So it was recently shown that there would be a face-scanning system in NBA 2k15. Even showed a tech demo

Watching this, I thought wouldn't this be an interesting/amusing feature to have in a future DA game? Or RPGs in general? Sometimes I try to recreate myself for my character but can never achieve it. This would solve a lot of problems.  :wizard:

...okay, now I gotta wonder, what would happen if you face-scanned your dog or something?

This is an important question. :S

I don't play self inserts so meh. I did recreate myself in Sims 4 but playing with myself (ba-dum-tis) just felt extremely weird.

Also seems like it would only have any real use for human characters and maybe elves if it was ever something in DA.

...and characters of the same gender as you. I imagine that could get awkward if you tried to mix that up.

Ohhhh my 2 loves finally found each other, DA and NBA2K. I've modded the NBA 2K series a little bit over the last couple of years, and I'm really sad that this feature won't be available on the pc version of the game.

There are much higher levels of self-insertion / self-fantasy in sporting games.

For those this makes perfect sense and looks fun.

For DA and role-play games in general I just don't see the need to develop this as a priority,

even though some people might like it, there are many more important things for the devs to be focusing on in a fantasy action RPG.

If in time, whether in Frostbite 3 or beyond, the code for such a feature would appear in any EA sporting title

then it may be more likely that it will appear in a CC, but only because it already existed within EA, not because there was

a development imperative to design it from scratch.

Oh, and if I were fully self-inserting, I'd need to scan more than my face.

I don't want to see myself either, so no thanks.  Also, there would be quite a bit of whacked out characters with that type of feature....rather not fathom the possibilities.

I have no intention of ever purchasing a Kinect/Move/Webcam so I can scan my face into an RPG.

That said, I think it sounds like an intriguing idea.  I don't really see much reason for me to be against others possibly having the ability to facemap themselves into future Dragon Age games, if they wanted.

WOW!! thanks for the heads up Andraste.

You have no idea the hours i used to put into Oblivion using Facegen just to get myself in the game. Skyrim made that near impossible.

I wish it was standard on all next gen games.

If this was available for DAI i would instantly buy it (for the PC)

Guess i am in the minority but i want my face to be in all the games that i really care about and want to be the protagonist in.

That vid is really flippin' cool! thanks again

If they use themselves.... what?

Someone possibly putting their own face on the protagonist harms you in some way?  I'm more offended by let's plays of Mass Effect or DA2 that don't use the default face of Shepard/Hawke.  Hell, I'm more offended that Let's plays exist than the idea that someone could put their own face on the protagonist of DA4(or the protagonist of any game).

Besides, that the tech exists probably means there will probably be a mod inside a year allowing people who play DAI on the PC to do the same thing.

Uh, you didn't get my drift apparently.....

dog, cat, mouse, other critter.....and that is the clean mentioning PG style....  get the idea.  I know some will go a lot further to see what they can do.  a turd....to get dirty in minor way.

I don't think you watched the video.  If the scan is as detailed as they claim, then it would be rather simple for the program to automatically reject scans that come in as "clearly not human".  Sure you might get someone with a pet ape who manages to get past the thing(Edit: Kotaku Article in a year: "Koko is on Twitch playing Madden 16, proving that Apes are better than humans at football"), but I highly doubt you're going to be able to get someone to scan their cat/dog/mouse/ball of twine and use it as their face...  At least, not if the developers didn't want you to.

I'm not interested in that option. It's far more immersive and fun to create an original character. This is called : roleplaying ! :)

It's no longer roleplaying because my character looks like me?
