I think that elfves are both good and bad.
City elf ftw :).
Dalish are an double edged sword they can be good but also bad like keeper zatherin and his curse.
But good like the hear say from multiplayers for da:i Hall the archer. An elf saved him as an orphan and trained him til he was old enough to be turfex out.

Some bad examples :'(

tbh, Zathrian was more of a grieving father who didn't know how come to terms with what happened to his son and daughter.  He still carried all that anger and grief after hundreds of years- something that isn't necessarily restricted to the Dalish, minus the 'hundreds of years' part.  I understand why he did what he did, but not why he let it go on for so long.

Speaking of Zathrien, isn't it weird he didn't take any other wives or make more children? Here we have it, a Elf that has lived for more than 2 centuries and he hasn't taken a single new wife since the time his children died? let alone got one preggers? Even if he wasn't interested i would think many of the women who knew of his power if not his immortality, would want to try popping out a few of his brats to keep that heritage going.

tbh, he never really did move on from what happened to his son and daughter.  Plus, iirc, Dalish marry for life, so Zathrian remarrying is kind of out of the question.  Then again, maybe he thought that remarrying and starting a new family was something he wasn't emotionally able to do.

Ok I think that I understand what you do mean but zathrian, well logically it makes no sense to live like that so twisted by anger and loss. We all have to let go and move on. Immortality or not.

I knew someone who lost his wife in his 20s, never remarried, and as far as I know, never really got into another relationship again.  Its certainly not the norm, but it happens.

Also, by the point we meet Zathrian he's been alive for a few centuries. That means he's known everyone in the clan since they were babies, he's probably known most of their parents and grand-parents since they were babies and their great-grand-parents too. From his perspective the idea of hooking up or falling in love with a member of his clan would probably feel wrong, almost like if he was hooking up with his own children.

I'm the type of person who has to get even with someone when I'm wronged, so I can hold a grudge for a long time.  But when I get even, I let whatever grudge I had go, though I'll still be keeping an eye on the person.

Zathrian had gotten his revenge; there was no need for him to let the curse continue for as long as it did.

Queen Victoria of England during the 1800's was like that. She married young, but he died, and she never remarried her entire life, and her line ended with you decades later. By that, I mean she had no direct descendants.

I can get why he had the grudge, but for me, it's as simple as this.

"Holding a grudge is like drinking poison and hoping the other person dies."

Talking about grudge and bad magical decision , I wonder if we're going to get Dalish ennemies this time.

I can't remember Dalish being 100% agressive unless you choose to fight them in DAO/DA2 .

But in the last trailer we saw a Dalish looking mage fighting Morrigan and the Inquisitor + it seems there's an Eluvian nearby.

Now it's possible it's a deceptive montage or you can make poor choices (or good for some people) and ****** the Dalish off.

Well, it seems that being able to wipe out a Dalish clan per game could become a tradition if the same scenario is repeated in DA:I, together with being able to wipe out a Circle.

true... it is the better choice to love thy enemy and forgive them

Loving thy enemy just seems like rewarding them for wronging you.

I personally like to split the difference and not like or love them, but still forgive them because holding a grudge just wastes my time and mental energy on people who aren't worth it. The sooner they're out of my sight and out of my mind, the sooner I'll know peace. In it's own way, moving on is the best revenge because it shows them (and yourself) that their actions against you didn't leave enough of an impact.

While I can appreciate the glory the Elves once possessed in their old empire, the fact they were defeated by a relatively upstart nation either highlights their weakness or the strength of the Imperium.

Elven mages are still cool though.
