You bring up an interesting point, Steel. We have yet to meet a Keeper that hasn't been involved with spirits.

Zathrian: Bound Lady of the Forest to a wolf to create a curse that lasted for centuries.

Marethari: Let a Pride Demon possess her.

Thelhen: Summoned a Forbidden One.

I like how despite the negativity and arguments, this thread has managed to endure.  Much like the elves have endured for centuries.   ^_^

To be similar to the elves, this thread would have to be locked, then have everyone in it either go and become second class posters in other threads that everyone dislikes, or just wander threads and occasionally whine about thi- Oh, right.

I wonder if this is a symptom of game/lore seperation, or an indication of a larger trend of the Dalish being down with demons, despite their teachings supposedly condemning it.

Given that it happens in games and in other media I'm inclined towards the former

I'm hoping there will be a lot of challenges to the elves in this game. I think they deserve to have an important plot in terms of the entire race's future. In the few readings of their history, I wonder if we'll ever have a story where they rediscover Arlathan, or maybe even one of their gods returns in Inquisition. One interesting facet of this world is the use of lyrium. I wonder if that might be what was responsible for their loss of immortality. Perhaps the ancient elves didn't use lyrium for their magic, but the Tervinter's use of it polluted their world, kind of like uranium. If Inquisition introduces a change in the whole culture of magic, I'd like to see the elves get a chance to come out on top of that.

You live a nomadic lifestyle, while worshiping a polytheistic religion, no access to any form of urban amenities in any way, in addition to belonging to a different species than the rest of us, while being houned by religious and secular authorities? lol
Chemicals don't have free will and the ability to trick, beguile, etc.. it was a stupid idea from the start and I'm tempted to dismiss it as natural selection in Thedas

No. But neither do I live in a feudal state, serving a ruler endorsed ny a supreme religion while living on gear that dragons, darkspawn, or abominations may swoop down and ruin my day.

There is no perfect analogy for a demon, and they shouldn't have brought Michel into the camp, but tete was no sign Imshael was able to escape until then. They had safety guards in place, but Michel decided to take things into his own hands, which allowed his esvape. They had some idea what they were doing, and didn't count on some day fool attacking the wars themselves. Doubtless the rest of the clan knew better.
But my point was merely that the Dalish are hardly dying out, and I fail to see why you think they'll be dead. in under a century.

Also, Fel'Asian isn't a Keeper, we don't even know if he's Dalish.

Since the Keepers are pretty much in charge of each individual clan, I'm guessing this is one of those cultural variations I keep hearing about.  Marethari is the only one who actually enforced the rule against dealing with spirits, but Merrill, her apprentice thought that was so outrageous that she abandoned the Dalish entirely to go off and do her own thing... if she had actually become Keeper, that clan would likely have met a bad end when Audacity possessed her without Marethari around to take her place.  In most cases, this rule doesn't seem to be enforced at all, and the only time it was, the future Keeper ignored it and went well beyond casting spells that utilized the aid of spirits...

I'm not arguing about others potentially identifying Andrastian Humans, even though the parallels between modern humans in the developed world and Andrastian humans are much stronger than elves, I'm arguing your use of Dalish identification.

Demons as a whole should be left alone, trapping one and intending to use it to help reclaim land in a war is not a sound idea.

I will admit that I exaggerated the "in an Age" bit, but they are still a dying people

I meant Thelhan, sorry.

Though Felassan has Vallaslin, so he is Dalish.

I still think that Audacity's place was to possess Marethari from the start and merely used the threat of possessing Merrill to get Marethari into position.

I mean, which target is more appealing to a Pride Demon: A mage who is a pariah, or a mage who is a leader of a group of people?

out of curiosity has anyone ever made a city elf support thread? It seems like it's needed.

Pride demons may be clever, but predicting that Marethari would choose to shield Merrill even at the cost of becoming an abomination would take more than cunning.  That sounds more like precognition to me.  Merrill was younger and more powerful than Marethari anyway, so she'd have been a better host... I doubt it had any real interest in Marethari until she showed up in the cave and let it possess her.  By that point it probably figured any mage was better than none, since Merrill had been avoiding it for years.

We met Merrill for five minutes in DA:O, and she was still a better character than that lobster-faced buffoon we saw in DAII.

Funny, considering how this is a support thread for elves in general and it managed to attract quite a few anti-elf BSNers.  Besides, what makes you think that the same wouldn't apply to this thread?

I thought this was a general elf thread... the OP doesn't specify one way or the other...

Not really. There is a whole skill about manipulating people, and if a person who lives for a few decades can master it than a demon who has been around for thousands of years certainly has had time to do so. And hey, if Audacity's plan to possess Marethari failed he would just possess Merrill. A win-win situation for him. Do we know Merrill is more powerful than Marethari? I don't recall ever hearing that. I'll grant you she is younger but that doesn't really matter to a demon. And he had been silent towards her for years. That's why Merrill wants to go to where Audacity was.

A number of us so called "anti-elf" posters are really just anti-dalish. We support city elves being used as human auxiliaries and would even consider them honorary humans for serving in the dalish counter-insurgency.
