African history doesn't get squat from anybody in Europe.

Which is a shame.

Agreed. Because most African kingdoms not in North Africa preferred oral tradition to written history (correct me if I'm wrong), there's a misconception that nothing of note happened in the continent which is sad.

I don't know about you but I'd also love to see more modern fantasy rooted in African and Middle Eastern mythology. I heard that mythology in central Africa has were-hyenas.

That is "the Voice" (Shoko/Shoko raMwari). God's word in tradition is known as "the Voice". To traditional Zimbabweans, the "angels" are their ancestral spirits, lion spirits, (Mhondoro), and their hostile spirits cursed ancestors (Ngozi). Think of it as division.

They believe God is the original ancestor of EVERYTHING, yet Mwari himself had no ancestor. It birthed both good and evil. This ying/yang dividing in itself/outside itself down to our ancestors to us "thing" is Mwari, the supreme being.

Mwari Is the One World In Spirit, And Blood.

He/She is the god of fertility, the sower, the rain-giver. One of his/her praise names is Dziva Guru, Great Pool, for he supplies the people with rain. Mwari is both male and female. (1 and 1/LOVE)As a female, Mwari is merged in the pool with its darkness and mystery; this is the god of below. As a male, Mwari is owner of the skies, the god of light, the father of creation who manifests himself in lightning or the shooting star; this is the god of above. He is an ambivalent god, both immanent and transcendent. He is ever present in his own creation. Our ancestors are Angels, in this subgradient all within/without the One Mwari. The "mediums" and reincarnates are possessed vessels that conduit the ancestors or other random spirits. The Word of the ancestors, the "spirits", the "angels", "Mwari", (Shoko) is spoken through "the Voice". Thus this Voice is hold sacred.

Medium. That is what is needed.

List of all Munhumutapas
·        Nyatsimba Mutota
·        Changamire

·        Mutapa Mukombero
·        Mavura * puppet for Portuguese
The Mutapa Empire was perhaps the first present day Zimbabwean state that fought colonialism and euro-domination and won against the Portuguese invaders in 1570s.

African history (bar Ancient/Classical Egypt) is largely ignored because it barely has any impact or significance towards modern society, as opposed from anything between Ancient Greece, to the British Empire, to WWII.

The biggest impact of African culture in western civilization today is probably it's influence over music.

The Greeks got their knowledge, and philosophy from Egyptians (Kemets before conquest), who also taught them math. http://www.facebook....pdf&h=aAQHR1eBs

^re-read my post, Egypt is literally the second thing I mention.

Ancient/classical Egypt, frankly, can barely be considered african history outside of technical terms. Due to it's links to arab and meditteranean history and detachment to the rest of Afirca outside of the Med coast and Ethiopia.

Right, and they were brown skin not black.

Ethiopia and Mali-Songhai and Zimbabwe-Tanzania can be considered African.

The Egyptians came from south of the Nile, and had constant interaction with the Nubians, and other Africans south of the Nile. They got their knowledge from the south and brought it to the north, and into the outer world. There are more Pyramids in Sudan than there are in Egypt.

The original Egyptians are black, your own notion of white supremacy prohibits you from viewing the facts. Not too long ago whites, again, were claiming Ethiopians are not black.

Interesting thread and good info. Better than 99% of the other useless tripe that fills the Off-Topic section.

While the origins of Egyptian civilizaition may have come from central africa, the core of Ancient and Classical Egyptian history generally ties it to arab and meditteranean cultures.

Hell if we go back to prehistory, africa is where mankind first evolved. People look for history that really has an impact on modern society, giving it more significance and reason to study. That is why Africa in general (except for Egypt) largely goes ignored. Another major African civilization, Carthage, is no more than a footnote in the history of the Roman civilization, because the Romans changed the world, and Carthage didn't.

If you'rerefering to Alexander and Ptolemaic Egypt, and later Roman Egpyt, that's still Egyptian history, like how the 13 colonies are still American history.

Anyway, according to MJ, Eddie Murphy, and Magic Johnson in one of the greatest music vids ever, the Egyptians had smooth tunes.

She was a descendant of Ptolemy, who was the half brother of Alexander the Great, meaning that she was Alexander's grand grand... niece? Small world eh? She was the last in the line of the Ptoelmies, the Greek house that ruled Egypt until Cleopatras suicide and the Roman conquest.

So yeah, she was Greek.

Sorry, my mistake. It seems I'm not lucky in guessing in the stuff I wasn't interested in.

But, wait, she could have actually been like Rihanna or something (mixed race)!

lolwtf? she was nude in the public! (Wikipedia page)

No she most likely would have been meditteranean (Greek) in appearance (but dressed and made in Egyptian fashion). The roman and Greek sculptural portrayals are likely more reliable than the Egyptian ones.

The tone of this thread turned far too hostile. We are done here.
