Hmm... what if that's some kind of evolutionary response? Humans became physically attracted to elven women, because it broadens the spectrum of sexual partners, while giving viable children to humans, but not to elves?

That way humans can spread their genes at the cost of elves. 

Dalish isolationism is in contrast the evolutionary response in that regard, a way of preserving elven genes (genes of those who mixed with humans went extinct)?

Melee attacks are much more common than ranged and magic so don't compare it to elves and dwarves.

I would have preferred a percent bonus to extra health, but I'm greedy lol.

10%-25% melee resistance is an excellent improvement to the qunari racial bonus.

Am I alone in wishing elves had a different bonus as well?

I'd prefer a bonus to ranged accuracy or damage over resistance, but that wouldn't be much good to an elven warrior, mage, or melee rogue.

What?

1. Magic can easily on shot and disable a character in da.

2.In da2 do you not see the horde of archers in the game, added the bonus includes magical attacks as well.

I don't think he's talking about the melee defense in general being broken and hoping it's a typo... Just the 25% part.

 

Wait, I'm even more confused now. If it's the 25% that's the issue, in what bizarro universe is 10% melee defence better than 25% melee defence?

Personally, I'd have gone with an overall damage resistance bonus, but melee defense is still better than a flat 50 health.  It will definitely be useful to qunari mages if they happen to get targeted by a melee rogue or warrior...

I'm not a number cruncher, so I have no idea, but how is 25% Ranged (Elf), Magic (Dwarf) and Melee (Qunari) Defence unequal in terms of balance?

I a melee hit is 100, 25% that is taken off so the hit become 75 instead of 100. Same concept with magic defense.  That a BIG help in the long run meaning a pc can survive some big hits.

Health is nothing with out defense and 50 health is too short term.

oh yeah I agree....who really cares for early game anyways?  I never said it, but yeah I thought that was a VERY weak bonus. It made sense, but I thought it could be better.  10% melee defense is good IMO.

Human: 1 extra point in str, dex, cun,and mag.

Elves: 2 extra point in wisdom and magic.

So how is that any less of a pro-con than any of the other defences?

 

For instance, wouldn't a Qunari Mage verus a Dwarf Warrior be effectively even since they both reasonably offset each other's bonuses?

It's not about a comparison in that regard, it's about situation serviceability and flexibility. People and being attacking you with melee is more common then being attacked with magic. Melee deference has more chances to be used then magic deference. But magic deference allows the chance for the pc to survive some big hits and cc magic causes. It's like choice with being good at handling mobs vs being good at handling bosses.
