I'm gonna be such a troll. XD

I hope so too. Maybe if you can rp being annoyed enough with the dalish ways (and probably willingly parts from them at the end of Inquisition)  I might be tempted to make on but at the moment I'm pretty meeeh.

eh. I had headcanon CE origins (similar to Lanaya) parents entered in the clan, leave behind the CE culture, but my Inquisitor grow up seeing her parents being treated like lessen Elves by the clan. and the spyng mission for the Keeper for her is just the last work for the clan before leaving behind those arrogant bastards.

I still hope something like the Surana Warden, who could tell wich was her/his origin, or at least the chance to set a "I don't like how the Dalish are" Inquisitor.

On human lands, yes, as would be the humans' right.  I am proposing that the Dalish seek out unsettled land beyond the boundaries of the known world... whether it works or not isn't even the issue.  They haven't even attempted to do this or anything similar in centuries...  at some point the Dalish are going to need to figure out a new plan... wandering in the wilderness of humanity's land isn't cutting it.

Funny, considering how both of the homelands the elves possessed in history were taken by humans through force.   <_<

But yeah, I'm pretty sure that unless the Dalish found a human nation that was willing to allow them to settle near or inside their borders (so far it's just Ferelden), they'd have to find somewhere a good distance from human lands to settle.  Which would be hard, considering how most of the land in Thedas has been claimed by humans.   :?

I'm reasonably sure that the former simply doesn't happen.

The problem with the first one is that regardless of what you do, the nearby human settlement gets ready to oust the Dalish from the area.

The problem with the second is that Velanna isn't exactly in the right state of mind.  Plus, you can blame the Architect for her flipping out and attacking any and all passing human caravans.  He was the one that had her clan wiped out and Seranni taken.

Actually, if you read the Architect's journal, one of his lieutenants independently decided to do this, and the Architect was confused on why. But he saw Seranni was being cooperative and decided to be nice to her and keep her help.

I don't get the joke.  "To the victor goes the spoils."  Do you think that if the elves had won those wars, they would have given the humans a bunch of free land?  Even in a fictional world that would be unusual.

Well, there is the Donarks forest, which is far to the northwest, past the Anderfels... not really sure what's out there but it's worth checking out.

Hmm... tbh, I never read the Architect's journal.  Good point.

They wouldn't have had to, humans already had a crapload of land.

The point is that when you lose a war, you have to deal with whatever the victors decide they want to do with you... that's just how the world works.

They'll probably say who your parents were though so *shrug*

Though if they don't maybe a CE who ran away from her alienage and got taken in by some dalish but later wanted to go back to her alienage with the skills she learned could be playable...hmm...it really depends on how the story is.

Maybe, maybe not, but I don't think they would've forced them to live in their lands under their laws and believe in their gods.  They would've probably just told them to get lost or something, imo.  The humans were the aggressors in the fall of Arlathan, but for the fall of the Dales, it's pretty iffy.

You know, I played the Banner Saga recently, and realized afterward that the mechanics of that game would work really well for a game about a Dalish Clan (or two). Maybe even one where the story was about one of them deciding to finally try to explore beyond Thedas borders or something.

I dunno... I mean, it's easy to say what we think might have happened, but we have to acknowledge that such speculations are innately biased.  I don't know if I am willing to believe that the elves of Arlathan would have been satisfied with just telling a race that randomly showed up on their continent to get lost after that group started a war with them and lost.  I also doubt that the ancient Dalish would have stopped at Val Royeaux had they been successful, but it's hard to say... tbh that war was doomed from the start thanks to the Chantry and the Exalted March.  The elves had to have known that they were essentially declaring war on all of humanity... what made them think they could sack the capital of Orlais without provoking a strong response?

Speaking of Inquisitor elves in the game, I've been having a little bit of trouble rationalizing having a Dalish Elf wanting to keep Dorian around, but I also don't feel like skipping out on all his content with her.

Anyone else having a personal conundrum along those lines?

I'm going to romance Dorian with a Dalish , unless he's pro slavery and elves are vermin stuff , I have no problem.

The way I see it , they are both born from a culture with a big magical past , and they have been defeated and vilified by the Chantry.

I don't think people in Orlais or Ferelden are very fond of Tevinter or the Dalish , and I think most people would be glad if they could both crawl somewhere and die and stop trying to resist.

Now Tevinter is really creepy , but they enslave their own people ...they are ruthless and they are not trying to hide it.

I never got the vibe they were trying to sugarcoat it and pretend enslaving the elves was a mercy.

They just won the war .

Besides the elves fought Tevinter too with Andraste and kicked their ass .

I just think my Dalish is going to look at Dorian and thinks "dude you're crazy , why would you want to save those people!?!!" but he also going to understand , trying to save and preserve your culture and people is well...pretty much what the Dalish do for a living.

I'll likely play as a dwarf or a human first, Qunari second, and Dalish third, each with a different personality to fit my personal headcanon for each inquisitor based on their background.

The first two playthroughs should give me enough perspective to know what a roleplayed Dalish would do, while also giving me enough perspective to see how race affects our interactions with NPCs.

I'm not sure how the Dalish are a good example of mages not needing to be under Chantry supervision...

Origins- Zathrian uses blood magic and deals with a spirit to punish humans, including many innocents. Clan is either partially or entirely wiped out as a result of this.

Awakening- Velanna attacks innocent merchant caravans.

Dragon Age II- Merrill and Marethari's actions lead to Marethari becoming abomination, Sabrae clan possibly wiped out as a result of this.

Masked Empire- Clan Virnehn binds demon, said demon is released and clan is almost entirely killed as result.

Looks like lots of demons, blood magic, and unnecessary loss of life due to Dalish mages to me.

Correction, Merethari's actions caused Merethari to become an abomination.

Merrill left the clan seven years earlier and was keeping her work, and the dangers involved, as limited to herself as she could, so she wouldn't put the clan at risk.

And the clan was full of adults who made their own decisions, most of which were crappy.

Marethari had no reason to deal with the demon, if not for Merrill.  Abomination Merrill or Marethari would have killed most or all of the Sabrae clan without Hawke's intervention. Not good for Dalish mages either way.

But I wanna be able to play my elven lasses too. (hopefully with less twig arm...)

I hate the twig arms too. I'll try to keep her in baggy sleeves.

I had hoped that Dalish mages would get keeper spells this time but it doesn't seem like it. I at least hope that the Keeper character in multiplayer has them

Didn't you see those new photos of the MP chars and their skills?  The Keeper has normal mage spells, unfortunately... http://forum.bioware...2#entry17385914

I think she should have at least had Stone Fist, if that spell made it into the game, that is... but on the bright side, the Keeper has Barrier, which has the potential to be one of the most useful spells in the game.  Actual Nature spells would have been nice though...

Merrill was no longer part of the clan. She left seven years prior.

Merethari had no reason, period.

Marethari still cared about her. That was the only reason she needed.

Marethari knew Merrill would return and that the demon would possess her instead. Marethari didn't just let herself be possessed for the lulz.
