I don't see a 25% discount anywhere.

It's on the front page.

If you define "proper" as "the way it was before" then no, they're never gonna make another proper Final Fantasy. So remaster/rereleases are really your only option to get that again from Final Fantasy.

ehhh I'd say they just felt more like, actual video games to me, plot and characters aside. For many people, the distinction between FF7 and 13 gameplay wise isn't very significant, it's just some kind of "JRPG crap." I'd argue the opposite though, FF7 featured seamless loading on the battlefield, a completely genuine and fast paced ATB system. Honestly the ATB system generally gave games a lot more challenge and made me much more engaged then the kind of turn based system you see in X. There wasn't necessarily a big marker on a mini-map telling you exactly where to go. There were dozens of silly mini games, side quests, dragons. If I'm not mistaken, there are at least several whole zones/towns in IX that you could just discover randomly. Some of the bosses could seriously wreck you, but then in FFX the final boss gave you auto-res, it was so disappointing.

My experience is that this sort of influences characterization indirectly. The less video gamy the game the more characters tend to be kind of soft and easygoing, which isn't necessarily bad either. It just means you don't get Kefka or Beatrix or General Leo, or really even Sephiroth, as much.

You sure about that? I'm not completely sure, I still think as long as Ito there it's a possibility.

In the alternative I've just been going towards games that have more of a FF feel even if they aren't FF, such as Xenoblade. It felt like an early FF game to me, even though it was for the Wii and didn't have the FF brand.

Yeah. I have a very strong feeling that the word "proper" was the key word in that sentence, but I decided to wait until we get a reply to argue that point (is it bad that I already have the words ready in Notepad? :P).

Edit: Though for what it's worth, LR played terribly on an Xbox 360. SO glad we'll be getting that on PC, and I'm looking forward to a stable 60 FPS.

Which is why I brought up Lightning Returns. It was actually an ironic question.

I see it now. You're my hero.

Ahh but maybe I should use this incredible power to get Vanguard Princess instead.....

Remember, with great power comes great irresponsibility. Or something like that.

I would rather have them release 12 for PC than any of the 13 games.  I might get the first one but I have no interest in the last 2.

I've played all three games in the series, 13 was good for a one time play through, and at 16 bucks you aren't losing much and gaining more than enough content. It is a very narrow game, from start to finish, with very little to keep you coming back other than completionist syndrome.

13-2 was in my opinion the most horrid piece of steaming hot **** in all of Final Fantasy history. Holy Cow was that game bad, it was all the worst Japanimation Tropes, + pokemon + rehashed combat system. Also very similar Chrono Trigger like time travel nonsense as oppose to a singular world you could explore entirely. (then again this is becoming a trend in SE RPG's like Final Fantasy, explore this very big dungeons that we call a world. You might argue that games like Elder Scrolls does the same thing, but that's oversimplifying it.TES games give you a province like Skyrim, or Morrowind, and then cut you loose to do whatever. in FF13 and 13-2, you are given fragmented areas in small corners of a part of a province or whatever you and told to go to object A to continue the story. 13-2 added hurdles in order to even move the story along, like hide go seek or scavenger hunting in order to progress certain parts of the story.)

13-3 or Lightning Returns was a LOT BETTER than the first 2, but to little to late. While Combat was redid in order to give the player a actual feel of controlling the title character, combat could at times feel repetitive. Yes you could at any time change between 3 new outfits which changed what abilities you had, the system itself felt very limited after awhile. It was fun don't get me wrong, but Lightnings growth was tied directly to her equipment which meant if you wanted to be strong you had to use the strongest weapons and or armor. Later on you could gain the ability to level up equipment but the requirements for that became very tedious and i'd be surprised at anyone sticking around for that simply to say they leveled up their favorite dress/outfit. Also it was very easy to get yourself trapped in a losing battle if you worked into a area or battle with a small range of diversity in attacks, i mean if you didn't bring a outfit for every type of occasion be prepared to scratch and claw your way through a fight.

The Story for LR was decent, it didn't try to hard to bewilder you like the first 2 did, it didn't try to hold your hand either like the original 13 did either. No grandiose concepts here, cut and paste simple beginning. "You are gods chosen, give powers like a god in order to save as many people you can and prepare them for the end, and the rebirth in the new world." later on it adds more depth and new twist but in my opinion thats what made it work. Like a small drop into a big pool of water the story starts out simple and small but the rips from the initial start are what cause it to become more interesting and over all a bigger story.

Back to combat, that was the bread and butter of LR, once you mastered the system unlocked a few of the more powerful spells and abilities and some of the better weapons/outfits, the game became a breeze and that made it more fun in away because you got the opinion that Lightning was indeed powerful, and while i still didn't like the fact that her power was directly contributed to her outfit/weapon combinations it still managed to look good and feel great once you completed a boss fight or ended the game, as oppose to in 13 it just felt like one more step toward something else.

Never know. If FFXIII does well Square might think it's a viable money maker on PC.

Apparently the game also has Japanese audio available now what adds a further 23-25GB.

GMG has yet another 20% off voucher that applies to FFXIII (incidentally, it also applies to Shadow of Mordor), leaving the game at $12.80. It's not much but maybe it's enough for anyone who needed a final push.

No, the cutscenes are pre-rendered, unfortunately. So they're HUGE.

Anyway, in case no one has gotten this yet--it's stuck at 720p, which is unfortunate but unsurprising since we're talking about SE, a console company. However, there's already a workaround: there's a tool called GeDoSaTo that uses downsampling to somehow, through dark magic, make it look fantastic. I have no idea how it manages to do so, when theoretically the game/cutscenes only have 1280*720=921,600 pixels, and yet the downsampled result isn't smeared or blurry at all.

But anyway, just search GeDoSaTo, and download the latest version ("Barrage am Ring," whatever that means).

And I found that just trying to run it automatically didn't work well at all, so I searched around and found some settings that work perfectly for me: http://steamcommunit...38693081077373/

Prerendered custscenes??

Gedosato is an awesome real time buffer processing tool. My hunch is that it is probably using a very efficient interpolation algorithm. The source code is provided here.

https://github.com/PeterTh/gedosato

Also, it apparently wraps around the d3d.dll which are responsible for talking to directX in code. My guess is that it rerouts that data in the buffer to it's application then processes it. This allows for different effects and and upscaling to even downscaling to be applied. Profiles just need to be created for the game.

I'm wondering what type of interpolation they used because this works really well.

I'm passable when it comes to PC knowledge, but when you start talking about upscaling and interpolation and downsampling I lose it. One day I'll have to get it figured out. But for now, I'd rather just play the game :P
