Elf Lover Questions

1. Anyway, what do you guys love about the elves?

2. Which do you prefer? City Elf, Dalish, or Circle Elf?

3. Do you like Sera or Solas more?

4. Will you be playing an elf?

1. Mostly for reasons that are already said above.

2. City Elves are more sympathetic, but I like the Dalish in their own little way, despite their flaws. May be a bit biased as my Warden was one.

3. Can't say yet. Solas seems cool.

4. Not at first. Thinking a female Qunari, but eventually I'll do an elf. Probably female rogue, for Warden-Inquisitor synchronization. Yeah.

1.  I really like how they stay proud of themselves regardless of their situation.

2.  I prefer the Dalish overall, though I admire the willpower of the city elves.  Circle elves?  I tend to view them as mages before elves.

3.  I was originally going to romance Sera with my f!Dalish Inquisitor, Lin'Mi, but now I'm going to romance Solas with her.  I'll have a more detailed opinion on them after I've played DA:I.

4.  Yes, multiple times.

human nature says to tear others down so make it seem you have the bigger point. Bit im a monkey who knows

Well, depravity is a choice. How you feel in response to depravity I'm not so sure is a choice. Human nature +1

The reason that either elf faction has their lot in life is from the Fall of the Dales, before either of them existed separately from the other. If one is to blame for their own situation, then the other is too.

the dalish are to blame for their continued existence on the fringes of society, the city elves are not a part of that

*shrug* I don't get it. To me, a city elf would simply be a human with pointy ears facing the same discrimination as a Dalish. There's more room for variety playing as a Dalish.

Eh, Dalish don't appeal to me. To each their own, though.

With City Elves you're a person who is rising from the true bottom of society to build a new life.

Human origins almost always have them as noblemen.

City Elves are the "Peasant" origin.

I was horribly disappointed to find out Hawke was a nobleman.

It's the opposite way around actually. The Dalish Elves are very set in their ways. That's the point of them. That limits roleplaying variety.

Elf Lover Questions

1. Anyway, what do you guys love about the elves?

They're an interesting species with different ethnic groups that have splintered since the fall of the Dales - the Dalish, Andrastian, and Qunari elves making up three main groups we've privy to so far.

2. Which do you prefer? City Elf, Dalish, or Circle Elf?

My favorite protagonist so far as my Surana Warden, but I like Dalish culture quite a bit. I like their perseverance against the trials and tribulations they have faced for many centuries. They're nomads who refused to surrender their religious beliefs and their culture, they live a life of hardship to govern themselves, they follow an interesting pantheon of gods, and they view magic as a gift of the Creators.

3. Do you like Sera or Solas more?

I like Solas and Sera both. Both of them might be part of my initial 'All Star' team along with Iron Bull. I admit that I'm a little wary about Sera because of some comments I've heard about her, but I hope they don't turn out to be true. Ideally, Solas and Sera can provide different insight into their different backgrounds, and hopefully both of them care about the elven people.

4. Will you be playing an elf?

Yes, my first Inquisitor will be a Dalish mage. I'm pretty happy about it. :)

this is why we need a City Elf origin

we don't have a human peasant option, so we miss out on the perspectives of those at the lowest levels of Thedas's mainstream society

Not really. They're not a hive mind - the player doesn't have to be set in their ways.

I do find it interesting that Zevran and Fenris are our two city elves but, by far, the most varied from their species stereotype.

So that's two options: a Dalish Elf who supports the Dalish, and a Dalish Elf that doesn't.

No type of elf character provides an inherently superior or more variable roleplaying experience. Neither City Elves nor Dalish elves are necessairly more set in their ways. Sheesh, it's like people only like to apply what Sten said about people not being simple to their preferred groups and nobody else.

They exist on the fringes of society because of the Fall of the Dales. Their situation they've been in hasn't changed because of anything they did since then.

Well, as someone who has considered the issue, there are some problems. Playing as a male Inquisitor, neither Cassandra nor Josephine would likely want to part with human society to live among the Dalish, which is something my orthodox Dalish would want to do. There's the cultural differences that could create problems: he views all spirits as spirits, not Spirits and Demons, he follows the Creators, not the Maker, and he doesn't think magic should be controlled by the Chantry. There's also the problematic issue of children, since he can't have elven children with humans in general.

Being in a relationship with a human requires sacrifice on the part of the elven main character, as it did on Merrill's part. It's simply something some Dalish characters may not be willing to do.

A Dalish that supports the Dalish.

A Dalish that supports elves in general.

A Dalish who supports the City Elves and thinks their own people are a bunch of pricks.

A Dalish who supports neither.

A Dalish who really doesn't care either way and just wants to kill stuff and things.

...could go on.

They are welcome to surrender their ways and join the rest of their kind in human society

They are welcome to cease their goal of recreating an elven homeland

These things are their own fault, however I can understand why they don't do it.

Best Dragon Age Horror Story was, "The Chronicles of Racist Dalish Warden."

* Doesn't help Redcliffe village so more Shems are killed.
* Kills Isolde with Blood Magic then hands over Jowan to maximize the causalties

* Kills Leliana and Wynne to spite the Chantry and pollute their relic

* Kills Genetivi then claims it's to hide the secret.

* Annuls the Circle to weaken the Shems of Magic

* Sides with Branka so more Golems will make it more likely dwarves will kill humans in the future. Sides with Bhelen because he seems to likely bring conflict to humans.
* Kills Loghain and has Alistair executed.
* Sacrifices self so they don't have to live in a world with Shem.

If the only alternative to their situation is to let themselves be more persecuted than they are (ala the City Elves), then it's the situation is not their fault. It's the fault of the would be oppressor.

Not quite what I meant. The Dalish have a set of beliefs, that are set, but are unique to them. The City elf may be a peasant class, but a lot of their dialogue may be the exact same as a human's dialogue because they would have the same religious beliefs. The Dalish have the Creators, an entire mythos on spirits, and approach to them, than the Chantry and the Circle mages do, and in a dialogue with Anders, possibly even more realistic.

Merrill: All spirits are dangerous. I'm sorry you didn't know this.

In terms of roleplaying them, considering we'll have dialogue options, playing a Dalish will offer more options to the players overall.
