I'd take a Skyrim-esque civil war over being railroaded into doing something plenty of my Inquisitors wouldn't do.
Couldn't agree more.

I'd rather see the elven inquisitor have to get their hands dirty rather than just make the questline generic

@Willowhugger: What if that group is directly opposing you closing the Breaches?
What if using the Eluvians is the cause of the Veil tears?
What if we find that using these things is why the original elven empire fell?
Not likely - but there ARE reasons outside of malicious slaughter to not support the rebelling elves. (to me at least)
Bioware can do whatever they want but I'd return the game.
There's always the Elder Scrolls Online.
I would, however, be very disappointed.

I'll do what I always do. Support the elves right up until they try to kill me for telling the truth. Or each other for telling the truth. Then I'll go home and cry about it as I write about betrayal in my journal.

why do that we are having a civil discourseYou just wait until the Dalish brigade comes then this thread will explode!
when a rebellion stars i think of the people they are always caught in the crossfire@Willowhugger: What if that group is directly opposing you closing the Breaches? What if using the Eluvians is the cause of the Veil tears? What if we find that using these things is why the original elven empire fell? But yes, like Mages, I do think no matter what we do that the elves will get screwed over.
You can't improve the lot of elves in Dragon Age without taking away from making them unique.
Which sucks.
You can TRY to improve their lot, though.

@Willowhugger: You're choice of course - I just really don't see why (and that shouldn't concern you).
Everyone is always crying about tough decisions in these games (not you) - and chosing between what you know is right (supporting the City elves) and what is painfully necessary (closing the Breaches) would be a tough decision for a great many players.
I don't want it forced either - but, if that situation is given, I WOULD want saving the elves regardless to punish the player severely in some other way.
But, it's not because of the elves... I'd say the same thing for the mages, dwarves, little children of Thedas... whatever.

BioWare has always railroaded our main characters
Not to the amount you're suggesting.

A railroaded story simply bores me.

ME3 having to work for the Alliance even if you were pro-Cerberus or Pro-Council
ME2 having to work for Cerberus
Dragon Age: Origins, having to side with Behlen or Harrowmont

I don't mind hard choices in video games. I like when games like the Walking Dead make it impossible to do a perfect run.
Do you save Carly or the Tech Dude?
Do you save or kill Ashley or Kaiden?
And so and so on.
I'm also hoping there's no "peace" option with Templars and Mages.
However, in general, I can't get behind a "necessary" justification for people who stand in for the oppressed and vicitimized peoples of the world. Those subject to racism and persecution.
Justifying that, even in fiction, would break my suspension of disbelief and enjoyment beyond repair.

so you'd get around that with a questline modeled after a snooze fest?

None of those involve being forced to screw over a group who could very well be your Inquisitor's own people.

I think it's possible to do other than snore fest or railroading.

It being a snoozefest is your opinion, no point in answering.

Dragon Age: Origins - being a Warden.
Dragon Age: 2 - being a coward who flees the Blight.
Yes - railroading happens all the time - and I don't think it's always the end of the world, but clearly it would behoove Bioware to be mindful in certain situations they couldn't help but know are very popular to their players.

Briala is a city elf fighting for city elves, she is willing to work with the dalish, but she is not dalish

I'll rephrase then
a series of quests that are identical on both sides, with few characters, and fewer unique perspectives on the war

Ideal Briala Scenario
I'd like the Inquisitor having the option to support Briala but knowing that if they do, they're probably going to be causing thousands upon thousands of deaths and may not actually work out in achieving independence anyway. Basically, it'd be the equivalent of financing one of the many independence movements which exist in the real world. They may work or they may just end up being a slough that never carries on.
At best getting a far smaller territory than they'd wanted.
Which means my ideal scenario is pretty damn depressing.

A rebuilding nation is 'unique'. I mean really rebuilding a nation. Not frolicking in forests or living in squalor while day dreaming about the the good ol' days.

I think you lose the coward definition when you kill an Ogre.
