Thanks for giving me an idea that'll dull the pain of playing a Dalish elf. Can't wait to make my Dalish Templar whose tired of mages always leading the clans and believes templar-type training could prepare elves to deal with a situation where a Dalish mage uses their power for abuse or turns into a demon.

Does bring up the question though. How much agency will the player have on their character? I want to play an elf who defects from the dalish eventually, but I'd find it hard to do if all my dialouge makes me have to spout out about the creators and dalish superiority all the time.
In all likelihood there will be very little difference between Inquisitors of different races.... since we're dealing with a voice acted protagonist, the character will probably be the same overall. Instead, you will be able to shape their personality and express their goals through quest decisions. At least, I hope that's the case... if I am forced to call anybody "shemlen," I might have to restart.

They're just being diplomatic. Can you, now? Because in all of the dialogue options I recall that the Dalish can use that mention the Creators (like at the Redcliffe funeral), a city elf cannot.

I doubt you'll feel the urge to restart when your human inquisitor is forced to call elves "knife-ears". Shemlen is not actually a vulgar it shows the short life of humans used by Arlathan elves initially.

I know what I'm going to do on my second playthrough.

My way of doing it is just 'Define character beliefs, personality, etc.' Play as close as possible as the game allows. Sometimes they change depending on how things work out or I want the character to develop.

Please don't put words in my mouth. I would definitely want to restart if my Inquisitor was forced to call somebody "knife ears." I don't like playing as racist characters, regardless of what race the PC is. IMO "shemlen" is disrespectful considering the fact that the Inquisitor is now living among humans... I do not want to be forced to use that word and would like the option to avoid it.

Honestly, every Dalish word is insulting... "quick children," "children of the stone..." lol... what kind of people insist on calling other races "children," even after getting repeatedly stomped into submission by these groups throughout history?

Indeed.
It's yet more arrogance on the part of a race that can no longer back up the checks their mouths cash.

You'd think they would come up with something a bit more fitting.
"Great warriors", or "Our Conquerors".

Wonder how that would sound in elvish...

This would work provided one didn't start trying to imprison Dalish mages as well.

It's actually just the elvish word for "human." The diminutive "shem" is the insulting form.
As for the "children" issue, don't the dwarves pretty much just call themselves children of the Stone?

The literal translation is "quick children," though... it isn't anywhere near as neutral as you claim.

Xil will you defend EVERY questionable thing the Dalish do or say? Or just most of it?

It's perfectly neutral. To the ancient elves, the humans would all die before reaching the elven equivalent of cultural adulthood.

Oh that must of made it extra embarrassing when the humans CRUSHED them.

Assuming you buy into the theory of immortality.
Which...most people here i'd assume don't.

This censorship seems to be a bit heavy handed, at least in my opinion. Seems to go counter to having real discussion and all that.
Whatever, I'd like to get some dalish armor in the next game, cause I will admit, the whole leaf motif they had going with it looked pretty cool in other games. Also I'm a sucker for compact and smooth curved armor over the more bulky, sharp pointed armor we've seen so far.
