True but wiping out the Dalish and THEN instituting my reforms gives me those warm fuzzies. Destroying wandering bandits before working on social reform is basic realm security.

They live in the Wilds, and are largely self-sufficient, they do not constitute a clear and present danger. If you're worried about security, take care of the Qunari first, not the fringe group whose master plan centers on you dying if they just hate you hard enough.

True that's why we need to destroy them quickly.

A good thing their clans are so small, we cannot tolerate bandits trespassing on our land.

Well he wants to fight against what Tevinter is, so at the very least he can be used to destabilize it and against other magisters who enslave elves.

Dorian seems to be a bit of a trojan horse for the elves. Tevinter is one of the few places where you can actually have rich elves and no one really minds, it's also one of the few places where elves can become members in the ruling class, even if only in a limited fashion. I'd rather be a CE in Tevinter than an CE in any 'White Andrastian' nation.

--- --- ---

That aside, I'm not quite sure why everyone loves the city elves so much. Yes the CE origin was good and all, but is it purely just some underdog thing? Because the CE actually chose to be what they are now. The Dalish at least had the balls to pick the '...or pike off.' part of the Chantry's offer as opposed to the CE who went with the 'just roll over and die...' portion of it.

I think the Dalish's biggest, and by really far biggest, problem is that they have yet to master the art of being politely indifferent.

Every time you meet them in game they come off as unnecessarily rude. Sure you don't like humans and you want to be left alone, no need to be a dick about it and antigonise people more. Then again I also think the Dalish always come across as stupidly rude, precisely because Bioware wants to give players a 'good reason' to wipe out a clan each game.

Hopefully we'll see our elven companions.

I wanna see Fenris <3

Hopefully less growly towards mages since I rivaled him. (Though still somewhat WTF especially with the veil tear XD)

Actually that's fine too. If the Dalish were to agree to leave human lands entirely and keep their word I'd be more than happy to wish them a happy journey.

Who'd you eradicate last time? The closest you got was Dragons (the beasts this entire century is named after) and griffins.

I'm cool with this, depending on how far we're expected to go. We take back the Dales and you stay the hell out?

We smashed that reservation we gave you into bits and built summer homes on top of it. Then for shits and giggles we forced you to work in them. We eradicated any chance of your race ever being unified or powerful again. And the Maker's will was done.

No that's part of Orlais. Leave human lands and we're golden. I hear the Donnarks are pleasant this time of year.

I'd say that the social poisoning is something of a jump away from her Act 1 characterization. And on motives, it seems quite probable that Marethari thought she cared for Merrill, but I think an objective investment in Merrill's future and desire to see her do well was warped by a determination to not be proven wrong in her prejudices toward the Eluvian. Whether it was demonically influenced or not, I'm unsure, but Marethari was more obsessed with stopping Merrill than Merrill ever was with rebuilding the Eluvian.

I'm going to be honest here, I can't say that I've ever thought of it that way.  Marethari disapproved of Merrill attempting to use part of a tainted artifact that had either attracted or brought darkspawn to an ancient ruin and infected at least Tamlen with the Blight (potentially Mahariel as well).  Not only did Merrill continue to work on this project, putting the entire clan at risk in the process, she began trafficking with demons (or "spirits" as Merrill would call them, although both are forbidden by Dalish custom) and utilized blood magic.  The clan knew of this long before Act 2, so I'm not sure what kind of social poisoning you're even talking about... Marethari understandably did not endorse or support Merrill's behavior, but the clan didn't really need any additional information on the subject.  They were all glad to see her go in Act 1, and did not want her back unless she gave up on blood magic and the Eluvian.  None of these facts indicate that Marethari had a vested interest in being right, since all of them lead to the same conclusion: Merrill's behavior was endangering not only herself, but also her clan.  Whether Marethari was right or not seems to be a separate issue, not the primary motivation behind her actions... considering just how potentially dangerous Merrill's actions were and how many different ways her project could have backfired, it's far more likely that Marethari was concerned for her safety and that of the clan than proving a point.

Hm, minus the whole pushing out part, I think we actually agree on something.

Maybe try north beyond the Donarks and have a go at it. Better chance of starting anew out there than here.

I'm still not sure why they didn't just give them back Arlathan forest. Looking at the maps it seems uninhabited and no one seems to particularily care about it.

And I'd wish them all the success and prosperity in the world.

The Dalish don't belong in human lands, they know it, humanity knows it. Everyone would be better off if they were to go off on their own and find peace.

That was reimbursement for helping you gain freedom, it was politics, not charity. Don't ask for help and then expect lives to be given without value.

PS You're on our land, the former Elvhen Empire. Don't ask me to be grateful when you call land that was stolen a gift.
