I feel the difference between Inquisition stle and DA2 style is different than what people think. No matter what we get 2 options, whether we LIKE those options is very random and will differ from game to game.

The difference is which is better? For character A to be unromanceable, but B and C are romanceable to everyone OR character A is for someone of a different sexuality but character C is solely for your sexuality.

Both times there were 2 options, and whether A will be the one you always wanted, or C is the person of your dreams, it all is a bit up in the air of who you will like and is actually separate from what romance system it has. The question is really are you alright with there being more options, some of which are just for you. Or rather there are less options but (other than extra characters like Cullen, Solas, and Sebastian) everyone has the same ones?

I would rather for them to give everyone equal options instead of giving extra options for the same group every game.

You mean second game? I don't remember any other Bioware game having more options for female protagonist - usually it is the other way around.

And honestly, Sebastian romance is so... scarce, it almost doesn't count.

It's scarce but it is something.

If you consider things in terms of straight content and gay content, there are always (without fail) more straight options in every single Bioware game that has romance ever made. One of the problems with unequal options is that it's ALWAYS more straight options.

in Dao the straight females and males have 2 while the gay and lesbian have 1. In DA 2 females have 1 more while every one else have 2. In DAI everyone has 2 while straight females have 2 more. It seems they have more with each game. I just don't understand why they have to give 2 extra options for the same group that already have more options in the previous game.

But the romance options for the men are just so uninteresting.

There are no romance options specific for men.

Everyone is allowed to romance whoever they want. BioWare isn't going to come into your home for a "gender check" to make sure you're not romancing someone that you're not supposed to.

Oh, please.

Tallis romance has more content than Sebastian's. Do we count her as a full option, too?

Sebastian is Diana Allers of the game. It is a nice tiny extra, if anybody is interested, but in no way it is on pair with others.

In any case, straight elven and human females got more options... so what? In next game it will probably change and some other group will have more.

I agree, but that is why I didn't count extra content.

Cullen, Solas as extra for straight women and Dorian and Iron Bull are Bi

OR

Cullen, Solas, and Blackwall for straight women Iron Bull is bi and Dorian is gay? I think that is what the new system boils down to.

I would love for gay elven and human males to get those options. You are not elves or dwarves in real life, you are humans with certain sexualities or do you feel like an elf trapped in a human's body or something? lol Those options are for straight females, and choosing race is a lot easier to adapt than to choose to play as a different sexuality or gender because the romance is still aimed at humans in real life, not elves or dwarves. Highlighting it doesn't mean anything. I love how you downplay every option females have. I would love to romance Sebastian or Cullen as any race but can't because they are aimed at human females in real life.

By that system, then Blackwall would be bi as well since you're making all the original romance to be bi. Honestly, I would be ok with Blackwall. IronBull is like Zevran all over again with "anything that moves" bisexual stereotype while Dorian seems to be a bit flamboyant for my taste, not that there's anything wrong with that, but for once, can a gay romance has either a prince charming or knight in shining armor?

May be in the next game gay elven and human males will get more options. But I am not going to complain about it. (Shrug.) Of course, I have no problem playing any race or gender and understand not all feel the same, but this rage about couple of extra options for selected female races seems an overreaction to me.

edit:  I have a female gamer friend who only plays dwarves, btw. So I am not sure what aiming at human females in real life you are talking about.

I'm so excited about having the Iron Bull as an option! <3 Especially since he's a "bi" option.

Because people don't see it as extra options but 2 full options. Like I said before, fantasy race is different from gender or sexuality, Humans pretending to be a fantasy race is different from being attracted to males or females. I doubt they would give gay gamers more options ever, but I guess I can dream. Maybe it could happen in a parallel universe somewhere.

Oh, I wouldn't give up. It can happen. The progress in that department is already happening if compared to the games even 5 years ago. And if it will I definitely will say "Good for you!"))

The problem is that Gaider very specifically said that having more gay options than straight options would be "putting the cart before the horse" and he doesn't think that it would make sense to do that because gay people are a minority.  It was disheartening to hear because it essentially means that we should always expect to receive less options unless there is a major about face on that stance.  So I fully expect that, if the next game has more options for one demographic, it will almost certainly be either straight males or straight females.......again.

At least you are getting representation, though.

That's why making every LI a bisexual option is the awesomest... but some gamers can't get over the metagaming knowledge of their LI's imaginary sexuality, so I guess that's not happening ever again.

Or it was because Bioware preferred doing set sexualities

BioWare didn't make romance options for gay men, straight men, bi men, gay women, straight women, or bi women. It's a video game.

They made video game characters who are gay men, straight men, bi men, gay women, straight women, and bi women.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: BioWare should make a dating simulator. There's clearly an audience for it, and that audience would clearly be delighted to have one. They could be small, independent projects based around subgenres and subcommunites, with 12-30 hours of gameplay each, as "micro-games." They could make an entire series out of it.

Dragon Age is not a dating simulator, it is a fantasy* role-playing game. It makes more sense to approach it from a fantasy storytelling point of view. I think it makes sense to be inclusive, and I don't mind anyone who says, "I would like to see more characters in Dragon Age that I can relate to, and I'm <blank> sexuality/gender" etc. I think BioWare should listen to that feedback as they move forward. I think their writers are excited at the idea of including more diverse characters with each new game that they make. That's my impression, anyway.

* I don't mean sexual fantasy.

Yeah, had to get rid of any sort of ambiguity so we can have "real representation".  <_<

I think you have every right to be upset because any semblance of what makes a part of your identity is next to impossible to come by. I can understand that and I hope that'll be rectified in future installments.

But do not disparage my orientation and the orientation of others by implying, through the use of quotation marks, that the efforts in creating the current character line up is a half-arsed attempt at representation and we should feel bad for what we got.

Sorry. We can talk about being more inclusive, specifically of ambiguous sexualities, but this has been one petty quip too many.
