The human background story sounds great and is very integral to the whole mage vs templar situation.

Im playing both a mage and a templar human for these reasons.

Same here. I've difficulties making templar decisions in game unless I really detach myself from the character, but I think I'll enjoy it this time. I'm very curious to see things from both sides.

Yeah it does seem like it'll feel a bit more fitting to play a pro-templar character this time around. A pro-templar Hawke felt weird to me given that their father and sister were mages and lived a relatively happy existence, and I could never see a reason for an anti mage sentiment to come out of that.

Even Carver is all talk. You can see it when you make him a Warden and side with the Templars, he gets pissed off at you for it.

Not to mention murdering every single mage in the circle for the actions of an unstable abomination who was never in the Kirlwall circle is a little much/

I used to love playing Dwarves in PnP RPG's and even Neverwinter Nights, but in recent years I always seem to roll humans (with one female Elf exception). Can't really put my finger on why - it may just be simple aesthetics. I am quite tempted to play a Qunari at some point though, just because we haven't been able to before, but its human all the way for playthrough one.

Ever since I saw the screen shot of this guy

I've been thinking -"thats damn cool; light armour, fancy hat AND a big sword? Sign me up". I've had my sights on Cassandra since learning she was a Li and was thinking a Han Solo type might be just what she needs to melt that icy exterior... but when I think of the setting I keep casting my mind back to a Paladin I played in Icewind Dale whom I loved playing with a passion. Stuck up, a bit absurd but with protecting the innocent as a key part of his ethos. I see myself as a devout warrior - not necessarily a Templar - who follows the chant and believes magic is dangerous but has sympathies for anyone who is oppressed and believes the Circles should be reformed to be less like gilded cages.

I really expect to be siting at the character creation screen for a looooooong time.

I love how specific Trevelyan's backstories are and that there is two of them: different for mages than for rogues and warriors. I will do rogue or warrior Trevelyan (not sure yet) who is very Andrastean and embraces her family's affilication with Chantry. After explosion and her being sole survivor with fade hand she will think she's chosen of Maker and second coming of Andraste. Will be fun I think.

My inquisitor is a human male mage. He knows he and all maleficarum are the true master race. He hates his supposed family and all they stand for. He seeks to return Tevinter to its rightful place as lords of Thedas.

He despises the chantry and its false faith. Dumat is his lord and he will not stop until worship of the old gods is restored.

He seeks no peace to the mage and templar war, only the complete annihilation of the templar order will suffice.

Hey now, it's not ok to go into the the Elven or Dwarven thread and just say "Ew no Elves/Dwarves are bad" so it's not ok to do it here.

Have you read the elven thread?

I'm actually thinking of, for the first time, not being the nice guy in my first playthrough. My Human Warrior will be a guy who was put through Templar Training (that will be my specialization) and is Pro-Circle/Circle Reform. I'm going to end up putting the needs of the Inquisition as my top priority.

My first play through was going to be as a male human warrior because each time inplay DA:O or DA:2 my boys always want me to be one.

But he'll have fought on the side of the Templars as a loyal Andrastrean, devoted to bringing peace back to Thedas and the mages back into the circle. He'll understand their plight and the circumstances that led to the war, but will only hope for reform after peace has been achieved.

Then, suddenly, he's given these magical powers and has to rethink his whole view of the war and how this affects him because he's asking himself "am I Mage?" "Will they come for me when this is all over with?" "If I make the wrong choices will they condemn me later and make me tranquil?"

This will be an absolute roller coaster I emotions for him. He'll find solace in either Cassandra or Josaphine, a fellow soldier and comrade in Cullen and Blackwall, and perhaps answers to his questions in the mages of the group.

Depending on the events in the story, his views on the matter and his newfound political power will enable him to affect change one way or another. Will they call him hypocrite even as they call him Herald? Or will they cheer his bringing mages to heel while he quietly calls himself a monster? There's a lot of room for this story to go in just about any direction.

I'm really looking forward to it. Of course, my second play through will be female vashoth Mage.

I don't know much about any of the origins. I prefer to be left in the dark until I get the game. But I will have the human as my canon.  I don't plan on being loyal to the Chantry and if given the chance I'll gladly rid the planet of those annoying knife ears. :P

Mine is indifferent to social troubles. He can't be bothered with mages and templars in principle and he likes war cause he can leave the rules at the sidelines. He is a pretty bad guy fighting for a good cause.

He isn't a good frontline fighter but he likes to tempt fate and take unnecessary risks, sometimes for kicks, other times because his patience is wearing thin. He tends to rush into his enemies and while he is good at making adjustments on the fly a lot of times this backfires. This is also why he values loyalty and will do anything to keep those that fight along him that way. He trusts them with his life, and taking big risks amplify this dependency. He is a good duelist though.

As far as diplomacy goes, he doesn't play well with others. He prefers to gain support through deception and charisma and take advantage. This is because he is only concerned with ending a threat, not with the quality of life after the threat ends. Not his place. He likes his job though. Gives him purpose. He has manic tendencies.

Human mage for the win. It makes sense to me that a human leads the Inquisition. Most people involved are human and it was refounded by Chantry supporters. My mage might but heads with them, especially Cullen and Cassandra , but otherwise I will try and get along with them. I might even romance Cassandra to make things interesting .

Why?

Probably the lack of "Oh woe is the plight of the mages, I plan to burn all the Chantry and Templars to the ground" posts.  :P

Ah. Well I'm pro-mage but I think DAI could be interesting to do a pro-templar run. It's role-playing after all, I don't have to agree with my characters actions. I think it will be fun.

I plan to role a human male mage first. I'm intrigued by the background given to us about having a family that supports the chantry, because it closely mirrors my own upbringing. (My father was a preacher in a conservative church.) I plan to play him as a character that was brought up to revere the maker and support the chantry but over the course of time has fallen into doubts and frustrations with it. We'll see how this new found fade power, given to him by who knows what, will shape his faith or further degrade it. He could wind up embracing his role as savior or he could shun the messianic side and think of it as simply a way to get the job done. He may even reject the chantry altogether and side with the Dalish in their search for the creators. All I know is, it's gonna be a blast.

Humans are literally the worst.

This thread is not for you then. How about having the freaking courtesy to leave then?

I play all the races but I also play humans because I don't follow the ridiculous trend that humans are boring. And some of us have the imagination to play them to hearts content the same way we play non humans.
