Burn the heretic
Kill the mutant
Purge the unclean

Warhammer is a very nice universe to show true human nature. Ready to sacrifice millions of their species just that few xenos can die, even destroying whole planets for it. Worshipping a dead man kept from decomposing by magic who is apparently "god-emperor". Oh and how easily they fall to temptation, legions of chaos are mostly made of perverted humans, tearing worlds apart. And we know not even the most pious human is safe from influence of chaos.

This. Daveth seemed quite practical about the whole thing, and given his life was pretty much sh!t any ways its not like he had that much more to lose by signing up.

Yep. Some of the origins are in pretty much the same boat (DN, DC, and DE in particular) so *shrug*

Jory was being an idiot. I got his fear but he was the one who was all eager to join the wardens to begin with.

Ten pages later, the other reason I'm going Human first is that for 3/4ths of the development cycle, DA:I was a human only game. The main plot and connections were written for a human protagonist, the main side issues we know we'll be dealing with are human centered, the current non-party cast shows a significant human bias, and I suspect the majority of the Inquisition, regardless of how you resolve the conflicts, will be humans who follow the human religion.

I suspect that a year to shoehorn in three other races won't have been enough time to give them more than lip service the majority of the game. I'm sure there will be specific scenes written for the "Aha, this is a purely racial perspective moment!", but I think most of the time there will be no difference from playing a human.

I'd just rather play the race the story was written for rather than one of the afterthoughts.

I fear our more ardent non-human supporters are going to find themselves frustrated and disappointed by the final product. I'll be pleased and impressed with what BioWare can get done in a year if I'm wrong, but I'm not holding my breath.

I don't really think so. It's not like every second of the game needs to have constant acknowledgement of your race, so long as it's fairly race-neutral during the parts that aren't race-specific.

I don't want to play human first because both my DAO and DA2 main world state is with a human lead. I want a bit of variety and I was really looking forward to start as a qunari but have since changed it to an elf. Humans tend to have the largest plot significance in DA games and that's understandable as it is set in a world dominated by humans and the stories are mostly about them. I like the idea of being the outsider in a world of humans. Regardless, I'll still do two human playthroughs and am quite excited for them!

They handled it well on DAO. urn of sacred ashes quest was not really relevant to race so we gonna ignore that. A quest favored Dalish, a quest favored dwarves, a quest favored human noble and city elf. A quest favored mages. Each favored race/origin had more plot in the connected quest. Redcliff was made to favor human commoner origin but that origin was deleted before release of the game so it does not favor anyone.

You're right, Torture and indoctrination, going extinct, and going extinct by breeding is so much more interesting.

Yeah, now you're just pushing your argument past the point of absurdity. The fade is essentially a realm of limitless potential with no environment of its own beyond that which is a by-product of the mortal and mages have been siphoning energies from it as far back as anyone can remember with no detrimental effect to the fade itself.

They were no more parasites then just about any ruling class ever. I don't see how that makes the elves a 'bunch of hypocrites'. Nor do I see how the elves' past government really have much to do with anything I brought up.

Again, completely ignoring the fact that Arlathan had slaves which the dreamers also syphoned off of.

A ) Pretty sure its the taint that was keeping Avernus alive and he was using blood magic to keep himself from going full ghoul. We already know the taint makes darkspawn creatures essentially ageless.

Nope. The Warden asked how are you still alive, and he said blood magic can do such things. The Taint doesn't sustain Grey Wardens.

B ) So? The creme inevitably rises to the top, and since they can -according to you-  use blood magic to never lose the edge of youth whilst gaining all the wisdom of all age, shouldn't there be some centuries old magisters kicking about Tevinter? Should not most Tevinter Archons be exactly those types of people since they essentially rule through the might of their magic. Given that doesn't seem to be the case, I would say blood magic doesn't seem to be able to noticeably prolong lifespans under normal circumstances.

The idea that you can go on forever killing people and ruling tyrannically is absurd. Immortality doesn't give invulnerability.

C ) Possibly/probably, it's entirely possible Flemeth actually wants to raise a new daughters/hosts. Maybe she adds their power to her own when she takes them over?

That is how abominations work, yes.

