I need a way to give an update to a quest when a player examines a book (reads the description)

I've tried LSSG and can't find this as an option, looked in lexicon... might have missed it... but didn't see it.

so anyone have a solution?

thanks

I see only one option in vanilla NWN. And thats flagging the item as unidentified and then check for it being identified (mean player examined it and identified it - if the cost of the item will be less then 999 it should be guaranteed to identify without any lore)

Examining an item doesn't generate an event, so you can't tell when the book has been read.

Builders often settle for updating the journal when the book is discovered (e.g. on opening the container).

You could make an item with a unique property, using the "on item activated" event to "read" the book, displaying an alternate description and updating the journal.

Or, you could use a placeable book "on used".

In both cases, the regular description would say "use the object to read it".
