In DA its the concept of being able to get that, or get it back, that makes elves, or at least the Dalish, appealing.

What makes you think elves were ever actually immortal? Seen nothing to support it, and plenty to deny it.

Like the fact that even back in the day their dreamers needed be treated and to eat to survive in whatever the bloody word for dream state in elven is?

.-.

That only a handful actually achieved what was credited by Merrill and others being a trade mark of the Elves?

Well that thing about some dreamers being able to draw sustenance from the fade and essentially become immortal. That's actually more appealing/interesting, than everyone having an immortality so cheap/fragile it gets ruined by what amounts to human cooties.

You can slit a Magister's wrists just as easily while he's taking a nap. But no one is running around claiming blood mages are underpowered.

But Blood Mages can actually defend themselves in this reality ._.

All a dreamer can do to the living world is influence the dreams of others, not much of an ability of the target is conscious.

All i'm saying.

I thought dreamers where also supposed to be powerful mages in the real world. What made them stand out was that they had an even stronger connection to the fade, being able to go in and out with out the aid of lyrium.

Blood magic does the exact same thing. Being a parasite is not a good thing.

I wouldn't equate drawing sustenance from the fade to being a parasite, that's kind of like saying us humans are preying on innocent oxygen molecules.

As for blood magic being able to do the exact same thing, why is it that tevinter magisters seems to have relatively normal human lifespans then? We know they're more than happy to use BM behind closed doors, you'd think they'd also be more than happy to use it to prolong their lives. Similarly, why does Flemeth need to make a new daughter to possess if she could just use blood magic to rejuvenate herself?

It's kind of like that, except dreamers give nothing back to the environment and constantly leech off the Fade/the slaves they themselves kept. The elves are bunch of hypocrites, and their leaders were parasites.

Because they

A ) Don't know how, but Warden's Keep shows that it definitely can be done.

B )And much more likely, they kill each other to gain power. Tevinter is a dog-eat-dog world.

C ) As for Flemeth, she's an unknown and probably shouldn't be discussed, considering she was able to transform a corpse into her image.

Funny way of spelling Jory.

Daveth blindly believed in the Wardens and it led to his death, Jory was a chicken **** and died for it.

Two different failings.

Uh huh.

Daveth never flinches in fear and trepidation the way Ser Jory does, and during the Joining gives a pretty good reason for any Warden to lay down their life for this cause. I'm not surprised some would call that blind worship, I just don't.

Yeah, now you're just pushing your argument past the point of absurdity. The fade is essentially a realm of limitless potential with no environment of its own beyond that which is a by-product of the mortal and mages have been siphoning energies from it as far back as anyone can remember with no detrimental effect to the fade itself.

the slaves they themselves kept. The elves are bunch of hypocrites, and their leaders were parasites.

They were no more parasites then just about any ruling class ever. I don't see how that makes the elves a 'bunch of hypocrites'. Nor do I see how the elves' past government really have much to do with anything I brought up.

A ) Pretty sure its the taint that was keeping Avernus alive and he was using blood magic to keep himself from going full ghoul. We already know the taint makes darkspawn creatures essentially ageless.

B ) So? The creme inevitably rises to the top, and since they can -according to you-  use blood magic to never lose the edge of youth whilst gaining all the wisdom of all age, shouldn't there be some centuries old magisters kicking about Tevinter? Should not most Tevinter Archons be exactly those types of people since they essentially rule through the might of their magic. Given that doesn't seem to be the case, I would say blood magic doesn't seem to be able to noticeably prolong lifespans under normal circumstances.

C ) Possibly/probably, it's entirely possible Flemeth actually wants to raise a new daughters/hosts. Maybe she adds their power to her own when she takes them over?

Any ways, the only case of blood magic prolonging someone's life beyond natural means I can think of is Zathrian. And even at that it seems that was not necessarily the original intent of the spell. Given what we now know about the ancient dreamers its just as likely being tied to the Lady/curse allowed him to tap into the fade energy in a round about way to sustain himself.

Daveth simply brings up the whole "someone has to do it." argument. I'm not sure how that's blind worship =/ someone does have to do it or everyone's screwed.

This. Daveth seemed quite practical about the whole thing, and given his life was pretty much sh!t any ways its not like he had that much more to lose by signing up.