Any ways, the only case of blood magic prolonging someone's life beyond natural means I can think of is Zathrian. And even at that it seems that was not necessarily the original intent of the spell. Given what we now know about the ancient dreamers its just as likely being tied to the Lady/curse allowed him to tap into the fade energy in a round about way to sustain himself.

He wouldn't have died instantly after releasing it if that were true.

Could we possibly stop with the whole "humans are awesome!" vs "humans are ****" thread of conversation. I mean what is there to even talk about this. People have preferences and that's it. I myself prefer non-humans but that means nothing. Why get needlessly negative about, IMO, a pointless topic?

Because this thread is like a heterosexual pride parade.

@Lulupab:  And what is wrong with heterosexuals?  Some of my closest friends are heterosexuals.   :P

I play humans almost exclusively simply because there is literally no other way to perceive the world - elves and dwarves and qunari are presented 'How a human would think a different race would act.'  It's not actually true.  It's like saying:  "I know what it is to be a dog, because I know some of the signals dogs make to communicate with us."  You can never know what being a dog is like... ever. Nor an elf or dwarf - especially given they don't exist outside of imagination.

For this reason - I prefer human characters simply because I don't find the lithe, delicate phenotype - nor the short, robust phenotype to be of notable interest.

SO - humans f--king RAWK!  YEAH!

With Vashoth mercenaries and surface dwarf criminals, there's not a whole lot of inherent culture to even ignore, so problems would be minimal. As for elves, we seem to be meeting enough of them, and their numbers are fewer than those of humans anyway, so I wouldn't expect a whole game to be talking to only them. There's every indication we'll be dealing with Dalish issues as well.

Didn't mean anything is wrong with heterosexuals, in fact I am one. But human support thread, just like a heterosexual pride parade is very unnecessary. Humans don't need any support, they already have it.

Also you are missing the point of roleplaying here. Being something you are not, and its not just about race. Playing different gender, having romances different than your orientation, being a ruthless killer etc... Being something that you will never be in real life.

Because someone has a preference for playing Human they are "missing the point" of roleplaying? No.

In real life. I will never be a sword swinging Crusader of Andraste, I will never be a Necromancer, I will never be female and I will never have a homosexual romance. Yet I intend to do all these things in the game because I am role playing.

Frankly, the "if you don't play a non-human how can you call yourself a roleplayer" approach, which seems to be quite common, is exactly why some feel a Human support thread exists.

It's more that we disagree with the notion that nonhumans are somehow inherently inferior, as Medhia mentioned, and what we say is "how can you call yourself a roleplayer if you deny that nonhuman races have value?"

Sure. There are more aspects to roleplaying other than being a none-human. Playing as human would still give some of that experience but you'd still miss major parts. Besides I'm sure many people play human as well, its just that when something is majority and "normal" it doesn't need any support as I mentioned earlier. 50% of players (at the very least) pick male human warrior. Frankly male human warrior is the most boring and if you change anything you'll take one step from it. Heck even female human warrior is better.

Parts of what? None of these races are real and all of them reflect real life. What exactly would you be missing out on by roleplaying a human?

It's a video game.  None of it "needs" support. Some people prefer to play human, and this thread is to talk about that.

100% true fact and definitely not just your personal opinion, an opinion that has no bearing on anyone else's in the slightest. I will say that most players will pick male human warrior. They'll pick whatever is default. It's well over 50%.

What does "reflect real life" has to do with anything? Your question answers itself. You'd miss being the oppressed fantasy race in a fantasy setting. Maybe not everyone want to be that, but they are missing it regardless. Interestingly we have never been a commoner human except when being a mage. (Hawke was half noble and half mage, also there was no other choice so he/she doesn't count). Evidently we are noble again. If you want to start from being a nobody you have to be something other than human. I think this is intentional. This is also why city was was very popular as well.

It's a video game.  None of it "needs" support. Some people prefer to play human, and this thread is to talk about that.

In fact I'm going to play human too, first or 2nd time. But as said before it doesn't need to be "supported", and what is this support other than promotion in a forum? The race which is the most played doesn't need this promotion. Other races do.

100% true fact and definitely not just your personal opinion, an opinion that has no bearing on anyone else's in the slightest. I will say that most players will pick male human warrior. They'll pick whatever is default. It's well over 50%.

That fact raises the question however, do you wanna join that boring bandwagon? Usually RPG nerds don't do the defaults.
