Hawke- Tiana
Inquisitor- Ailith, Parker or Alec Trevelyan
I usually choose names that I like IRL for humans, but try to stick to lore with the other races.

Names that I give to my characters are usually combination on what I think sounds&looks nice and meaning.
In DAO I didn't have much meaning though, my characters there are Raven (well he has black hair ^^
, Wunther (no idea) and Catrine (though it was good name for noble that fit to Ferelden).
DA2 I have Ania, Niall and Kayla. Niall means champion. Kayla and Ania just sound good to me.
In DAI I have most in meaning to my Inquisitor's names. Skye is named after his blue eyes. Michal is named after archangel Michael and I though the name was good for noble. Valpur as Valpuri is finnish name which comes from german saint Walburga, it also means ruler of the fortress so I think it's good for my lady qunari. Lastly, Tamarin is named after zodiac Emperor Tamarin (combination of western and chinese zodiac).

Examples: Loren Lavellan, Ardenne Cousland, Celsi Surana, Galen Aeducan, Ares Adaar or Thelonius Hawke. OK, not that last one.

For my canon, I take my real first name, angrammize it (I don't think annagramize is a word but who cares ?) and then use it.

I generally stick pretty closely to the default names TBH. I think my Dalish Warden was Toren (instead of Theron). My city elf remained Kallian (it's so close to my real name, I couldn't change it!), my Mage remained Alim (I liked the name!), and then my Dwarf Noble remained Sereda.
I've definitely played Dragon Age more than 4 times, but I'm pretty sure I've named every male Hawke either Garrett or Alec, and female Hawke is always Marian or Gillian.
My Dalish Inquisitor will probably be Lorel. That's as far ahead as I've thought.

With Origins I tended to simply use names I like or came up with at the spur of the moment.
Zell Tabris- Male City Elf Rogue (random name)
Fran Cousland- Female Human Noble Warrior (always liked the name Fran and its derivatives)
Tristan Amell- Male Human Mage (always loved the name Tristan)
Tinuwen Mahariel- Female Dalish Rogue (prefer elves with Tolkienesque names)
Keldan Brosca- Male Dwarf Commoner Warrior (used a dwarf name generator)
Ulgar Aeducan- Male Dwarf Noble Warrior (also used dwarf name generator)
Arwen Surana- Female Elf Mage (again, Tolkienish)
Owain Cousland-Male Human Noble Rogue (Used traditional DA naming conventions)
Elsa Amell- Female Human Mage (just like the name and yes Frozen)
Charla Aeducan- Female Dwarf Noble Rogue (saw the name come up on the news, liked it and decided to use it)
Derrick Cousland- Male HN Warrior (named after a friend)
Annika Brosca- Female DC Warrior (don't remember the inspiration with this one)
DA Awakening:
Ivonthe Caron- Male Human Warrior (supposedly its an ancient French name)
Jolie Caron- Female Human Rogue (originally Celine but decides on Jolie)
Alviss Kader- Male Dwarf Warrior (don't remember, probably a generator)
DA2: Mainly used English, Celtic, Welsh and Cornish names with exceptions
Male Hawkes:
Caleb- Diplomatic Warrior
Dante- Sarcastic Rogue
William- Aggressive Rogue
Connor- Sarcastic Mage
Kieran- Aggressive Mage
Stephen- Aggressive Warrior
Female Hawkes-
Catherine- Diplomatic Warrior
Kaelynn- Aggressive Warrior
Damelza- Sarcastic Mage
Siobhan- Diplomatic Rogue
Inquisitors-
Female Trevelyan- Morwenna, Rosenwyn
Male Trevelyan- Drystan, Ethan
Female Cadash- Nika, Zyta
Female Adaar- Kata, Katara
Male Adaar- Merrad, Talan
Male Lavellan- Aeron, Gareth
Male Cadash- Faren, Duran
Don't remember the Female elven names off the top of my head but again contuining with Tolkien names, one which means Moonlight Maiden and the other White Maiden (Fanawen I think)

lets see....
for rogues i usually base the names off tricky characters or gods.... like Loki for example... or the default garret for hawke cause the character from the thief series is garret and hes a rogue
for warriors its usually something heavy sounding or a name of a character from another game.... Viktor for example
for mages.... well i usually have them take biblical names or god names.... for some reason i gave the name ignis to my warden.... dont really remember how i got that one....
if i cant think of a name for a character, i usually resort to biblical names or characters from other games.... example Yurius from FE4 (though some translate it to Julius.... i refuse to have the name associated with a juice store)

I always have a plethora of names that I use in games and I pick whatever sounds good. I also tend to mix existing names up to make new ideas or steal them from name generators.

