I was playing this section today and somehow the YMIR seemed to die by itself.  I only used Singularity against it once and shot it a couple times.  I was dealing with mooks and it seemingly exploded for no reason.  There was an Engineer behind it, does it take friendly fire from enemy weapons and powers maybe?

It has been a while since I played this DLC, I can't remember if I had the mech blow up by itself before.  I vaguely remember something about this though (common bug?)

Most everyone else can be hit by friendly fire. Rocket troopers often kill themselves shooting me when I am too close to them (especially as a Sentinel) or when shooting my drone that is right next to them. OTOH, even friendly fire should not be enough to take down a YMIR. You didn't happen to use a Stasis on it per chance?

No I did not use Stasis on it even one time, and I hadn't even fired on it myself for at least 10 seconds before it blew up.

Ok took another look at the video.  It goes up the small steps on the side, then it seems to fall into the floor, and that is when it blows up.  Odd.

Just for fun, here was the section I was talking about:

Also the YMIR in my cheese run blows up too fast as well, although I definitely used Stasis on it

Yeah, Arrival DLC can be a bit buggy at times.

Maybe Kenson told the mech about her brilliant plan to wait to call in reinforcements until after Shepard gets off the floor, then leave Shepard unconscious for two days in the one place in the entire galaxy where it would be possible to screw up the Reaper invasion, and it exploded in protest.

Maybe a modified version of Leviathan would have been a better bridging DLC. :)

You could have even broke Dr Bryson out of Batarian prison.

It's probably a bug regarding distance between itself and the floor, probably because of the way those steps were designed. I've had YMIR mechs blow up after falling a certain distance when the Pull effect wears off. The most common place for this is usually on the last part of the combat portion of Garrus' loyalty quest.

This effect needs a formal acronym. How about SMC ("Spontaneous Mech Combustion")?

Something similar just happened to me. I was doing an Insanity Sentinel run and I was in the lower left corner of the room when the Ymir mech was deployed. I had managed to whittle it's shields down by the time it got to those little set of stairs, then I hit it's armour with a Warp which staggered it a little, suddenly it seemed to be standing a couple of feet in the air on the railing thing. I hit it with another Warp and it seemed to sink back down then exploded.  I was surprised, but also very pleased.

Easiest 'survive all waves on Object Rho" I've ever done.

I m at this section with my adept and must recognize, i have failed 10-20 times. I wld have liked the YMIR to combust on his own, lol. He closes on me very fast and in front of the mooks so i cant target them well. I think i should move place when i arrive at wave 5. i miss my stasis, or even my heavy ED, as the area ED leaves mooks with a sliver of shield. I guess i ll watch a vid to see how to handle wave 5

Yeah, the way I did this part the first few times I played Arrival was to use the one L-shaped desk, since the mech is too dumb to go around the side, so you can sit in cover as it fires, then pop out in between its animations.

But the way I prefer it now is on the opposite side that has mainly two sets of columns.  If the mech gets into the middle, and you stay at the other edge with columns in between, it usually can't hit you, and if you just move left, and then right, the mech tries to mirror you and never makes it around either side.

Once i knew i could stay in the L shaped section ... it was far easier. But it looks like he will turn around, and that caused few death on my side :).

With a highly mobile class (Sentinel, Vanguard, Infiltrator, Soldier) I prefer the L-shaped desks, as I think it's easier to predict and counter the movement of the mooks, the YMIR has a very long hike to reach you (and you can always switch from one L desk to the other if you need to).  With less mobile classes (Adept, Engineer), the pillar forest may be easier since it's harder for the enemy to pin you down there.

One thing that helped me early on with this level is to recognize that the enemies spawn in waves with a trigger tied to the number of remaining enemies.  Thus it can sometimes help to strip off all protection and uniformly weaken the enemies before killing any so you have some control of when more enemies will arrive (particularly the pyros, which it helps to know when they are coming so you can prioritize killing them before they can break your cover).
