I have to ask, why do you think Aveline would have been a lesbian ? It's the same thing that people have done with Cass. Having strong features does not mean they're lesbians, and these kinds of assumptions are a little annoying.

a specially when Aveline married Donick in all my playthoughs

Aveline was straight from the get go but cass seemed to show signs of swinging both ways. Not only that but had quite a following from female character players. Had almost nothing to do with looks til she was shown in inquisiton

Exactly this. Of course her being married to a man (Wesley or Donnic) does not mean she is only attracted to men, but Aveline has never shown any tendency towards being lesbian or bisexual. At least, not that I have seen.

I don't see why Thedas has to be majority heterosexual, to begin with. The "realism" argument is absurd.

So that it can keep replenishing its population?

As far as I know the only sign that Cass swung both ways was mentioning that Fem!Hawke's duel with The Arishok was 'romantic'. A word that has other meanings. I can see why people might think Cass was bi, but I think she was always intended to be straight.

Bisexual people don't seem to have any problems reproducing.

Well, considering we're dealing with some issues with overpopulation. I don't think it would be too bad if the people of Thedas had less children.

That and there appears to be some freaky inbreeding going on in Thedas what with all the children having the same face. It's creepy.

Thedas isn't a modern society though, we live longer thanks to having medicine and proper medical care to take care most sickness in the world and have access to various food among other things.

And they have healing magic, which just about any army worth their salt has access too. Not to mention we're talking about a Video Game. I don't even want more options than straight players. I just want everyone to have an equal amount.

Restricted magic, because most mages live in the circle and don't get involved much in conflicts without the Chantry's say so. to true, but Thedas is a rougher place to live in then our world because there isn't all those things we are use too.

So would I, but for the most part we have pretty much equality when it comes to the romances in DA:I ( at least what's available) as aside from the straight women having access to two race restricted extra romances but that isn't much an edge.

It is a pet peeve of mine that lesbians are not allowed to have strong features. I know you are not straight, but a lot of non butch lesbians have said that to the point we are being treated like a walking stereotype. And a bad one. Its gotten to the point that straight people accuse characters I make like myself online to be homophobic or a horrible stereotype. The fact is we exist, we are not a bad stereotype, but the insistance we are has seen that unless she is a baby butch(often a teen) even movies about lesbians will ever allow a butch lesbian.

I want women with strong features, like me, to be allowed to be lesbians (many are) without being a bad stereotype. So yes, when allowed to pick who goes where, I do like women like me to be allowed to be Butch. This especially hurts with Bioware who try very hard to be PC and I honestly believe that a woman with "strong features" will never be allowed as a romance because non Butch lesbians have a big deal about us being bad stereotypes despite being way more common than portrayed in fiction.

I'm guessing short hair and a lack of giggling behind her hand whenever a man walked into the room. Other than that I saw nothing that indicated any sexualily preference.

to be fair I usually try to pick for fairness, since I think more straight guys liked merrill than lesbians, but my first instinct was to say Aveline would be straight because she is a woman with strong features and that usually means she must be straight to make up for it.

When you first meet her she is married to a man who she is clearly devoted to and loves deeply. That tipped me off that she was probably straight.

She also (innocently) inquires if Hawke (male or female) ever thought about having a relationship with her in the many years they knew each other. She does clarify that "there was never anything there" but that could've been to make the question seem less suss.

I am not disagreeing with you that Aveline is canonically straight. I played the game. I know she is definitely straight and all the other masculine women that may or may not appear will also probably be straight. Hypothetical situation where she is a 1) romance option and thus has a different intro 2) where we have to change Most of the characters canon sexualities anyway and 3) the point was not who would be what but that there would be different costs and expense and it is not about realism so much as representation and budget.

Everyone gets at least 2 options. The difference is not realism vs not real but actually representation vs Budget. This immediately was skipped over to discuss my non canon hypothetical as being non canon which is frustrating.

Also take this into consideration. Just because one group has more options than another that doesn't mean those options are better or that your options are somehow diminished. If you walked into a restaurant as a kid with your parents and they gave you the option of cheesecake or icecream as a choice for dessert does it matter that at the next table over the parents gave their kid the option of banana pudding? If you don't like banana pudding then the option of it is a moot point; to relate back to this I am a straight male but do play female characters; yet I have no interest in Blackwall or Solas so the option of having them is moot to me. If you don't swing that way does it matter other people do have the option of swinging that way. Just having more options doesn't make them better options.

Also, on the subject of realism, this is a game where you choose your romantic choice and they don't have a say in the matter. Realistically, if a guy walks into a bar it doesn't matter if he has more options if has no actual hope of landing anyone in the bar.

The issue is the use of finite resources to give straight women more options than everyone else (besides bisexuals). Finite resources that could have been used for something else, like augmenting the existing romances.

In particular, it's disappointing that they took the time to make more straight romances during the delay instead of fixing Iron Bull's romance so that gay male dwarves actually have a choice, which was a last minute thing by a developer who took extra work.

I played both DAO & DA2 and I experienced every Romance some where good and some were not but thats my opinion.I am 30 years old and I am straight but I am secure enough in my own sexuality that I can play the other options and enjoy them in fact my favorite romance from DA2 was my Male Hawke/Fenris Romance.

So I am good about DAI I will experience all the options but I know my most enjoyable PTs will be my Straight Male ones they are the ones I can really connect to.

Oh I understand, and it does suck for you guys. But I think it's best not to assume anything based on psychical appearance. But you are correct in that you guys should get a butch lesbian character at some point. Maybe Bioware will realize it's not really a negative stereotype and have one in the next game.

I honestly don't think there's much to complain about. Like, yeah, there's always a group of people with a disadvantage who, of course, are allowed to express their opinion. However, that specific group is usually either female, queer and/or a POC. Because these people are by far less represented and respected in the gaming industry (...and in general).

Men still have 2 female romance options, like it was in the previous games. If it was always the case that female gamers have more options, I would agree I guess, but the way it is now, I think you should be able to survive ONE game in which females have more choices than you do.
