True, but Qunari still have cannons. And that's better than mages. Not because a cannon is superior to a mage (it isn't), but because you can make as many cannons as needed and teach normal soldiers how to use them. Mages are a scarce resource and you need years to train one.

However, the moment some other country in Thedas learns how to make cannons, the Qunari will face a serious challenge.

True. You would think Thedosian spies would work harder to get that secret, wouldn't they? In real life, first sightings of gunpowder used in military actions happened during the Mongol conquests, but they were primitive (the hordes were far more frightening, actually). However, every testimony so far points out that the Qunari have advanced weaponry (for medieval standards) and that every country acknowledges it as one of the main reasons of their success.

The only logical explanation so far would be that the Qunari have an exceptional counter-espionage service or that they are incredibly lucky.

How would that work? The upper workings the qunari is hard to sneak into as a spy.

I just have this fantasy in head of casks of Gatlock being turned into magically charged artillery shells, i mean outside of just using it for canons, we actually could maybe use it for primitive rocketry.

How would that work?

Capturing a Qunari ship?

Capturing a supply depot?

Asking a former Qunari soldier?

There are literally dozens of ways it could happen.

1. Not going to happen.

2. Even more unlikely.

3. How it's made is limiter to those who need to know in the qun.

1. Qunari ships can be sunk and dredged like any other vessel, they aren't invincible.

2. Qunari soldiers die like any other mortal creature

3. Doesn't change that the Tal Commander from DA 2 had a recipe for it on his person (I'm assuming those combustion grenades are gatlock)

1. That not what a mean and souther thedus tech does not have the mane to get to a sunken ship.

2.Sure, they can but spys can't take on an entire supply depot of qunari soldiers.

3. They're not gatlock. Any one can make combustion grenades.

...What.

1. Let's say you want to get the gun powder from the ship...Sinking it means the ship would be at the bottom of the ocean. Boarding means means fighting the crew and if worst come to worse they can blow up their own ship.

...Way too risky.

2.now from a supply depot. That would be an entire base filled with qunari soldiers to sneak past or fight plus the have rogues as well.

3.As I said before anyone can make combustion grenades. The mc of da1 and 2 and npc sell it. It's wildly sold in ozimar.

Overwhelming force, infiltration, magic, poisons, throw a bale of hay into the water and watch them stampede over-board after it, there are plenty of ways around it.

Tevinter could have captured supply depots given half of Seheron isn't secured and shifting back and forth. Apart for that, there must have been supply depots established across Thedas during their invasion. Claiming they were all successfully defended, evacuated or destroyed is a push.

And yet, even after seeing cannons in actions no one thought of you know trying to refine the explosive process to produce similar effects. There's only one reason only the Qunari have gunpowder weapons and no one else does after the amount of time and exposure they've had, and its probably because the Devs didn't think of the implications of their timeline created.

Qunari have mages too.  Saarebas are formidable and utilized.  Completely trained as a weapon of destruction.

Saarebas aren't magically trained or educated at all.
