the creation/entropic mage featured in the book and wanted to recreate that sort of spell usage however i don't think i get enough skills.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks :D

It should work out pretty well so long as you have items that give bonuses to spirit damage.  You may also wish to build your rogues to cause disorient so that you can take advantage of cross class combos.  I'd avoid Death Cloud though... I never found it to be very effective... you may want to just take Chain Lightning with the CCC upgrade, unless you insist on 100% spirit damage.  I think you only need 2 points in Primal for the upgrade, so level 1 Chain Lightning and Rock Armor would work...  Spirit damage is very powerful in DA2 because enemies cannot resist it and it can cause them to become... horrified, I think?  It's like paralysis but it just locks them up and makes them tremble helplessly for a few seconds.  You need to do a lot of spirit damage at once to trigger it, but it's really useful.

Oh, as for weapons... I remember Allure's Crook being very good in Act 2 if you have the Exiled Prince... there may be other DLC weapons with similar effects, but I wouldn't know about that.

It's hard to build with a bit, because it can be hit and miss.  Also, builds tend to focus on the specializations, and where you fall in healer/dps/crowd control.  Those would be the first things to consider.  That and if you're playing on Nightmare (where walking bomb becomes an issue).

Spirit bolt is really useful, and many builds recommend it as the one spirit spell to get.  All the chapter bosses and their relatives (Rock wraith and profane, arishok and qunari, meredith and templars, and ogre) are all weak to it.  Useful to get and upgrade.

Death syphon is very useful for mana upkeep - more useful for healers and crowd control, not so useful for blood mages.  Watch it, though, because it sometimes makes bodies disappear with plot items, making plots un-advanceable.

Walking bomb isn't nearly as powerful as DAO, but still fun on non-Nightmare levels :)

Spirit Mastery is an awesome mana upgrade.  Great for healers and primal mages.  I think I'd use it for a Force Mage/Spirit Healer support/crowd-control mage, and not a blood mage (where all that extra mana is wasted).

Oh, one other detail - always bring a rogue.  Anything that causes disorientation - overpowering fog and chaos upgrades in sabotage, or disorienting shot in archery/Bianca - makes the target supervulnerable to upgraded offensive spirit spells.

Sounds like an Arcane Horror intern; might have to try that myself. :D

P.S. Looked at NM settings in case of Difficulty preference, and hope you have plans for those with Immunity:
