That still creeps me out.

He says something nice about everybody but city elf chick who JUST got picked out for Vaughn's rape party because of her looks?

"Hey you're pretty".

...

*screaming internally* is pretty much how my CE was right then.

He probably figured the elf didn't get much of that since elves are heavily discriminated against.  He's probably more sympathetic and respectful of elves compared to most nobles since he used to be a peasant and led those ranger elves in the first book.

Pfff... If you are going for min/max then just summon the Golems every time. You don't even have to bring a party.

As far as usefulness goes, I always went:

Golems > Everything

Mages > Templars

Werewolves > Elves

Yup.

Leliana is an insane sociopath who hears voices in her head.

And the rest are elves who have an inflated Ego.

You humans always blame your mental problems on us Elves. Leliana is crazy because she finds elves attractive, Loghain is crazy because he said a elf was pretty, Kelder was insane because elf children are to perfect.. stop blaming us for your crazies. :)

Thank the Maker mods exist for this purpose...  :pinched:

Spoiler

Orana's original look is based off of Varrics imagination, that guy really has something against Elves.

Werewolves are more useful in Denerim anyway.

Only mages and Dalish are good on top of tower when fighting the archdemons because all melee units are kinda useless and just either stand there idly or fight darkspawn units where as ranged units are quite useful because they constantly target the archdemon.

Also Humans often find elves to be beautiful and physically attractive, as explained by both Zevran Arainai and Leliana in dialogue, there is also a codex entry mentioning this which is only available to none-dalish wardens. So its often not always but there is nothing against this topic in the whole lore. Heck elves are popular choices in brothels (not by players but by people of Thedas)

Templars were pretty useless in pretty much all the scenarios, since they were basically jsut a bit more beefy Redcliffe Soldiers, that could do anti-magic (yay they help against the 5 Emissaries you face!)... The Legion of the Dead soldiers are even more tanky, and deals more damage. So there is no reason, other than roleplay, to ever have the Templars in the army.

But oh lord the Elves.... Squishy as all hell, deals little damage because of LoS restrictions, the list goes on... At least the Werewolves actively search out new enemies on the map..

lol he thought my femelf didn't get enough of being hit on by strange human men? I refuse to believe he's that naive. He could've complimented her skill in combat. Anything other than her looks.

And yeah I'm not gonna argue the spoiler XD I already have in many of the Loghain threads.

Personally, I'd rather have units to distract the darkspawn while I focused on the archdemon myself.

I think the usefulness of the various troop types in the final battle sequence mostly depends on the area. Most of the time dwarves served me best, particularly in the Alienage bit, but elves actually lasted the longest and did the most for me in the Archdemon fight. Everyone else always got fried pretty quick from my experience, while I still had a few archers consistently doing damage with them. And I didn't really need another damage sponge.

Suppose golems are probably the most useful, but I barely ever have them personally. :S

There's pretty good in the more open areas, especially if you playing a well-speced tank.  And boy could they tear the Achedemone a new one if you could keep its minions of them.

Darkspawn units are a joke and don't need distraction unless they have emissaries or assassins which they don't on top of that tower, at least as far as I remember. But I speak about gameplay veterans here so for some that distraction might be quite welcome.

But the mages does that more effectively AND they concurrently keep the minions off of everyone. Basically the two best (and only choices in case of min/max) are mages and golems. The rest are just there for the visuals.

But I like the dwarves too much to inflict the Anvil on them.

It's literally the only traditional "Good guy" choice I always take!

Depends on what kind of characters I have as well as what units I brought.  I think my archer was having trouble, but my character who brought Leliana basically just killed the Archdemon with the Ballistae.

They did have Emissarys at the top of the tower.  Fortunately Alistair could hold their attention for the duration of the fight.  There are uses to being Thedas's favorite chew toy.

There do spawn Emisaries and Shrieks on the top of the tower. Not a lot of Emisaries though, but usually 1-3 Shriek per wave total (all three rooftop entrances). They usually tear through any of the squishy summoned soldiers, then gang up on Arl Eamon or other Leiutenant ranked ally on the roof.

I didn't like the mages that much either mostly because they KEPT KILLING ME WHEN I USED THEM IN THAT FREAKING DRAGONLING AREA

So much rage that I pretty much told them to screw themselves after that. Worse than useless they were killing me  Is it really that hard not to spam the fireballs in freaking enclosed areas. Does that really require that much brainpower?

But I played on normal so everyone was useful :P

They may not have been min-max, but they hardly sucked.  They were more than adequate for nightmare.

Well I never had that problem since I am usually playing a Templar Warrior, so I had immunity to knockdown, 75% Fire Resistance, and 50% magic resistance (totalling to only 12,5% dmg taken from Fireball). They barely even scratched me... My squishy party members though.... But they were just there so they could be first hand sources for my future biography..

Though now that I think about it, I'd reckon about .05% of the damage done to the Archdemon was done by the factions I called in. The rest was just ol' Archie attacking Alistair while I coup-de-grace'd through it until it was dead.

Only strategy you need, really. My sponge died eventually along with everyone else, but I still won. :S

I always use the Redcliffe soldiers for the Market, the dwarves for the alienage.  Tried using the golems for the archdemon fight in my last playthrough, but once archie flew to the south-west section of the map, the golems stayed at the north-east and focused entirely on the darkspawn that spawned there, so they weren't much help.

Usually have the Dalish help with defending the main gate, but I did try having the mages help with that in my last playthrough.  They kept spamming Fireball whenever the darkspawn appeared...  <_<

I mostly have alistair in party and he is a TANK. Emphasize on capital letters. He is all the distraction one needs! :D Mages are best to summon to fight the archdemon (care for their aoe though) but if you sided with Templars then the dalish are really good up there. Trust me on this one.

Well.. You can complete the mission, even on Nightmare, without ever summoning any reinforcements.. I didn't even realize until my thrid playthrough that you could actually summon them...

Yeah I usually played a mage or a rogue and they got knocked down easily. So that fireball was easily a good half my health and they spammed it. So I'd have to deal with the damn drake and their stupid fireball. I stuck to the dwarves after that. They at least didn't kill me.

My 2HD warrior was the only one who wouldn't have been bothered by that but by the time I played her I told the mages to screw themselves XD

But seriously most of the damage came from my mages and my rogues. Archer Leliana and Dual wielding Alistair were beasts.

Same here, my arcane warrior simply refused to die after level 14. She never died after that level the whole game in nightmare difficulty. Her other spec was spirit healer.
