Hello everyone.

I'm thinking of getting the Halo Masterchief collection on Xbox one but I'm not sure which game should I start with. The logical option is to start with Combat Evolved because it is the 1st Halo game but Reach is a prequel, so should I begin with Reach then CE? or?

Thanks :)

Start with Halo: Combat Evolved. Then Halo 2, followed by Halo 3, and finally 4. Halo Reach and ODST can be played for maximum benefit any time after Halo 3, as they aren't necessary to understand the storyline, but add some enjoyable back story to the whole affair. They're all pretty damn good games, in my opnion.

Yeah start with CE otherwise the transition from Reach might make CE feel weird. Reach feels much more faster for example than Halo 1 so you'd have gotten used to that and then you're thrown into Halo 1 which has relatively slower movements for the player. If that doesn't bother you then by all means go for Reach. Reach has a story that was actually written before Halo 1 so it doesn't feel like something that was added years later with inconsistencies. The story really connects properly to Halo and would feel like the first game if not for the more advanced gameplay.

Edit:

Wait a second, if you haven't got a Xbox 360, there's no use asking what to begin with from what I've just read. The Master Chief collection doesn't include Reach, Halo 3 ODST or Halo Wars on account of it being the "Master Chief" collection as in the Halo games that star him. These games will probably release on Xbox One in a different compilation knowing M$.

I do have 360 & Reach legendary edition but I did not play the game yet (Mass Effect steals all the free time I get).

No worries, mate. Feel free to ask any Halo campaign questions that spring to mind. It's one of my favorite series of all time.

While I really want to suggest you start with Halo: Reach as I feel it's a really good stand-alone story and is by far my favorite Halo game, you'll likely want to start with CE and play your way through the MC trilogy first. My suggested order would be: Halo: CE, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo: Reach, and then Halo 4 (you can throw ODST in after 3, but I never bothered to actually finish it)

That being said, if you're a more story driven gamer it might be worth it to start with Reach. As long as you're not bothered by jumping from a more modern game to a game over a decade old and shows it, you might enjoy the insight Reach gives you before starting Halo: CE.
