My first playthrough will be a human mage, but I have a few things I want to know that won't likely be revealed until we actually play the game...

1) are we still in contact with our family while in the Circle?

2) if so/not, can we define what our relationship is with them or is this predetermined (in other words, we resent them for giving us up to the Circle OR we miss them and understand their position, etc)

3) is our family present at the gathering if we're playing a mage? this is only mentioned in the rogue & warrior blurbs.

Beyond the family questions which by necessity exist outside of the game (since these relationships are in place prior to the start of the story) I really have nothing defined yet beyond the fact that I'll be playing a Good/Paragon-type character who will ride the Bull.

 Hey now... my canon Warden was a mage.  A blood mage, in fact.  I like the class in theory, I'm just not that impressed by what I've seen so far.  Maybe the specs will change my mind.  So... we're cool, right?  I won't be facing divine retribution... yes?

As opposed to stabbing and turning into the Hulk, let's agree to disagree.

I'm... getting the feeling that you don't approve of blood mages? :?

If it makes you feel any better, Hawke was a non-mage.  He was even slightly altruistic at times.  :D

Hawke being a non-mage is worse, because then Bethany has to live with her cardboard-box personality and those hands.

I think your hands are the worst part.

I've got a couple of human playthoughs planned. One will be what I said earlier in the thread, another will be based on Harry Dresden, another on Atticus from The Iron Druid Chronicles. I've got a couple more swimming around but nothing fleshed out yet.

So, let's face it: Human Warden could totally kick Garahel's ass, right?

Spoiler

Those hands... Ugh...  :(  Well, I'm going to go ahead and blame Carver for attempting to show off and charging that ogre... Too bad it wasn't random, or better yet, the result of a choice by the player after a prolonged combat (or during.. like, you see both in danger ind pick which one to help).  Carver and Warrior Hawke would have made a great team.

Oh well...  thankfully Trevelyan won't have to worry about things like that.  I'm glad that the human Inquisitor's surviving family members will be far away in the Free Marches, so we can make whatever decisions we want guilt-free...

Them ears killed the Archdemon single handed, son. Single handed. With legendary critical hits that are probably known all across the land.

I for one am very excited to play master race human. My first character will be a human who enjoys everything about noble life and is pro-chantry/templar (at least at the start). Heavily based off of Oberyn Martell from Game of thrones.

The other options consist of pathetic elves who always get beaten, a thug dwarven lackey or a cool qunari mercenary who isn't brainwashed by the Qun.

The only other worthy race is Qunari which ironically will be my first Inquisitor's greatest enemy. I will kill Iron Bull if given the chance.

>single-handedly killed the Archdemon

>still not mattering because she's an elf

>she died from the Taint anyway, was never a Warden

Anyway, I agree with the above post, though I might spare Bull as long as he stays useful.

They seemed nice. Sucks that they're all dead.

Is Fergus still kicking for non-HM playthroughs?

My male human templar will wipe out all rebel mages and Dalish, along with any other knife ears that defy him.

He's sitting on the throne of Vigil's Keep while your precious Mahariel is sitting in waste pile in the woods.

Yes.

If by 'waste pile in the woods' you mean 'the throne of Vigil's Keep' then yes. :S

Yes.

Aye I remember now, Nathaniel saves him in an Awakening epilogue.

Nice guy, glad he makes it. Shame about his brother.

Cousland story is nice, but nothing compares to human mage. So your family was murdered? At least you have one. You're hunted by a human lord? I am hunted by demons. Every single day.
The power is a great coping mechanism though. Power! Unlimited power!

Lulz, the Human Mage has a family, outside of the Circle as well and nothing suggests they don't know them. Human lords pose more of a threat than demons to a prodigy. You've done nothing.

@Snook: I hope they take her rotting corpse off of  Vigil's throne soon. The real Hero of Ferelden will be returning soon.

I'm just gonna let you guys have your fun, DA is one of the very few settings that Elves are not superior to humans by their very nature. Everyone deserves to have fun now and then, though the elf lovers get it much better and longer than you :P

My first playthrough will be a human. His name will be Alec, he'll look like Sean Bean, and I'll wonder if he dies or not.

Haha, but seriously, so true about the "elves and humans superior" bit. It's annoying to read fantasy and have all the elves act like dicks and "gently" correct the humans on their barbaric ways.

Tolkien started the trend! But supposedly mortality was a gift to humans to be free from pain and fighting etc... whereas Elves are immortal and there is no "other side" even if they die they will return many years later so there is no sort of escape. They have to fight, always. Those who redeem themselves can move to a place where they will be safe forever... in mortal world.
