I remember when Bioware first did romances in BG2. Only 3 out of 7 playable races had any options. One LI was only available to 2 races. All companions were heterosexual. There were 3 options for males and only 1 for females. It seems to me that Inquisition is a big improvement.

I wouldn't call Anomen an option, frankly.

Whoever wrote him had very little idea of what females generally like in a guy - pompous, arrogant and unyielding to the extreme are not really on that list. Who would've thought?

EDIT to add: and really not that great to look at, either.

Normal guy? You mean the zealoutess celibate dude who has to murder his family's murderers before he can feel all pious and happy again. He had issues too...big ones.

How was he a zealot?

Oh dont get me wrong I didnt care for DA2s LIs either the only person I wanted to romance I couldn't "Aveline" but I was just saying if Sebastian had actually been developed properly he would have been a whole lot better than Anders/Fenris (IMO).

I actually liked him better then Anders (could not stand him.) and never bothered with Fenris ( I actually romance Sebastian with a Female Hawk.).

It does sting when your character has two choices and your friend's character has three or four... and three of those four choices were the only ones you actually wanted. It's rough.

Well... I did actually want Iron Bull. So that's nice. But Dorian was pretty much the only character I said NOPE to almost immediately. Thought I might get Cullen... Nope. Okay I might even settle for Solas... Nope. My god if I could only have Blackwall... Nope.

Am I bitter?... A little bit lol

I feel you I wanted a proper Dwarf Romance but no thats not gonna happen and then they taunt me with Harding/Dagna not cool Bioware not cool. :(

Too pretty and emo - I like my guys a bit more rugged and less hung-up on themselves, frankly. Both of them were too much alike. Also, Ander's voice was powerfully unsexy (and Fenris' voice was about the only thing I liked about him).

Anomen was  the best-written character in the game. Complete his quest to become a knight and his character development is enormous. It turns out that he's actually a good guy. He just masks his insecurities with bravado. You just have to put up with his ego until he matures enough.

It definitely does suck that he's the only LI for females though.

I did play his romance fully through, and I still found him unbearable. No character should make love feel like pulling teeth from the onset on. Blergh.

Ironically, the Kelsey romance mod had banter that was meant to make Anomen look like a fool (since he's an easy target with his arrogance), but actually served to make him look better and Kelsey completely immature. Never liked Kelsey much, myself (Kivan ALL the way, always), but with that mod installed it was the only thing that made Anomen bearable to be around.. for a time.

Jaheira and Viconia were far better written, and if we want to go player-made mods, then Kivan, KIVAN. KIVANNNN. (and also Xan) <3

But let's agree to disagree. :)

You know Straight Female gamers really deserve to have the options considering the BS they have had to put up with like the nonsense thet had to deal with in Mass Effect 3  "Jacob/Thane" both Romances were handled badly  so I am happy they are getting a fair shake in DAI.

And as a straight male I really hope Cassandra/Josephine are amazing as well I want Brothels with Female Qunari and Dwarfs so heres hoping. B)

Velanna was awesome and I honestly think she should have been in DA2 instead of Merrill.

@Panda

I love your profile Pic Deadpool ftw and on topic I can see what your saying about the Qun it would be rather annoying if the Romances where affected because of religous beliefs I am in a similiar situation my first playthrough will be a Male Qunari Warrior thats gonna romance Cassandra I hope the fact she is Pro-Chantry and my Inquisitor isnt wont be a major issue/annoyance.

BTW I would have loved if Vivienne was a Bi Sexual Romance option but alas its not to be apparently.

Thank you. I actually hope that religious differences are somehow mentioned in romances (not to the point that they religion-gate the romance out from you though :P ). I think it can stir up intresting discussion with the LI's and maybe make both parties consider their points. As long as it doesn't come to big issue between them I'm not against it. At the moment it just seems like Iron Bull's while not being completely pro-Qun, doesn't like when you are anti-Qun and since that would be part of my characters it seems akward. Maybe he'd be willing to leave the Qun? In that case he could be nice romance for Tal-Vashoth as well.

Dont get me wrong I like Merrill I just didnt like her drastic personality change from DAO to DA2 I thought she fullfilled the surrogate little sister role pretty well but I think having Velanna and her attitude about the Dalish could have been just as good as well.

Ugh. I couldn't stand any of them. I'd loved to have strangled Sebastian with his bow-string, burned Anders at the stake, and thrown Fenris off the nearest cliff. Yep, I disliked them that much.

Well I didn't find either of them sexy; they're not my type (Blackwall is more my type) but... Hawke and Fenris are just soulmates to me. I must have played that romance 20 times. Imagine if he had been gender gated. I'd have played it zero times.

I actually enjoyed Fenris more than Anders but in truth had he been Awakening Anders minus Justice that would have changed.

Meh.  He still counts an option.  He might not be your cup of tea, but I'm sure that there were people who liked that romance.

I did.

OK, he wasn't perfect, but that was part of the charm. Besides 1 is still more than 0, which is what we would have gotten if he wasn't there.
