I would prefer the second option. Making you think about what to do, rather than going "meh I feel like sending cullen right now"

We know sending Leliana to Redcliffe was not a good move.

That is from one playthrough and we don't know how they got to those choices. It could be possible that you could outfit them out enough that this might not end up that way. Perhaps they gain levels from being sent out?

I do wish people stopped quoting me on that. I know that it is one playthrough. So yeah things would be different.

I hope we can keep sending Leliana to missions we shouldn't, and she keeps failing and getting captured, so we keep having to go rescue her like Redcliffe.

By the 7th or 8th time it'll be like "DAMMIT LELIANA."

Really? I would say that after the third time...

I hope so OP, it would make that dynamic a lot more interesting.

I have been using an old trick to find out quickly what they all offer. You likely know what i mean but i won't say it aloud. Bioware is likely too busy reading forum posts rather then fixing the multiplayer  bugs. -.- Anyway every choice may seem to be similar but many have true affect in what you get or the fate of those involved. In this case if you choose Lady Mon she sends a agent and a mage to clear his mind and convince him of the threat. This results in both the staff and reputation because he realizes you directly helped him. This may be of benefit to you in future relations with him. The target is thrown into the Kings dungeons which may be a pain later if he controls more allies in his ranks.

Send Lilianas agent and he/she eliminates the target and all suspected co conspirators. This angers the king knowing he fell for such a plot (and likely hates your underhanded tactic and results in no rep gain) Cullens option ambushes him outside of town on his way to report to the Tevinter Imperium. This option gives you the satisfying "eliminates all targets" answer and the target himself is captured and placed in your dungeon. Most options are the same but some choices have true affects on what item you get, whether you get one at all, and may give you assets in Skyhold or in the field.

Game developers have been claiming that early game choices affect later content for thirty years. I've yet to see it implemented to any noticeable degree by the programmers. Maybeso this is the time it works as advertised. I'm not holding my breath.

But what Ophir was suggesting is that sometimes there might be no way to prevent something bad from happening and the choice might be deciding which option is the lesser evil. This would be out of character for Bioware - they've almost always had ways to complete their games fairly painlessly - but I very much hope they've decided to insert a few more Virmires into DA:I.

In any case it's unclear as to whether sending Leliana resulted in bad consequences because that always happens if you send her or if it was the result of a low secrets rating (a possibility suggested by Icy Magebane) or some other decisions made along the way.

There's always a way to make things go right. Even Virmire.

Actually Virmire was really stupid. There was no reason why I ever took more than my own team (me, Wrex and Liara) since we single handedly cleared out all the mooks anyways. And the only thing we needed to do was disable the AA guns. The Normandy could have easily dropped the improvised bomb on top of Virmire from orbit and used either a pressure sensor, chronograph, or remote trigger as the means to detonote the bomb. There was absolutely no reason why anyone had to die. That was the kind of false dichotomy that makes me want to punch a hole in my monitor because I know if I Bioware didn't rob me of my agency then no one would have died. Bioware used cheating of the highest order in order to kill someone off.

But it was only Kaidan who I wanted dead anyways, so really everything worked out ok.

Yes, early game choices like whether or not to shove a gun in Conrad's face...

Why do you need a bright neon sign? I agree that the game should at least give a hint at what advisor would be the right choice, but if it's obvious then there's no accomplishment to choosing the right one.

Example of what we have seen in Redcliff:

You have to deal with some crazy bloodmages

1. Leliana wants to go in and assassinate the big bad bloodmage

2. Josephine wants to negotiate with the bloogmages

3. Cullen wants to go in with a team of templars to deal with the bloodmages.

You can see that Josephine's option would not be very smart and obviously the worst choice. Leliana is not a bad idea, but the fact that we are dealing with mages and Cullen want to use templars suggests that he would be the best choice.

I sent Cullen in and still ended up with Leliana being tortured lol.

The Devs keep saying its the most dynamic RPG you will play.

Ha.  Sorry to necro an old thread, but it's kind of hilarious how high our expectations were versus what we received.  I suppose that's always the case, though.  It's why people hate fans of their work as much as they love them.

It's a great game, though.  I just happened to stumble on this while searching "war table Serpent of Nevarra" on my second playthrough.  The whole "sending Leliana on the Redcliffe mission or not" question we all had prior to release ended up being pretty moot.  And it was a stupid time travel plot, too.
