Elf Lover Questions

 

1. Anyway, what do you guys love about the elves?
 

2. Which do you prefer? City Elf, Dalish, or Circle Elf?

This was intended to be a friendly place to talk about people's love for Elves.But I see that there's not many of us out there in these forums.

 

I tend to root for the underdog factions, so I am a staunch pro-elf and pro-quarian BSNer.  Apparently people feel like the oppressed factions only have themselves to blame for their lot in life, even if it they were forced into their current situation by an outside influence (I'll admit, the quarians did screw up with the geth, but the Council repeatedly kicked them to the side and refused to help them time and again... ok, you know what?  Forget I even said anything about the quarians).

I'm sorry, where are the elven haters again? Nobody's jumped down your throat. They're discussing their opinion on the topic of elves in Dragon Age. The fact that you don't agree with them is the only "problem" I see here.

The City Elves much less so than the Dalish

 

The City Elves need to be given greater rights and recognition within their respective nations.  I don't think Briala's rebellion is the way to go about it, nor do I think we will be able to side with her

There are a lot of elf haters in the forums, and in the past two months, they swarmed to the elf threads to troll it, derail it, and do whatever they can to express their hate of the elves. Especially the Dalish. 
 
These haters blame the Dalish for all the problems (or at least some of the haters do) with the bigotry between elves and humans, and have often expressed a desire to wipe out all Dalish if possible, and anything that even remotely looks like supporting elves, even for roleplay reasons, they oppose strongly.

I admit, I'm not the biggest elf fan, but why on earth would anyone dedicate energy to tearing down an important aspect of a fictional world? This makes very little sense to me... maybe I'm just new around here.

1. I love the fact Dragon Age elves aren't the usual Tolkien ripoffs mostly. The Dalish are a little too close for my liking but even they are still very differnet, being about recovering a lost heritage which was forcibly stripped from them. The City Elves and their parallels to the oppression and persecution of so many RL groups gets my inner leftist radical going, though. So, yeah, I love the City Elves.

 

2. City Elf. I love the Circle Elves, though, because they're Post-Race. They live in harmony with their fellow Mages.

 

3. Sera, definitely. She'll be my MageInquisitor's BFF.

 

4. Nope. Human all the way.

1. Well, to start off with, I like how they're a deconstruction of the typical fantasy trope of what you can expect from elves. Pretty much, the exact opposite of Tolkien. Then I started liking their lore and their mythos. I'm fascinated with the Dalish gods and customs, and I really like the Valleslin, or the blood writing given to them upon adulthood. I think it's artistic and reminds me of the Polynesian/Guam islands, well, not really remind me of them, but my father went there for two years on a church mission and brought back a bunch of seashells, fond memories and excellent stories that I grew up on. 

 

2. I sympathize with the City elfs, I see Circle elves the same as Circle humans as they don't suffer any racial discrimination there, it's all about the magic. But I love the Dalish's lore, mythos, and am fascinated by how so many clans can survive for hundreds of years when their religion is outlawed and they're hunted by the templars because of their keepers and their firsts. 

 

3. Can't say, the game's not out yet. I like the idea behind Solas better than Seras, simply because I'm interested in the hermit. But again, the game isn't out yet. I thought I'd hate Zevran when I read his character description before Origins came out, and I loved his character, even though I never romanced him since, well, I'm a guy who likes playing male avatars, and I like girls.

I don't get it either. I can get good debates, I enjoy them, but this happens so often with elf threads that it's almost easier to not even discuss things with the people who troll them.

*shrug* I don't get it. To me, a city elf would simply be a human with pointy ears facing the same discrimination as a Dalish. There's more room for variety playing as a Dalish.

The reason that either elf faction has their lot in life is from the Fall of the Dales, before either of them existed separately from the other. If one is to blame for their own situation, then the other is too.
