Likely Rylock just assumed "it's the mage's fault!", though perhaps it's also possible that it isn't the first time Anders' Templar escorts ended up missing in mysterious and decidedly lethal circumstances, perhaps giving a little more potential plausability for Rylock than just "she's a Templar, so of course she hates the mage."

That's an interesting idea, but not one explored by the game. It's still possible, I suppose.

... that is a damn good question. I guess she must be assuming since they're not with him, and never mind the possibility that he'd just slipped away from them the way he seems to like doing where Templars are concerned.

But why would she jump to the conclusion that they were dead when he has such a long history of non-violent escapes (that one time with Mr. Wiggums aside)?

I think I just answered my own question...  A few lines before, she says "This man is a dangerous criminal!"  If she thinks that Anders killed the templars that were actually killed by Mr. Wiggums, then it makes more sense that she would automatically assume that Biff & Co. were dead upon seeing him unescorted.

I always sort of got the impression, in Awakening at least, that the writers at least intended us to not be totally sure we could take Anders at his word.  Maybe I read too much into things, but from a more meta standpoint, at least (since I tried my own hand at an in-game explanation already), I think Rylock's claim was probably intended to make us actually think about that little "I didn't do it" from his intro scene a little more closely.

Or am I really the only one who got "might be a cool guy, might be a serial killer" vibe from his Awakening characterization?

Actually, now that you mention it...
