Also, didn't TME more or less made it clear Zathrian and Merrill's clan are LIBERAL Dalish clans regarding City Elves.
Most consider City Elves little more than EINO.
Why assume Thelhen's clan is any more typical than the other two you named?

Hell, I think Zatharian only adopted his First because she reminded him of his daughter due to the appalling situation he found her in.

Because life in Thedas sucks.

the man is well known for his compassionate spirit.....
This is kind of my problem with the Dalish, most of them are as racist as humans, and a lot of them even hate their own kind. (City Elves)
And there are plenty of examples of the Dalish helping humans. Taking in Aveline, one of the Agents in Inquisition MP is a human raised by the Dalish, the Archer I think. They also rescued Aneirin, took in Lanaya from human bandits even made her the First, accepted Pol, and so on.
It is wrong to judge the entire Dalish for the actions of a few bad eggs when there are plenty of good examples of the Dalish as a culture being accepting of city elves or circle elves, and even examples them being benevolent and willing to help humans.
Honestly I'd say the entire Chantry has done that, everywhere they believe in the Maker, Andraste was his prophet etc. and both Black and White Chantries teamed up to face the greatest 'heathen' threat, the Qun.
And then got back to killing each other over a philosophical difference to a single stanza in the Chant of Light.
Theoretically they could, but realistically they are tied to the alieange for the most part, not only because its the best place for them, but because it is the only place for them.
They can't usually join the Dalish because of their Andrastian faith
But the option is there. If the Dalish have the option to give up their faith and join alienages, then City Elves have the option to give up their faith and join the Dalish.

Part of what I like about Origins is the most radical Anti-Circle and Anti-Human mages and elves are the PC.
I found it funny before Anders you could be the most radical Mage alive.
:-)
But there are still varied cultures in White Thedas
Orlesians are in the habit of wearing masks, Fereldens keep mabaris, the Navarrans have different funeral rites
there is no cultural homogeneity based on their faith.
There's a certain amount of difference between nations, it's not 100% identical everywhere, but wherever you go you will find Circles, the Chant of Light, Templars, people paying homage to the Divine. The Chantry has formed the backbone of all the sub-cultures of Thedas. Even the Dalish culture is changed by Chantry power.
Hell, I think Zatharian only adopted his First because she reminded him of his daughter due to the appalling situation he found her in.
He took her into the clan, and she had to compete against the other mages within it, and had to excel in all things.
This is straight from her mouth.
But the option is there. If the Dalish have the option to give up their faith and join alienages, then City Elves have the option to give up their faith and join the Dalish.
but they don't in any great numbers, meaning they either don't want to or they can't

You realize the underlined aren't human and thus don't count as examples of the Dalish helping humans, right? ![]()
Because life in Thedas sucks.
So then no. TME doesn't make it clear that Zathrian and Marethari's Clans were liberal when it comes to City Elves. It only makes it clear that others aren't.
But the option is there. If the Dalish have the option to give up their faith and join alienages, then City Elves have the option to give up their faith and join the Dalish.
I'm not so sure the Andrastrian faith is what separates them. The Dalish have limited resources and also are a culture apart.
City Elves who join the Dalish are very DIFFERENT because they were raised differently.
Dalish may not want to essentially re-educate someone from the ground up.
They make an exception mostly for elves who have magic because that's such a rare skill.

The underlined were city elves, and part of the point of what I was responding to and rebutting was a hatred of city elves.
Dalish have jerks and saints. No different than anyone else in that regard.
but they don't in any great numbers, meaning they either don't want to or they can't
Well yeah, just like Dalish Elves don't want to live in human cities.
I'm not so sure the Andrastrian faith is what separates them. The Dalish have limited resources and also are a culture apart.

Pol. Aveline.
Well yeah, just like Dalish Elves don't want to live in human cities.
Because their religion is outlawed.

I wasn't giving a serious answer.
Is Redemption canonical?

Ah. Well the line before was saying there were examples of helping humans.

and I can go across Europe and see different cultures that largely developed under Catholic/Protestant traditions but theya re still diverse culturally.
Even within the nation states there is diversity, look at Spain for the best example. It has been Catholic ever since the Reconqista almost 5 centuries ago, yet there's Catalan, Castillan, Galician, Basque, etc.... cultural variances, cultures that don't even share the same language
Pol. Aveline.
Zevran.
Why didn't he stay with the Dalish?
My only criticism of either DAO or DA2 is that in DA2 we could not be an Elf. Given all the complaints about people have about both games I can overlook them all. BUT we should have been able to play as an Elf in DA2. Just lazy writing pure and simple. If Merrill hadn't have been in DA2 I think I may not have finished the game. Elves rule.
