it seems to me that the Reapers are only interested in harvesting species with highly advanced technology (e.g. humans, asaris, turians) or power (e.g. Rachni, Krogans, Bartarians). They did not seem to harvest any of the other species.

 

So would species such as Volus, Elcor, Hanar and even Quarians be spared by the Reapers (if Shepard has failed his mission)? I mean the Quarins are a dying race anyway (only 17 million!) and Volus and Elcor and Hanar and Drells do not even seem threatening. Vorcha and Yahg cannot even speak.

 

I think the Reapers would have spared them since they are not even interested in harvesting them. I wonder why they are not interested in Salarians (they are quite advanced).

 

So in reality, it is really stupid to turn such races synthetic since they are not much in danger anyway.

No, they'd have targeted every spacefaring species we see. The Hanar homeworld can be annihilated in ME3 if you fail Kasumi's sidequest. The Volus homeworld is occupied, and the Quarians are attacked like everyone else. I doubt the Raloi strategy of destroying their technology and pretending to be a pre-spaceflight civilization would have worked, either. The Reapers aren't going to give an already-technological civilization (especially one with knowledge of them) 50,000 years to prepare for the next cycle.

Honestly, of every species in this cycle, the one with the best chance of surviving an unimpeded Reaper invasion is the Asari. You only need one. She could meld with a varren and produce offspring, for crying out loud - they're like a virus like that. For the Asari to go extinct, you'd literally have to hunt down every last one.

Irune and Dekuuna (The volus and elcor worlds) were conquered you actually do a rescue mission to get civilians out of dekuuna. The hanar homewoorld is attacked and theres even an indoctrinated hanar diplomat who tries to take down the hanars planetary defences to give the reapers easy access.

 

They saved the salarian for last and went after the big threats krogan batarian turian asari humans quarians geth.

yeah, i totally agree on the asari part. even if they left one alive, she can still breed with any other creature and give birth to a asari.

The Reapers destroy space-faring civilizations with the capability of creating an A.I. If the Reapers had succeeded (or in the aftermath of Refuse) the only guaranteed survivors from Shepard's cycle are the Yahg. The Raloi *might* end up spared as well, though considering they were in the process of being uplifted by the Asari and knew about the Reapers...they probably get wiped out too.

Despite not being space-faring, the Reapers invade their homeworld as well. In the Leviathan DLC you can visit their home system and scan the Vorcha home planet of Heshtok. This is the planet description:

A Systems Alliance official once summarized his tour of the vorcha homeworld as follows: "You can make your own Heshtok in two steps: take hell, then add vorcha." The planet is highly volcanically active, leading to periodic releases of toxic gases into the air and water supplies, as well as other extreme situations that gave rise to the vorcha's legendary adaptability. Overcrowding and the extermination of most of their ecology led to a planet covered in weeds and hardy vermin.

 

The vorcha do not have a recognized single government that would allow them membership in any galactic league. Alliances between bloodlines are tenuous at best, and the vorcha's short, violent lives ensure there are few lasting institutions.

 

The Reaper invasion of Heshtok encountered little formal military resistance, but the harvesting process is slow. Destroying neighboring cities fails to intimidate vorcha, who become submissive only if physically dominated in person. Cutting off their water supply simply makes them adapt their bodies to get moisture from food. Allied intelligence hypothesizes that Reaper forces are not harvesting yet, instead seeking to immobilize Heshtok's population and prevent them from joining the fight for the galaxy at large.
