Human is kinda the basic playthrough for me- I usually do it for my trial/first run and then I switch to Elf to see the differences in reactions and dialogue. Next to mage the city elf was my favorite playthrough.
Most people played Origins as a human quote

Thanks for the info Icy Magebane.
Does anyone know if there was ever a quote implying or stating that most players completed only one playthrough?(if you know of a quote regarding how many people didn't complete the game at all, that would also be nice to know about).

Why is this even worth mentioning? We are humans after all (well, most of us anyways... if you know what I mean), so it shouldn't be a surprise to see most people play a race (human) that relates to them the most.

And how many of those got to the end (a tiny minority, I expect).

Human is always the last specie I will try . If I get to play as something else...then the something else always come first .

I'll definitely have to give a qunari mage play through a go. Should be fun and hopefully a few unique dialogs along the way.

The game was set up to play as a human, both of the outcomes where you could end up married to either the king or queen were only available to human characters.
Just because there is an option that appears to favor one race over others doesn't mean that the game was "set up to play as a human." Keep in mind that a human mage also cannot marry Alistair.
Being unable to marry Alistair or Anora as a non-human, non-mage is totally in line with the lore of the world and makes perfect sense.
And no, I'm not saying this because I got my cake as Alistair's wife while others are sad about it . My primary plays are as a human mage wherein I chose to remain his mistress.
what a load of Iorn bull I bet they only took a hand full of people and said yup thats a defo quote right there lets make it cannon
They did not take "a handful of people." These are metrics provided by the hundreds of thousands (millions?) of players that chose to upload feedback during their playing. There are online connectivity options for both DAO and DA2, and I think they might be enabled by default. So unless a player specifically chose to turn these options off or never connected to the internet again after authenticating their purchase, the metrics do represent a sizable portion of the DAO/DA2 playerbase.

I think the people who only do one run of the game don't care about character customisation and just go with the default (what my BF did during his Origins and DA2 play-throughs). He just wanted to play the game and didn't care about customisation.

I would gladly never play human at all if it meant I wouldn't be part of the statistic of "most people played human" which might convince BioWare to make another DA2 with human only
I played maybe 4 humans in DA:O and 25-27 non humans, don't take my non humans away again ![]()
The important thing is that we have race choices again

That statistic is making me think twice about a human DAI playthrough.
in origins I ended up with 3 human and 4 nonhuman.
1 For each origin story and recent one as a human to reacquaint myself. Shoulda played as a Dalish mage instead. *sobs*

I, like many people, played human more than the other Origins, but I played all of races at least once and I would be dead against the idea of not having a choice of races in future DA games. Being stuck as a human, although it made sense given the story being told in DA2, was a definite letdown for those of us who planned to play the game multiple times. Having a choice of races makes it easier to make each run through the game you do more unique and different and prevents the game from getting stale anywhere near as quickly as it would with less choices. The six origins in DAO made for an immensely more replayable game than DA2's one did.

I must admit, I don't understand why people relate to the 'humans' more, simply because we share a name with them. Unlike in, say, Mass Effect where there is considerable biological difference between the species, in DA most of the species are close enough that they can interbreed - and most of the cultural differences bring them closer to one human culture or another.

Human was the default. I often wonder how those statistics would change if another race was set as the first choice. It would be interesting to see what would happen if, say, the female dwarf was the first option.

I think even then Humans would still be one of, if not the most played race.
They usually are, even when they aren't the default choice. Just not by quite as much as when they are.

Sometimes these statistics do surprise you. The Final Hours of Mass Effect had a poll in it of what Shepard you played and I was surprised that the result showed the most popular was straight forward male soldier, whereas I avoided that altogether because it seemed much more fun to play someone with the sort of powers you don't get in the real world. Same is true of any fantasy setting; I invariably play an elf and a mage if possible because I find them more interesting than simply being human.
With DAO I started off as Dalish because I was intrigued by the reference to some ancient artefact and the idea of being raised in the Circle didn't really appeal. However, having played through once, I then did try the elf mage, followed by the city elf. It was only 4th run through that I decided to try human because I was trying to invent a character who might have reason to spare Loghain, and my elves had found that rather difficult after he had agreed to selling elves into slavery. I'm not over keen on dwarves myself but they did have interesting origin stories that added an extra something to the decision making in Orzammar. I thought the different back stories for the races really added to the role playing and the replay value of the game but I guess most people aren't that bothered about that. I did play through DA2 several times as different gender and class but it did get a bit boring and repetitive because it made so little difference to the story.
This time round I'll be playing an elf first time again and a mage. The only thing I regret is that there is no city elf option. I'm hoping that the different race backstory means that it will impact on what occurs.

I have to admit that I am not surprised to hear that (it does come up as the default when you first load the CC). I was also not surprised to hear that most people played as male soldier Shepard too.
My first play through of DAO was the elf mage (Surana). If there's the option in any game to play as an elf, I'm there. I guess I will probably do the same again for DAI. And with Mass Effect I played as a Vanguard FemShep (love biotics). Maybe I just go against the norm!

Well, in the end they gave us our races PLUS a new one.
I'd call that an epic win.

Such statistics don't take into consideration a lot of players who don't have the game connected online or to online accounts. Even if we take it as fact, it means means 20% of your player base did play as a different race.
So if say 3 million people buy your game, that's that's still 600,000 fans of that feature. Sure it's a minority but it's still a very significant amount of players utilising that option.
It's taking a rather negative view of things by focusing on the number who didn't use the option, when huge numbers of players clearly did. They wouldn't have brought back the races (and added another) if it wasn't a feature they thought an awful lot of players would take advantage of IMO.
Most people who play the game will never see the ending. For those that do, most won't play it again. Are these people more likely to choose to roll with a default character/human? I think it would be interesting to see the numbers in regards to those that have "completed" the game at least twice. How popular would human be as a choice then?

Three humans and an Elf play through for me.
Though if you look at Bioware's statistics it'll probably show I played as an elf twice and a dwarf twice but that was just ticking off the origins, human play throughs would probably be even higher than 80% if you disregard that.

I'm not sure why this surprises people.
Is it really that surprising when given the option of race most people pick their own?
*shrug*
I admit I played humans in DAO because HN is one of my favorite origins. (but elf mage beats it so :3)

Unless you've got a reason to think that the unconnected players are different from the connected ones, this doesn't matter too much. The population might be different, but you don't know how much or which way.

Except for when I tried a Dalish elf, I always play as human. I will play as a human in DAI.
