I'm kinda boring my Warden still has the name she came with Solona, but I do head canon that Jowan always called her Sol'a, so Alistair and co did to. As for Hawke I tried to think of a reason for Hawke to go by her last name so I named her Moira after Marric's mother. She didn't like the idea of being named for a queen that was betrayed by her own so hence the going by her family name. As for my Inquisitor I have finally settled on a name Arian which I'm told means 'silver' in Welsh (if anybody can verify whether this is true of not I would appreciate it) I plan on making her with very blonde hair almost white if I can since I realized the other day that all my DA characters are brunette or redheads.
Naming your Inquisitor (and previous protags).

As much as I agonize about CC, I care little for names. That, and keeping it default assures its lore-friendly.

I usually think of a name off the top of my head. When my creative juices run dry I pull out the Latin/English - English/Latin dictionary and look for something interesting.

I always roleplay characters of an Ancient Tevinter bloodline despite their geographical location in game. So my naming conventions align with a Roman style matching Tevinter.
Dragon Age Origins: Titus Amellus
Dragon Age II: Darinius Hawcianus
Dragon Age Inquisition: Thalsian Trevelyanus

Hey guys.
So, I wanted to try and get an idea of how everyone goes about naming their characters. Do you just use names that you like? Do you try and match culture/nationalities? Do you give them a theme?
Eg: For DA:O, I gave my humans medieval english names, and for elves/dwarves I used a name creater (possibly based off of D&D or something like that?). Whereas in DA:2, since we were stuck as human, I decided to theme my names after Gods/Goddesses.
With DA:I, i'm wanting to go back to the culture/nationality style (i.e: naming my elf something elven). Are there any 'guides' for this, incorporating DA lore? So, like, a list of elven or qunari words/names and their meanings?
Hey
Usually I take my characters names from mythology and from Tolkien. So in Dragon Age serie my Dalish Elf name was Arien ( she was spirit of fire and guard of the last fruit of Golden Tree in Tolkien world), my elven mage's name was Yavanna ( after one of Valar Queen). My Cousland girl(warrior class) was Nemain ( goddes of war. Some sources mark Nemain as another name of Morrigan), while my archer's name was Diana. For DA:I my elven female mage name will be Celebrian ( daughter of Galadriel & Celeborn), and my elven roque name will be Skadi-norse hunting goddess.

Funny, I always name my dog Titus.
In reference to the gory Shakespeare play, because of all the silly blood splatters.
I've started using names that are references. Sophie Hawke, for Howl's Moving Castle. Vincent Hawke, because he's a redhead like Van Gogh. My female and male Shepards are named Mal and Malcolm for Firefly. For non-human PCs though, I usually find a name that sounds appropriate to the culture.
