So that's half of the abilities a shield warrior could use?
Well, four abilities is half of what everyone can possibly use... given that we only have 8 available slots.

Bow abilities next I guess. :3
'You may correct that mistake'.
Nice. Don't mind if I do. - SHIELD IN YOUR FACE.
I love how lots of these ability descriptions are worded.
Nice! Finally some sword and shield.
Wouldn't guard be that metal bar that we've seen warriors have?
Yes... based on screenshots and vids it looks like DAI pushes bonus protection a lot, to compensate for the lack of health regen.
So basically it looks like Warriors gain "Guard", which grants bonus HP or some such. Mages may have some magical barrier, and so on.
And it looks like certain abilities will drain these bonus pools faster than others. Shield Bash looks like the counter to Guard, and I imagine there's a magical equivalent. Very interesting.
In the official E3 demo trailer (part 1), there are six active abilities of Weapon and Shield. In Gamescom there are five. And now we have four
I count 5. The two at the top, 2 more in the 3rd row, and the capstone one is probably active (hard to tell, but really, it should be active I say!
).
And really, let's not forget there ARE other trees for warriors. Even if it were just 4 sword and shield abilities (which is, incidentally, the same as DA2), we need room for the rest. ![]()
Does anyone else besides me prefer defensive sustains and passives over damage abilities for weapon and shield users?
BTW Shield wall looks just fantastic.

I prefer the damage abilities, quite frankly. One of the things I loved in DA2 is they made it possible to build a DPS Sword-and-Board warrior (stack SnB and Vanguard abilities, then go to town). So far, it looks like DAI will allow similar options.

There will be more if you click the left trigger.
Maybe it's like that:I wonder if guard will protect us from both physical and magical attacks?
Maybe it's like that:
Normally it only protects against physical damage, but there is a passive templar update that protects against magic aswell.
Templar update? There isn't any info regarding the specs yet but if my assumption is correct & the templar thing as well alot of tankquisitors are going to be torn between champion & templar.
I'm going to have to watch thise demo videos and see if I find any answers.
Which is something good. I hate that each specialization matches 1 role and only that role, meaning that if you want to be a tank, then you must be a S&S champion, for example.
I find it really fun to be able to choose between different specializations at least for my tank, in Hard/Nightmare difficulty, meaning that they are perfectly viable.
A tank reaver could also be a thing in nightmare, if they have a lifeleech ability. So we could perfectly have a tank of either specialization, and that is so good news.
