Wasn't XIII a horribad port, though? I was considering buying it, but the response to the first game sapped much of my interest.

I think they learned their lesson and that's why the above features were added but it never hurts to wait until after release. ;)

it was bad if you are a PC elitist, it was good if you just want to play a game :P

Graphics and resolution settings are standard and expected features in PC games that have nothing to do with elitism.

Hey gamer,

Sometimes a gaming series is so good, that you, gamer, keep asking for more and more. Square Enix understands this and so does Green Man Gaming.

You know what we're getting at, don't you? The famous Final Fantasy series comes back this week with its latest instalment, Final Fantasy XIII-2.

Ready to defy your fate once more? Prepare your adventure with the 25% off voucher* below - courtesy of Square Enix and Green Man Gaming:

Already bought it.

Edit: FF XIII does have issues (the resolution and the framerate), but for Square Enix, a Japanese company with very little PC experience (just look at their other FF ports), it was really alright. Some good ole GeDoSaTo fixes the first of the two issues, and the second is annoying but can be dealt with.

In fact, the 25% off coupon can be used together with the 10% pre-order discount leaving FFXIII-2 at $13.50.

Be advised though that the coupon expires 4pm UTC on Monday 17th November 2014.

According to Square Portal, the last instalment in the Final Fantasy XIII trilogy, "Lightning Returns," should release sometime during Spring 2015 for the PC. Here's the link:

Correction: Apparently, the information comes from Square Portal which is not part of Square Enix. :(

Updated accordingly.

Lightning is a douchebag in FF VII.

I wanted to like these games.  I so did.  But they are SO bad. run down a hallway cut scene.  Run down another hallway cut scene.  That is all it is...

You're not ready for the magnificence and glory of JRPGs, probably because you're close minded!

At least it was blatantly linear instead of trying to pass off some pseudo branching as "open". Yeah it's bad, but it's VERY apparent.

What's wrong with that? Why is llnear automatically bad?

It simply depends on the game. Some games do well with linearity. I think FF XIII is one of them. And some games do bad with linearity: I think ME3 is one of them.

It was kind of a problem with the engine. The engine that SE used for XIII was not designed for large open spaces. And besides, I want to point out that the next two games, XIII-2 and Lightning Returns, are not linear at all. They're very open from the word go (performance suffers really badly, but they ARE open).

All Final Fantasy titles are 50% off on Steam as part of Square Enix Publisher Weekend. If any title caught your interest, now may be a good time to pick it up:

Lightning returned already...

And she's still shrinkwrapped on my shelf. I barely played the first game with her..let alone the second. I need to get around to it one day.

This is a tweet from Lightning Room which is apparently the official twitter account for FFXIII (who knew, right?):

I don't know Japanese but according to Google translate it goes something like this:

Kitase is P. We have been inquiries the status of the windows version LRFFXIII. It is currently in development, but it has become a situation where you get a little more time.We feel bad. We aim to around autumn, but specific delivery date I think that if you wait a while now. As soon as there is progress, we will report here.

Looks like a few more months then. Hopefully that means they're trying to optimize the PC experience.
