Yes please, since what you're implying is a fundamental breach of the Qunari's social structure and entire notion of gender identity and purpose.

I call your Sten quote and raise you a David Gaider quote

"If it was a task within the confines of that gender, yes. Even then a qunari might do it if the need was great enough-- though they would feel a task belonging to another gender beneath them. A male qunari will farm, if he must, just as a female qunari will fight. They won't like it, however."

http://forum.bioware...nari/?bioware=1

Yeah, that's still not the situation you're describing, where you can work for the role you want. Gaider is saying that in dire situations where the Qunari absolutely have to make due they will bend the gender requirements because they literally have no other choice.

I didn't mean to say it was a common practice or it happened all the time.  You said that Sten said it would never happen with no exceptions, but it does/can happen.

It's not common or "right" and it does go against the Qun.  Yes sex will cut off certain tasks (except in these instances) but I was only saying/meaning they can happen.  You can't completely "pick" your role......if you happen to be best at something when being looked at when it was being decided what your task would be.......well..........i think you might have a say....

Its still contradicting what you were saying about the roles and exceptions.

There is a difference between a warrior who is forced to farm because it is an absolute necessity at that moment, and a man who wishes to farm, therefor who wishes to be a woman and as consequence is lying to himself and denying his true purpose.

From this post I assume you are referring to when I said.

"Actually there are exceptions made in outstanding cases.  If you truly are good at a task.....it will granted. (except Arishok and Arigena.  Any race can fill, but not sex)

The heart of the Qun is to make the most of everything.  A worker performing a task they want to perform in some cases will push results over the top.  If a male really wants to farm (is effective at it) and he has shown he has a gift for it and will utilize it.  He will be a farmer.  He must make sure to STAY productive though.  Qunari are not lax."

I should have emphasized more of the  "in outstanding cases" part I think.

I didn't mean it to sound like oh he wants to do a womans job...the Qun is ok with that.  I mean it as that if he really wanted to perform the task (as in he was effective at the task and was a benefit in it)  He could and would do that job in those outstanding circumstances as long as he did the job well.

It was more of a "its not impossible" thing as opposed to a its a common practice thing.  You aren't going to get a womans job unless there is a need or situation.  If there is a need or situation of necessity then yes you can do a womans job if you are a male.  It's not commonplace, but it CAN happen.

Related to Qunari cookie-making, do the Qunari grow Sugarcane do you think?
They live in the right environment in Par Vollen, but I don't think the Qun would see a use to it. It would also why the idea of bread+sugar hadn't occured to anyone in the entire country yet.

Sugar was used to treat battlefield wounds a while before it occurred to people to put it into food.

Only thing sugarcane is good for is chewing(like smoking) its a waste to them. Plus going by their pragmatism their food is probably gruel like. Keeps you alive but tastes like dung

He's the Arishok, his role is to lead the Antaam, not to win spelling bees. :S

Anyone else feel that a game in the future will be about the Qunari finally attempting to invade and take over Thedas?

I think so, but others have said it would be too big an event to take place in a DA game... I don't see why it wouldn't be possible if we're going to be fighting a war against demons in DA:I.  The framework for large scale conflicts is being put in place as we speak.

Seems like a probable premise at some point.

I hope we can still play a Qunari/Vashoth character when that game comes. A Vashoth fighting off the Qun would be awesome.

That's true. Inquisition is already showing us that we can play the international game in DA.

Also, there's another option. To have it localized in a certain part of Thedas, like Tevinter. After all, even the Qunari at their peak didn't attack all Thedas at the same time. Not to talk about Blights being bigger in scope than the Qunari Wars, yet there was no problem setting the Fifth Blight just in Ferelden.

I recall them talking about creating maybe even a strategy-based game in some future for DA series

I doubt they'd do it, since that's like an absolutely diffirent genre but... hmm, it would be a perfect genre for such a war

I think the war is a good premise for the last game in the series. That way dramatic world changes won't matter as much and people will be able side with the Qunari without destroying the universe for any future DA related media.

Hm... I agree, although the idea of the franchise actually ending makes me kind of sad... :(

Despite the bulk of the Qunari being across a sea, im really hoping we get a good bit of information about them. With Iron Bulls loyalty being a bit shaky, it would be cool if he shared some secrets or details about the Qunari weaknesses....(Just kidding they have no weaknesses)

I think that as a Qunari Inquisitor, many people will be suspicious of you, whilst interaction with your own race will vary greatly depending on both your own and their disposition. I imagine a Qunari Inquisitor will have interesting dialogue with Iron Bull, Tal'Vasoth or Qunari that you encounter. The Inquisition may not be beholden to the Chantry, the history, heraldry and members will make the Qunari see your organization as a front for their rivals. As I plan on making a Qunari Warrior, I'll need to work hard to distance myself from the Chantry and be ready for the transition to Qunari society. I plan on retirement and spending my old age having beautiful horned ladies looking after me isn't bad. Even if I save Thedas from the Elder One I will always be regarded as a Qunari by the humans. Might as well live up to the name.