My real name's Tom. Well, my first name at least. For my canon Warden, I took that name and turned it into something I'd see an Aeducan give his child: Tomm. Yes, just added an extra 'm'. So my Warden's name was
Tomm Aeducan
For my canon Hawke, I chose a Latin word. Now this word means 'goddess', but that is by no means me trying to give her a superiority complex. Not at all. I just picked this word because I liked the name. My Hawke's name was
Dea Hawke
For my canon Inquisitor, I've decided to delve deep into the namemaking process and come up with something lore-friendly, yet with also some meaning behind it. Now, my Inquisitor will be Dalish; a mage, in fact. But he doesn't like magic all that much, simply because of the dangers it poses. Therefore, his name reflects the notion that he regards mages as something to protect the innocent against, thus meaning that he himself is also a danger. The name I chose means 'to be feared'. My Inquisitor's name is going to be
Dar'harel Lavellan

In all games I play I usually use names from mythologies (slavic for humans and elves; norse for dwarves and elves).
Sometimes I mix together two names: one from my native language and one from my head ... or mythologies (Buzumira Trevelyan).
I once tried to create something original from the already-known-Dalish-words. That's how my Tulahn Mahariel was born.

... I think I may have went way too much into detail with this... ![]()
As you can see, I stuck with the default names for my Wardens and gave all my Hawkes human names. Brynn Hawke's name was inspired by Brynn from ME3.
As for my Inquisitors, I decided that this time I was going have names planned out for them ahead of time and I kind of wanted them to be lore-friendly. For Lin'Mi, I wanted something that would fit with her being a rogue as well as a Dalish hunter, and when I combined the elvish words for blood and blade I knew I had the name I wanted for her.
For Tal-Shok, I wanted something that would fit his personality. I had him envisioned as being stoic, direct, pragmatic... basically like Sten. I looked through the Qunlat page on the DA wiki and found the words for true and struggle, soon combining them to name Tal-Shok. While Tal-Shok could also mean 'true war', 'true struggle' seems to fit better with his personality.
Yep, this post was way bigger than I originally planned it to be... ![]()

I generally just go by what I like, its random - sometimes I got the name from someone, sometimes I just think it up.
My Warden was: Alexander Cousland, This name I actually got from numerous people though initially probably from Pope Alexander VI (Rodrigo Borgia) who I'd recently been studying and despite all the controversy surronding him I actually like. I wanted A name that would fit Fereldens "Great Britain countries mash up - England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales etc" since it seems to be a combination of those countries. Alexander was a name used by 3 Scottish Kings so that also inspired it. Then of course theres Alexander the great.
My Hawke was: Lucius Hawke. I was going for a Tevinter vibe with my Hawke, him being a powerful mage whose line of thought was very pro-mage. Tbh I actually just decided on this one from the name of the kid in the movie Gladiator.
My Inquisitor will be: Elessar Adaar, Elessar being the name Aragorn from LOTR took upon becoming King. This one I pretty much just decided on because I like it. and it accompanied by the Adaar has a nice ring to it =P

I have a few that I use a lot (Beryl for female elves, Lucille/Lucia/Lucilla for female humans, Linus for human dudes). My canon Warden is Brandelyn Cousland, but she goes by Brand. She was named after King Brandel, for some ludicrous reason. My canon Hawke is Wilhelmina, or Wil. I chose it because it fit her personality ("protector"), was lore-friendly (there's a Wilhelm!), and it offered me a ton of nickname variants. If my canon Inquisitor is human, she will be named Steren (which means "star" in Cornish, selected because Trevelyan is a Cornish name) and if she's an elf, Seth. Or Spike. One is a nickname, the other is not.
Other names I've chosen for my Inquisitor range from "I like the way it sounds" (Lor Adaar, Sorrel Lavellan), lore-friendly (Falon Lavellan, Kost Adaar, Malin Cadash), or lore friendly but not so much culturally fitting (Alma Lavellan, Locke Trevelyan).

My "Canon" first names as follows.
DAO: Micheal Cousland
DA2: Martin Hawke
DAI: Luther Trevelyan
For DA4, your next player should be named "King", and DA5, it's gotta be "Junior". It won't explain away your Warden, though.
As for mine...
DAO: Kit Surana
DA2: Garrett Hawke
DAI: Sorrell Lavellan
No particular pattern. They've all got red hair and are mages, though.

They're usually taken or inspired from some other character. So far, I've had Wardens and Hawkes called Mjrn, Alyssa, Jansen, Raven, Seth, Fang, Morinth, Myuria, Brienne, Vin and Vivenna.

I almost hate to say it, but I was pleased with the default names for both my primary Warden and Hawke. I'm just not good at coming up with cool names, and I have a tendency to use the same ones over and over when I do find one I like.

Leon Lavellan (might change this to something more elf-ish though)
