God that thread was simply terrible. That "Soo..Equality" one. Threads like that sometimes make me wish there were no romances to begin with if it meant avoiding that ugliness...But that nice to see the array of romances in this game.

You could always simply avoid the forums, or not click those threads.

Bioware's all about choices!  ^_^

I imagine it will be, sort of like Thane's, but preferably without dying from something random. Like a sword. It would be tragic, but expected for a middle-aged Warden to be due his Calling sometime soon. Though it might be a bit much if he actually dies in-game, maybe just implied for the ending post-game.

I know there's a really good chance something like this will happen (Calling and the Deep Roads), but I for one hope it doesn't. Okay, so it would probably be the most memorable type of ending being all bittersweet, but having to watch Thane die after I absolutely fell in love with him in ME2 was a horrible experience (even if the way in which they went about it was beautiful). I don't want my heart to have to deal with that again! :crying:

In fact, I think it would be awesome if everything led to Blackwall and the Inquisitor believing it would end that way (all the drama and tragedy that goes with it), but actually discovering a way to avoid the outcome towards the end of the game or something (in a very happy moment; perhaps Blackwall has spent a small portion of the game trying to distance himself from the Inquisitor - ala Baldur's Gate 2 LI's - because he doesn't want to cause either of them unnecessary pain if they indulge in the feelings that they are developing for one another?). Anyway, I recall reading somewhere (possible DA2? or something..), as well as seeing another poster mention, that there was a Warden who had found a cure, or managed to get rid of the taint and live a normal life again. Personally I would love that for Blackwall, and for other female players too. Perhaps getthing the cure wouldn't be simple or would require some sacrifice in exchange (so it becomes a harder decision to make), but it would be great if it existed for players to take if they wanted it.

But in any case, just my 5c - not speaking on behalf of anyone but myself, who would desperately love my lady Inquisitor to have Blackwall forevermore. :)

EDIT to add: On the topic of this particular thread, I feel for the guys who missed out on Viv - as a bisexual female I would have loved to romance her too - and for the gay and lesbian players who also missed out on Blackwall (or Cullen?) and Cassandra. I do think that everyone getting an equal amount of romances would be the greatest outcome, but I certainly understand why Bioware may have done what they did in a story-sense. It's hard for us in the public to understand what limitations they had, or how much work it may have been to create new characters from scratch to satisfy everyone (a lot), and though it may seem that having Cullen and Solas as additional romances for females wasn't necessary, perhaps - in the same way that Viv is unavailable to us - a romance with a female Inquisitor of the right persuasion added the possibility of an important element to be explored in these two character's stories (something they felt - as writers - would be a shame to pass up)? I'm only pondering with this, but I believe that the additional romances they added were something they felt was important in a story sense, and was never intended to give preferential treatment to a single group and make everyone else feel horrible. Why would they bother if it was not writer's conviction, especially considering the potential for fallout?

But again, this is just thoughts I've had. I don't want to stir anything up by it, but sometimes trying to rationally consider motivations makes it sting a little less; While I was not disadvantaged by this myself, I've experiences the feeling all too often in the past, and this has usually been the method I used  - continuing to feel crap about something I cannot change has never served any useful purpose.

I won't say what this sounds like. :P

In any case, Sebastian was a total tease. Sexy voice, beautiful blue eyes, and then he pulls that Vow of Celibacy thing on you (I think it's different for rivalmance, but still disappointing). Dammit.

I don't mind romances dying, as long as it's done well.

Thane is an example of how bad it could be, If Bioware's smart they won't go down that road again. Although I do want one romance to end in betrayal, I don't know if I would count Isabela from DA2.

They are now 13 characters that have been shown for the game (7 males and 6 females). How do we know they may be romance options and/or companions finally ?

Hmm? All companions and romance options have been announced, though.

Josephine, Leliana and Cullen are advisors and not companions. Cass, Dorian, Iron Bull, Varric, Blackwall, Sera, Solas, Vivienne and Cole are companions.

As for romances:

For males: Cass, Josephine, Dorian, Iron Bull

For females: Cullen, Blackwall, Sera, Solas, Iron Bull, Josephine

Or are you talking about other characters that maybe a romance or a companion? I think the devs have confirmed the above list is the final version.

I have no problems with female characters having more options.

A major fan base have wanted females to get more recognition and perks in games. Now they have it, yet others are now complaining about it?

We can all be a hard bunch to please :D

With straight female characters having more options, remember. As ever, the benefits only come if you're straight.

I am cool with this you know curing B-Wall but only if my Warden also gets the Cure he deserves a happy ending with Morrigan and his Son.

Oh, I'm sure they didn't do it to intentionally screw non-hetero players over. I just don't think they cared if we were hurt by it. Bioware is, after all, "not the gay messiah."

Not really.  I'm straight, and most of the LIs available to me just don't interest me.  :D

Don't bi-sexual female elves actually have the most available options?

Bisexual people have the most options in everything by default, so I didn't feel it needed to be said.

As someone else said, quality is better than quantity.  Once the game has been played, we should come back and rate the romances on said quality.

That will take time for me...I plan 9 playthroughs with all romances. I probably won't even be done by the time the next DA game comes out or the one after.  Some might get reduced to keep world states much like some of my Origins and DA2 world states.
